CMAT Eligibility 2027: Qualification, Age Limit and Conditions

CMAT eligibility is simple on paper: you need a Bachelor's degree in any discipline, you must be a citizen of India, and there is no age limit. Final-year students can also apply if their result will be declared before admissions begin. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the exam, and the rules below come from the CMAT 2026 information bulletin, the latest official one at the time of writing.

The CMAT 2027 bulletin had not been published on the official website on 21 October 2026, so treat the 2027 conditions as tentative and confirm them in the bulletin once it is released. This page explains the qualification rule, the final-year clause, age, nationality, degree recognition and the common reasons applications run into trouble.

Educational Qualification

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Arts, science, commerce, engineering, law, medicine and other streams all qualify, so you do not need a business background to appear in CMAT.

Final-year candidates

If you are in the final year of your Bachelor's degree, you can apply provided your result will be declared before the admission process for the relevant academic session begins. Keep your result timeline in mind, because an institute can ask for proof of graduation at the time of admission.

Degree recognition

The bulletin asks candidates to confirm that their degree is recognised as per AICTE provisions. If it is not, the candidature or result can be cancelled. Check your university's recognition before you pay the fee.

Minimum marks

The bulletin does not set a minimum percentage or CGPA for taking the test. Individual institutions, however, may set their own academic requirements for admission, so read each institute's admission notice before you shortlist it.

Age Limit

The CMAT 2026 bulletin states that there is no age restriction for appearing in the exam. That means no upper or lower age limit and no age relaxation table is needed for the test itself. An individual institute or programme may still have its own conditions, so check them separately.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India. Candidates who are not Indian citizens should check the CMAT 2027 bulletin and the admission rules of the institutes they are targeting.

  • Language: The question paper is in English only, so you should be comfortable reading and answering in English.

  • Attempts: The bulletin does not state a limit on attempts. Each cycle needs a fresh application and fee.

  • Disability: Candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwD or PwBD) can claim the facilities described in the bulletin, such as a scribe and compensatory time. They need to upload the relevant certificate during the application.

Who May Face Problems

  • Unrecognised degree: If your degree is not recognised as per AICTE provisions, your candidature or result can be cancelled.

  • Result not declared in time: Final-year candidates whose result is not declared before admissions begin may be unable to take up a seat.

  • Incorrect details: Wrong name, date of birth or category can cause trouble at the exam centre or at admission. Use the correction window to fix errors.

  • Unsuccessful payment: The application is confirmed only after the fee payment succeeds, and the confirmation page is generated only after that.

Fee and Documents

The fee below is from the CMAT 2026 bulletin and excludes bank charges and GST. It is indicative for 2027 until NTA confirms the new fee, and it is non-refundable.

Reservation and Institute-Level Criteria

NTA does not allot seats. Admission happens at each institution, and reservation applies there. For central institutes the bulletin lists 15 percent for SC, 7.5 percent for ST, 27 percent for OBC (NCL) and 10 percent for General-EWS, with 5 percent horizontal reservation for PwD and PwBD candidates. State institutes follow their own state policy. Because every institute sets its own cut-off and selection process, shortlist colleges early and read their eligibility notices.

For the official rules, refer to the CMAT 2026 information bulletin and the NTA CMAT website.
