AIIMS Nursing Entrance Exam guide: syllabus, exam pattern, eligibility, and mock tests for B.Sc. Nursing (Hons.) admission at AIIMS institutes.

AIIMS Nursing Entrance Exam Study Material

The AIIMS Nursing Entrance Exam is the set of admission tests that AIIMS New Delhi conducts every year for nursing seats at AIIMS New Delhi and the other participating AIIMS. In the 2026 cycle it covered four tests: B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic), M.Sc. Nursing and, in the same prospectus as the B.Sc. nursing test, the B.Sc. Allied and Health Care (paramedical) courses. All of them are computer-based, all use negative marking, and all lead to seats allotted on merit and choice.

This page is the hub for the whole group. It tells you which test fits your qualification, gives the 2026 dates, seats, fees and pattern from the official prospectus, and points you to the detailed pages. If you are a qualified nurse looking for a job at AIIMS, you need the recruitment test, not this one: see the AIIMS Nursing Officer (NORCET) guide.

One common confusion is worth clearing early. NORCET, the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test, also runs on the AIIMS exam portal, but it fills jobs. The tests on this page fill student seats. Preparing for one does not register you for the other.

2026 Notification Overview

  • One prospectus for undergraduate courses: AIIMS released the B.Sc. courses prospectus on 25 March 2026, covering B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) and the B.Sc. Allied and Health Care courses.

  • Separate prospectus for M.Sc. Nursing: M.Sc. Nursing sits in the M.Sc. courses prospectus, released the same day, alongside M.Sc. and M. Biotechnology.

  • Deadline extended: Notice No. 56/2026 moved the application closing date from 24 April 2026 to 10 May 2026 (5 PM) for all these courses.

  • Two shifts for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing: Notice No. 72/2026 dated 22 May 2026 split the 27 June 2026 exam into morning and evening shifts because of the large number of applications, with scores normalised under AIIMS's published procedure.

  • No NEET-UG link: the 2026 prospectus fills B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing seats entirely on the AIIMS entrance test. NEET-UG scores play no part.

The other courses are much smaller. B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) is offered only at AIIMS New Delhi. M.Sc. Nursing runs in up to ten specialities at AIIMS New Delhi (34 seats in 2026, plus 12 in-service seats) and at 14 other AIIMS. The Allied and Health Care courses had 725 seats across many AIIMS. Seat positions can be amended before results, so confirm them in the latest notice.

Eligibility Summary

B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing

You must be an Indian citizen and a woman, at least 17 years old on 31 December of the admission year. For 2026, anyone born on or after 2 January 2010 was not eligible. You need Class 12 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 55% aggregate in those four subjects (50% for SC and ST). Class 12 candidates whose results come before the date in the prospectus (30 June in 2026) can apply.

Post-Basic and M.Sc. Nursing

Post-Basic needs Class 12 (or 10+1 passed on or before 1986), a GNM diploma from an institution recognised by the Indian Nursing Council, and registration as a nurse and midwife. M.Sc. Nursing needs a B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, four-year B.Sc. Nursing or Post-Basic/Post-Certificate B.Sc. Nursing degree with 60% (55% for SC and ST), plus nurse and midwife registration.

What this means for you: every wrong answer costs a third of a mark, so blind guessing does not pay. Biology carries the most weight in tie-breaking for the B.Sc. (Hons.) test, and the 10 GK questions are cheap marks that many candidates ignore. Older pages may still show a single shift for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, so follow the latest notice.

Syllabus Summary

AIIMS does not prescribe a syllabus for any of these tests. For the undergraduate tests, the prospectus sets the general standard at Class 12 (10+2). The postgraduate and Post-Basic papers draw on the nursing subjects you studied for your diploma or degree.

Post-Basic

M.Sc. Nursing

B.Sc. Nursing subjects, research and statistics, management and education

Selection and Seat Allocation

  1. Entrance test: merit lists are prepared by category from the test score. For B.Sc. courses, you must also reach the minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR and EWS, 45% for OBC and 40% for SC and ST.

  2. Choice filling: qualified candidates list AIIMS (and speciality, where relevant) in order of preference. In 2026 the round 1 choices also governed round 2.

  3. Rounds 1 and 2: seats are allotted strictly from the combined merit list. You cannot refuse an allotted seat; you either accept and exit or accept and stay in for an upgrade.

  4. Open round: remaining seats go to fresh registrants who pay a security deposit (Rs. 25,000 for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing in 2026).

  5. Joining: a medical examination by the institute's board, document verification and fee payment. Hostel residence is compulsory for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing students.

Post-Basic adds a Stage II personal assessment: three candidates per seat are called, and the 30 assessment marks are added to the written score.

Fees and What Comes After

AIIMS New Delhi's fee schedule is nominal. The 2026 prospectus lists a registration fee of Rs. 25 and tuition of Rs. 600 for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, with small charges for pot money, hostel rent, caution money and a refundable Rs. 1,000 hostel security. Mess for nursing students in the hostel was Rs. 700 a month. Other AIIMS may set different amounts, so check the institute you are allotted.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing takes four years and Post-Basic and M.Sc. Nursing take two years each. After registration as a nurse, graduates often target government nursing jobs. Nursing Officer posts at AIIMS are filled through NORCET, a separate recruitment test with its own eligibility, so plan for it as a next step rather than a parallel one. Students who leave midway face penalties set out in the prospectus and later notices.

How to Prepare

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing aspirants: build on NCERT Class 11 and 12 Biology, Chemistry and Physics, then add a daily 20-minute GK habit. Practise elimination, because the -1/3 penalty punishes careless attempts.

  • Post-Basic aspirants: revise your GNM textbooks subject by subject, with extra time on Medical Surgical Nursing. Prepare short answers on your clinical experience for the personal assessment.

  • M.Sc. Nursing aspirants: revise the full B.Sc. Nursing curriculum and add nursing research, statistics and management, which many candidates neglect.

  • Everyone: take timed tests in the exact question count and duration of your paper, and keep an error log
