ISRO Scientist CS Eligibility 2026: Degree, Marks and Age
ISRO Scientist CS eligibility depends on three things: a BE/B.Tech degree in Computer Science Engineering (or an accepted allied branch), at least 65% aggregate marks or 6.84/10 CGPA, and an age of up to 28 years on the cut-off date. The marks rule is strict, with no relaxation for any category.
The rules below come from Advertisement No. ISRO:ICRB:03(EMC):2026 and the official FAQ document. Read them before you decide whether to apply in the next cycle, because details such as CGPA conversion and degree type decide whether an application is valid. For the full cycle summary, see the ISRO Scientist CS overview.

Educational qualification
You need a first-class BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree in Computer Science Engineering, with an aggregate of at least 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 out of 10. The FAQ explains the CGPA as the average of all semesters for which results are available.
How marks and CGPA are counted
Both shown: If your university shows both CGPA and percentage, at least one of them must meet the requirement.
Only CGPA shown: The CGPA itself must be 6.84 or more. Converting it to a percentage is not permitted, even if your university prescribes a formula.
Only percentage shown: The percentage must be 65 or more. Converting it to CGPA is also not permitted.
Course duration: The degree must be completed within the minimum period prescribed by the university.
Dual and integrated degrees
For a dual or integrated degree, the rule depends on how your marksheet is presented.
Marksheet shows | Figure ISRO counts |
|---|---|
Separate CGPA or percentage for graduation and post-graduation | The graduation-level figure |
One common figure for the whole course | That final figure |
No figure at all | The cumulative CGPA or percentage from the final or consolidated marksheet |
Postgraduates, AMIE and final-year students
ME/M.Tech holders: You can apply only if your BE/B.Tech meets the same 65% or 6.84 requirement. There is no extra weightage for a postgraduate degree.
AMIE or Graduate IETE: The FAQ asks for 65% or 6.84 CGPA in Section B alone, along with additional conditions listed there.
Final-year students: The FAQ does not address this directly, and the advertisement does not give a result deadline in the text we reviewed. Check the current advertisement and FAQ before applying.
Accepted degree branches
ISRO accepts allied names for Computer Science Engineering. The FAQ lists the following under the Computer Science posts.

Age limit and relaxation
The upper age limit is 28 years as on 16 September 2026, the last date for online applications. Age relaxation is available to serving Central Government civilian employees, ex-servicemen and persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD), as per Government of India orders. The advertisement does not state the number of relaxation years, so confirm the exact relaxation with the official notice.
Note that age relaxation applies only to the age limit. The FAQ states that no category gets a relaxation in the educational qualification or marks.
Nationality and other conditions
Indian nationals only: Only Indian citizens can apply.
NCS registration: The advertisement says candidates registered on the National Career Services portal and meeting the conditions may apply.
Valid email: Hall tickets and call letters are sent only by email, so a working email ID is compulsory.
NOC for government or PSU employees: Employed candidates must inform their employer and carry an original No Objection Certificate to the interview. The FAQ says private-sector and MNC employees do not need an NOC.

Disability benefits: PwBD candidates need a certificate of at least 40% relevant disability and must submit the prescribed annexures to claim compensatory time and a scribe.
Who is not eligible
Marks below 65% or 6.84 CGPA: This applies even if you hold an ME/M.Tech with higher marks.
MCA holders: The FAQ answers "No" for MCA candidates.
Correspondence BE/B.Tech: Degrees obtained through correspondence are not accepted, although part-time degrees are.
Other branches: Only the specialised branches named in the advertisement qualify for the Computer Science posts.
False information: Wrong details in the online form lead to rejection at the interview stage, with no travel allowance.
Application fee in brief
Applicants paid a processing fee of Rs. 750, of which Rs. 250 is non-refundable. A refund applies only if you appear in the written test, and the amount depends on your category. The advertisement and the FAQ word the category list slightly differently, so confirm yours in the official documents. The fee table is on the overview page.
