One point needs to be clear at the start. DSSSB prints the section names and the marks distribution, but it does not publish a topic-by-topic list. The topics below are drawn from the official scheme, the NCTE curriculum for elementary teacher education and the pattern seen in previous papers. Treat them as a preparation guide and confirm the scheme in the official advertisement.

The paper is a single computer-based test of two hours, with 1 mark for each correct answer and 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
Key points before you start
One written tier: Selection is based on the computer-based test followed by document verification. This post has no interview stage, even if older pages mention one.
Section B carries half the paper: The minimum qualifying marks apply to this section, so it needs the most study hours.
Section A has no separate cut-off: Even so, its 100 marks count towards your merit score.
Vacancies were revised: The post count moved from 1,180 to 1,169, so use the latest DSSSB notice for numbers and the syllabus scheme.
DSSSB PRT syllabus: Section A (general subjects)
Section A tests the skills any government teacher is expected to have. The questions are usually moderate, so steady practice gives good returns.

Arithmetical and Numerical Ability
Area | Topics | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Arithmetic | Number system, HCF and LCM, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest | Percentage |
Time-based | Time and work, time and distance, speed of trains and boats | Time and work |

English | Reading comprehension, tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, error spotting, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, one-word substitution, sentence improvement | Tenses and comprehension |
For both languages, passage-based questions reward careful reading more than rote grammar, so practise at least one passage a day.
DSSSB PRT syllabus: Section B (NCTE curriculum and teaching methodology)
Section B has 100 questions and is the part that decides whether you qualify. DSSSB describes it only as the NCTE curriculum including teaching methodology, so the topics below follow the elementary teacher education curriculum and previous question patterns.
Topic | What to study |
|---|---|
Child development and pedagogy | Growth and development, stages of development, heredity and environment, theories of Piaget, Vygotsky and Kohlberg, intelligence, motivation, individual differences |
Learning and teaching | Theories of learning, teaching methods, learning styles, lesson planning, assessment, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, learning outcomes |
Inclusive education | Children with special needs, learning disabilities, gifted learners, inclusive classroom practices |
Policy and school education | National Education Policy 2020, Right to Education Act 2009, National Curriculum Framework principles, school organisation and management |
Classroom management | Discipline, communication, teacher role, parent and community involvement |
Primary-level subject content and methods
Previous papers have also asked about the subjects taught at primary level: language (Hindi and English), mathematics and environmental studies. Expect content at Class 1 to 5 level along with how each subject is taught.
Language teaching: Stages of language acquisition, listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, role of grammar, and remedial teaching.
Mathematics: Basic concepts, number sense, mathematical thinking, and common errors in learning mathematics.
Environmental studies: Concept of EVS, activities and projects, learning from surroundings.
The coverage of subject-wise content is tentative because DSSSB does not list it, so build your base on pedagogy first and add this as revision material.
Section B topic detail
Since Section B is half the paper, it helps to know what each block really involves. The points below explain how to study each area, not just what to read.
Child development and learning theories
This is the most predictable part of the paper. Questions usually ask you to match a theorist with a concept or to identify a theory from a classroom example.
Piaget: Four stages of cognitive development, and what a primary child can and cannot do at each stage.
Vygotsky: Zone of proximal development, scaffolding and the role of language and social interaction.
Kohlberg and Erikson: Moral and psychosocial development stages, with one example for each.
Behaviourist and cognitive learning: Pavlov, Skinner and Thorndike, and how they differ from constructivist ideas.
Assessment and evaluation
Learn the difference between formative and summative assessment, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic testing and remedial teaching. Also understand how learning outcomes are linked to classroom assessment at the primary stage.
Inclusive education and policy
Study types of learning difficulty, adaptations in a regular classroom and the idea of equity in schooling. For policy, note the main provisions of the Right to Education Act 2009, such as free and compulsory education for ages 6 to 14, and the stated aims of NEP 2020 for the foundational stage.
Topic priority guide
This table is a preparation guide based on how the scheme is built, not on official weightage. DSSSB does not publish topic-wise question counts.
Priority | Topics | Reason |
|---|---|---|
High | Child development, learning theories, assessment, inclusive education | Core of the NCTE curriculum and Section B |
High | Comprehension in Hindi and English, percentage and arithmetic | Quick to score with regular practice |
Medium | NEP 2020, RTE Act, primary subject methods, reasoning series | Factual and easy to revise |
Steady | Current affairs, static GK, Delhi GK | Broad area where daily reading works better than last-minute study |
CTET and PRT syllabus
CTET qualification is compulsory for this post, so one preparation effort supports both exams. The overlap is largest in Section B.
CTET Paper I area | Helps in DSSSB PRT |
|---|---|
Child development and pedagogy | Section B pedagogy questions |
Language I and Language II | Teaching methods and Hindi and English in Section A |
Mathematics | Numerical ability and mathematics pedagogy |
Environmental studies | Environmental studies teaching and general awareness |
The difference is that DSSSB adds reasoning and general awareness and sets a longer paper, so CTET preparation alone is not enough.
How to cover the DSSSB PRT syllabus
Weeks 1 to 4, build Section B: Finish child development, learning theories and inclusive education first, using NCERT and NCTE-based textbooks.
Weeks 3 to 6, add Section A: Spend a short slot daily on reasoning, numerical ability, language passages and current affairs.
Weeks 6 to 8, policy and subject methods: Cover NEP 2020, the RTE Act and primary-level subject methods, then revise them.
Final weeks, full-length mocks: Take timed papers, analyse every wrong answer and revise weak topics.
Keep a one-page note of formulas, theorists and acts for the last week of revision.
Time strategy for the paper
With 200 questions in 120 minutes, you have about 36 seconds per question on average. Language and reasoning questions are faster, which leaves more time for conceptual Section B questions.
Part | Suggested time | Approach |
|---|---|---|
Section A (100 questions) | About 45 minutes | Attempt your strong subjects first and avoid long calculations |
Section B (100 questions) | About 60 minutes | Read each option carefully, as many options look similar |
Review | About 15 minutes | Revisit marked questions only if you can narrow the options |
Treat these timings as a starting point and adjust them after a few mocks. The negative marking of 0.25 means a doubtful guess with no elimination is usually not worth the risk.
Reading the syllabus is only the start, because the paper is time-bound. You can practise section-wise and full-length DSSSB PRT online tests on Testkart and use the score breakdown to find which topics need work.
