CGPSC Civil Judge Study Notes: What to Include and How to Revise

CGPSC Civil Judge study notes: what to include, how to organise and revise them for prelims and mains.

Good CGPSC Civil Judge study notes are short, precise and built from the statute itself. The exam asks about exact provisions, so notes that retell a textbook in long paragraphs are slow to revise. Notes that capture the section, the rule and one example are fast to revise and easy to test yourself on.

What your notes should include

Subject area

What to capture

Constitution of India

Articles on fundamental rights, directive principles, the judiciary and subordinate courts, with the case each article is known for

Civil procedure and related Acts

Stages of a suit, key orders and rules, limitation periods, court fee and registration basics in one-page tables

Contract, property and other civil laws

Essentials of each concept, exceptions and one short example, for example what makes a contract void or a transfer valid

Criminal law and procedure

Offence essentials, punishments, trial stages and a comparison of old and new statutes

Evidence

Relevancy rules, admissions and confessions, burden of proof and the order in which evidence is led

Chhattisgarh Acts

A one-page summary per Act: scope, key definitions, authorities and procedures

Mains writing

Templates for framing issues and charges, judgment structure and a bilingual glossary of legal terms

How to organise your notes

  • Short notes per statute: One to two pages per Act, arranged by section number, so you can scan quickly the week before the exam.

  • Old versus new table: A side-by-side table of the earlier criminal law provisions and the new statutes, so you can answer whichever version a question uses.

  • Case-law list: A running list of important judgments with the principle they decide, grouped by subject.

  • Judgment templates: A skeleton for civil and criminal judgments with the order of headings you will follow every time.

  • Translation glossary: Legal terms in English and Hindi, added to after every practice passage.

  • Error log: Every mistake from tests and writing practice, with the correct section and a one-line rule.

A revision schedule

  1. Same day: Read your short note once before you sleep.

  2. After one week: Revise by recall, covering the note and writing what you remember.

  3. Monthly: Revise each statute's note and re-attempt the questions you got wrong.

  4. Last month: Use only short notes, tables and the error log, and keep reading bare acts for provisions you keep missing.

Reliable sources

Build your notes from the bare act text first. The Government of India's India Code portal hosts central Acts, and the state's own publications cover Chhattisgarh Acts. Use one standard textbook per subject, and check the commission's advertisement on psc.cg.gov.in so your notes follow the statutes it names.

Where notes fit with tests

Notes help you remember, and tests show whether you have remembered. After each chapter, take a short topic test, then update your notes with what you missed.
