AILET Cut-Off: Closing Ranks, Marks and Trends

AILET does not work like a pass-marks exam with one published qualifying cut-off. NLU Delhi ranks candidates by their AILET score and allots seats through counselling, so the useful AILET cut-off is the closing rank in each category and counselling round. The closing rank is the rank of the last candidate who received a seat in that category and round, so a smaller number is a tougher benchmark.

This page shows the BA LLB closing ranks reported for the 2026 counselling, an indicative marks-to-rank guide, and how to set a target for AILET 2027, which is on 13 December 2026. The rank figures below were reported from allotment lists by third-party sources and could not be checked line by line against NLU Delhi notices, so verify them on the official NLU Delhi admissions website. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, seats and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

The table shows the closing All India Rank (AIR) reported for each category in the first two counselling rounds of the 2026 admission cycle. Where no closing rank was reported for a round, the cell says so.

Trend: what the marks look like

Closing ranks can be read together with scores. Reports on the 2025 BA LLB counselling put the General category's first-round closing rank at about 53, at a score of roughly 119 to 121 out of 150. A rough, third-party marks-to-rank guide from earlier cycles is below. It is indicative only, not an official table.

The marks needed for a given rank move with paper difficulty. A tough reasoning section can lower scores across the board, while an easier paper raises them.

What affects the AILET cut-off

  • Paper difficulty: Lengthy reasoning passages and a hard English section push scores down.

  • Seats: The BA LLB seat count is small, reported at about 120 including supernumerary seats, so ranks matter more than marks alone.

  • Applicants: More serious test takers means more candidates at the top of the list.

  • Reservation and withdrawals: Category seats and the number of candidates who leave seats open can change later-round closing ranks.

How to set your target

Decide the category rank you want, then work back to a mock score. Because the General category closed near rank 60 in round one in 2026, a safe plan is to aim for a mock average well above the roughly 120-mark zone reported for the top ranks, while keeping accuracy high under the 0.25 negative marking. If you belong to a reserved category, use the closing rank for your category, but also check the General list for open seats.

  • Track rank, not just marks: Compare your mock score with the rank distribution in your tests.

  • Keep a margin: Aim for 8 to 10 marks above the score band you need.

  • Watch sections: Logical Reasoning has 70 marks, so a weak score there is hard to offset.

You can check your readiness with timed AILET mock tests on Testkart and use the analysis to find slow sections. For the paper format and negative marking, see the AILET exam pattern page.
