NEET Notes Last Minute 2026
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)
Description
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the national-level entrance examination conducted in India for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, BUMS, and other allied medical programs. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency under the guidance of the Ministry of Education.
NEET was introduced to establish a uniform and transparent admission process for medical education across the country. The examination is based on the syllabus prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training and primarily covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology) from Classes XI and XII.
The test is conducted in pen-and-paper mode and consists of multiple-choice questions. Admission to government and private medical colleges is largely based on NEET scores, making it one of the most competitive examinations in India. Candidates must meet the prescribed eligibility criteria regarding age, educational qualifications, and minimum marks in qualifying examinations.
NEET plays a crucial role in ensuring merit-based selection of students for medical education. By providing a single entrance examination for medical admissions nationwide, it helps maintain uniform standards and promotes transparency, fairness, and accessibility in the admission process.
