CS Foundation Eligibility 2026: Who Can Enter the CS Course Now
CS Foundation eligibility has a simple answer in 2026: nobody can register for the Foundation Programme afresh. ICSI closed new Foundation registrations on 3 February 2020, and the CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) is now the only qualifying entrance test for the CS Executive Programme, apart from specific exempt categories.
This page explains who is eligible for CSEET after Class 12, who is exempt from it, and what applies to candidates who passed or registered for Foundation earlier. Key change this cycle: ICSI restructured CSEET from the June 2026 session, and the conditions below follow its restructured announcement.

Eligibility at a glance
Particular | Details |
|---|---|
Fresh CS Foundation registration | Closed since 3 February 2020 |
Current entry test | CSEET, restructured from the June 2026 session |
Educational qualification for CSEET | Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination |
Nationality | Indian nationals only |
Exempt from CSEET | Foundation passers, CA Final and CMA Final passers, graduates and postgraduates, final-year or final-semester bachelor's students |
Registration validity | Three years from the month of registration |
Who can appear in CSEET
A candidate who has passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination can register for CSEET. Students who are still appearing in Class 12 can also register and sit the test. A student appearing in Class 12 must still produce the pass certificate when registering for the CS Executive Programme, so keep your results ready.
ICSI's announcement names no minimum percentage in Class 12 and no stream restriction, so commerce, science and arts students all qualify on the stated conditions. It also gives no age limit in the document we reviewed. Confirm both points on the restructured CSEET page on icsi.edu before you register.
Who is exempt from CSEET
Exempt candidates skip CSEET and register directly for the CS Executive Programme.
Category | Route |
|---|---|
Passers of the ICSI Foundation Examination | Register for CS Executive directly |
Passers of the Final stage of CA (ICAI) or CMA (ICMAI) | Register for CS Executive directly |
Holders of a bachelor's or postgraduate degree | Register for CS Executive directly |
Students in the final year or final semester of a bachelor's degree | Register for CS Executive directly |
Exempt categories can change, and the documents required differ by category. Read the official restructured CSEET announcement for the current list.
Candidates with a Foundation registration
Candidates who have already passed the Foundation Programme carry that pass forward as an exemption from CSEET. No separate entrance test is needed for them.
Candidates who registered for Foundation but have not passed are in a different position. ICSI's current announcement does not describe a transition plan for them, and we found no Foundation schedule for 2026. They should write to ICSI to confirm what attempts or validity remain, and then decide whether CSEET is the cleaner route.
Nationality and other conditions
Indian nationals only: ICSI's restructured CSEET announcement limits eligibility to Indian nationals.
Student Induction Programme: For the October 2026 session, ICSI requires candidates to complete the Student Induction Programme before sitting the exam.
One sitting: All four papers must be cleared in one sitting, with no carry forward of marks.
Result validity: A CSEET result is valid for one year from declaration.
Who is not eligible
Anyone looking for a new CS Foundation registration or a fresh Foundation exam slot.
Candidates who are not Indian nationals, under the restructured CSEET conditions.
Students who have not yet reached Class 12 or an equivalent examination.
Fees and registration validity
CSEET registration costs Rs. 7,500, which includes the Student Induction Programme and online classes. The examination fee is Rs. 1,500 per session, and concessions apply to specified categories.
