Odisha Judicial Service Cut Off: OJS Previous Year Marks
The Odisha Judicial Service cut-off works at three levels: the qualifying marks fixed by the rules for each stage, the category-wise marks of the last candidate called for the Mains or interview, and the final marks of the last candidate selected. OPSC publishes cut-off marks for Civil Judge (Junior Division) after each recruitment, usually with the final result.
For the current OJS 2025 recruitment (78 posts), no cut-off exists yet because the Preliminary has not been held. This page sets out the official minimum marks, the indicative figures reported for earlier cycles and how to set a safe target score. Treat every past figure as a benchmark only.

Official Qualifying Marks for OJS
These minimums come from the Orissa Superior Judicial Service and Orissa Judicial Service Rules, 2007. Clearing them makes you eligible for the next stage, but the actual cut-off is usually higher because shortlisting depends on merit and vacancies.
Stage | Category | Minimum required | In marks |
|---|---|---|---|
Preliminary (out of 100) | General and others | 40% | 40 |
Preliminary (out of 100) | SC and ST | 35% | 35 |
Mains aggregate (out of 750) | All | 45% | 337.5 |
Each Mains paper (out of 150) | All | 33% | 49.5 |
Viva Voce (out of 100) | All | 40% | 40 |
After the Mains, OPSC calls up to three times the number of vacancies in each category for interview, in order of merit. This ratio is what pushes the real interview cut-off above the 45% floor in most years.
Previous OJS Cut-off Reference

Third-party reports for the 2022 cycle give the following figures. They appear to be marks of the last selected candidate on the combined Mains and interview total, but we could not confirm the stage or total from an official document, so treat them as indicative only.
Category (OJS 2022, reported) | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved | 499 | 501 |
SEBC | 457 | 459 |
SC | 411 | 390 |
PwD (OH) | 430 | Not reported |
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
What Affects the OJS Cut-off
Number of posts: The jump from 34 posts in 2024 to 78 in 2025 widens every category, which usually eases the cut-off.
Number of applicants: If the practice rule is relaxed after the Supreme Court's August 2026 ruling, many more fresh graduates may apply, which can push the Preliminary cut-off up.
Paper difficulty: A tough Preliminary with negative marking pulls scores down across the board.
Category and women's reservation: Separate lists for UR, SEBC, SC, ST and PwBD, with about one-third of posts for women, produce different cut-offs for each group.
Interview ratio: Calling three times the vacancies sets the Mains cut-off relative to other candidates, not just the 45% floor.
How to Set Your Target Score
Stage | Official floor | Suggested safe target (indicative) |
|---|---|---|
Preliminary | 40 of 100 (35 for SC and ST) | 60 or more net marks after negative marking |
Mains | 338 of 750, with 50 in each paper | About 55% (410 or more), with no paper below 70 |
Viva Voce | 40 of 100 | 55 or more |
These targets are planning benchmarks, not official figures.
