Part 1: Admit Card Questions

What is the difference between the city intimation slip and the admit card?

The city intimation slip tells you which city your exam centre is in, so that you can plan travel and accommodation. It is released earlier. The admit card is the document you need for entry and carries your exact centre, date, shift and reporting time. Do not confuse the two. The slip is not an admission document.

How do I download the admit card?

1. Go to the official UGC NET website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

2. Open the admit card link once NTA activates it.

3. Log in with your application number and the other credentials you used when applying, such as your date of birth or password.

4. Check the details and download the file.

5. Take a clear printout, and also keep a copy on your phone.

What should I verify on the admit card?

Check each of these as soon as you download it, so you have time to report any problem:

• Your name, date of birth and category, matching your documents.

• Your photograph and signature, which should be clear and match you.

• Your subject for Paper 2.

• The exam date, shift and reporting time.

• The full address of the exam centre.

• The instructions printed on the card.

What should I carry to the exam centre?

Carry your printed admit card and a valid photo identity document as specified in the information bulletin and on the admit card. Read the instruction list on the card carefully, because items such as mobile phones and other electronic devices are not permitted inside the examination hall. Reach the centre well before the reporting time, since entry is closed once the exam is about to begin.

What if there is a mistake on my admit card?

If the mistake is small, such as a printing issue, contact NTA through the helpline or grievance contacts listed on the official website and in the bulletin, with your application number. For errors in your application details, corrections are only possible during the correction window announced in the notification, so use that window carefully. Do not wait until the last moment.

What if I cannot download my admit card?

First check that you are using the correct application number and credentials. Try a different browser or device, and avoid peak hours when the portal is busy. If the problem continues, contact the NTA helpline and keep a record of your attempts.

What if I lose my admit card?

Download it again from the official portal using your login details, and take another printout. You do not need to wait for a duplicate to be posted.

Part 2: Answer Key Questions

When is the answer key released?

After the exam, NTA releases a provisional answer key along with candidates’ recorded responses. This is followed by a window in which you can challenge answers. After reviewing the challenges, NTA publishes the final answer key, which is used to prepare the result.

How do I challenge an answer?

During the challenge window, log in to the portal, select the question you want to challenge and submit your justification with any supporting document. A processing fee per challenged question is charged as stated in the public notice, and it is not refunded. Only challenge answers when you have a clear, documented reason.

How can I estimate my score from the answer key?

Compare your recorded responses with the provisional key, count your correct answers and multiply by 2. There is no negative marking, so your total is correct answers times 2, out of 300. Our UGC NET marks calculator does the arithmetic for you. For the logic behind the rule, see our explanation of negative marking in UGC NET.

Part 3: Result Questions

When will the result be declared?

NTA declares the result after the final answer key is published. The date is announced through an official notice. Past cycles have taken a few weeks after the exam, but the timing varies, so rely on the notice for your cycle.

How do I check my result and scorecard?

1. Open ugcnet.nta.nic.in and click the result link.

2. Log in with your application number and date of birth, or the credentials the portal asks for.

3. View and download the scorecard.

4. Save several copies.

What does the scorecard show?

The scorecard shows your marks in the exam and your result status. Qualified candidates are placed in one of three categories: JRF and Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor and PhD admission, or PhD admission only. If you qualified for the JRF, the JRF award letter or e-certificate is issued separately from the scorecard, so look for it after the result. Subject-wise and category-wise cut-offs are published separately, and you can compare your marks against past years on our UGC NET cut-off page.

What does each result category mean?

• JRF and Assistant Professor: you are eligible for the fellowship, for Assistant Professor posts and for PhD admission.

• Assistant Professor and PhD admission: you are eligible for both, without the fellowship.

• PhD admission only: you are eligible for PhD admission, but not for Assistant Professor posts or the JRF.

Our article on what to do after clearing UGC NET explains the validity of each and your next steps.

What if I think my result has an error?

Contact NTA through the official grievance channels, quoting your application number, roll number and a clear description of the discrepancy, with supporting documents. Raise the issue promptly, because grievance windows are limited.

What if I did not qualify?

There is no limit on the number of attempts, and the exam is held twice a year. Use your recorded responses and your performance by unit to identify weak areas, and plan your next attempt. Our article on how many attempts are allowed in UGC NET covers the one limit that does apply, which is the age limit for the JRF.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Waiting until the last day to download the admit card.

• Not checking the photograph and signature on the admit card.

• Forgetting the identity document.

• Challenging answers without evidence.

• Treating the city intimation slip as an admit card.

• Relying on unofficial websites for dates, instead of the NTA portal.
