Why in the News?
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) expanded its nationwide investor awareness initiative, Project Jagrook, during World Investor Week 2026.
On 5 October 2026, SEBI introduced the “Samajh Se Investing Simple” campaign at Panjab University, Chandigarh, to promote financial literacy and protect investors from misleading investment advice and financial fraud.

What Is Project Jagrook?
Project Jagrook is a nationwide investor education and financial awareness initiative launched by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in April 2026.
The project aims to improve financial literacy, encourage responsible investment decisions and protect retail investors from fraudulent activities.
It uses a multilingual and multi-channel approach to reach people across India, including rural communities, students and first-time investors.
The initiative is led by SEBI in collaboration with stock exchanges, depositories and other securities market institutions.
Main Objectives of Project Jagrook
Project Jagrook aims to help investors understand financial products before investing, recognise market risks and avoid fraudulent investment schemes.
The campaign encourages investors to choose regulated investment products, verify information from reliable sources and avoid promises of unrealistic returns.
It also promotes long-term financial planning and responsible participation in securities markets.
Samajh Se Investing Simple Campaign
The Samajh Se Investing Simple campaign was introduced under Project Jagrook on 5 October 2026.
It focuses on four major investor awareness messages:
Understand Before You Invest.
Choose Regulated Investment Products.
Start Early, Stay Invested.
Beware of Investment Frauds.
Under SEBI's directions, stock brokers are required to display investor awareness messages on their websites and trading applications according to the prescribed schedule.
The initiative helps ensure that important financial safety messages reach investors directly through the platforms they use for trading.
Institutions Involved
Project Jagrook is implemented through cooperation between SEBI and major securities market institutions, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) and National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM).
Their participation helps expand investor education through digital platforms, educational institutions and awareness programmes.
