OSSC CHSL Notification Overview

OSSC first published an indicative advertisement for this recruitment (No. 5916/OSSC dated 30 December 2025) and followed it with the detailed advertisement No. 728/OSSC on 2 March 2026. The recruitment is governed by the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level or Equivalent Recruitment Examination for Specialist Posts/Services Rules, 2022, as amended.

Unlike a general clerical exam, OSSC CHSL is a specialist exam. The preliminary paper is common to all posts, but the main written exam is a technical paper set according to the qualification prescribed for each post. Candidates choose their posts and give a preference order in the online application, and final allotment is made on merit-cum-preference.

  • Earlier cycles: OSSC has run this exam before under different post mixes, including the 2024 recruitment (Advertisement No. 1465/OSSC dated 30 March 2024) for AYUSH Assistant, Amin and Junior Fisheries Technical Assistant posts, and the 2024-II recruitment (Advertisement No. 4603/OSSC dated 18 November 2024) for Soil Conservation Extension Worker posts.

  • Older pages: Some websites still list posts from earlier cycles, such as Weaving Supervisor or Soil Conservation Extension Worker, against the 2025 recruitment. Follow the posts named in Advertisement No. 728/OSSC.

There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the preliminary exam. The exam is offered in both Odia and English, and the medium you chose in the application form cannot be changed.

  • Prelims is a screening stage: At least five times the category-wise vacancies are called for the main exam, and the final merit list is based on main exam marks.

  • Accuracy beats volume: Each question carries 1 mark, so four wrong guesses cancel a correct answer. Attempt questions you can narrow down to two options, and skip blind guesses.

  • The technical paper decides selection: With 200 marks, the main exam is where post-specific subject knowledge counts.

The advertisement does not state the number of questions or the duration of the main exam, so wait for the main exam notice. For a stage-wise breakdown, read the OSSC CHSL exam pattern page.

OSSC CHSL Selection Process

  1. Preliminary exam: 150 marks, objective, with negative marking. OSSC may fix minimum qualifying marks by category and post, and calls at least five times the category-wise vacancies to the main exam.

  2. Main written exam: A 200-mark technical paper for each post. Candidates numbering two times the vacancies, post-wise and category-wise, are shortlisted for certificate verification.

  3. Certificate verification: Original certificates are checked against the application. Missing this stage ends your candidature.

  4. Merit list: Prepared category-wise from main exam marks and your post preferences. Ties are broken by prelims marks, then by date of birth with the older candidate placed higher, then alphabetically.

Candidates with +2 Vocational (Fisheries) who apply only for Junior Fisheries Technical Assistant may be exempted from the prelims and allowed directly into the main exam. If they also apply for another post, they must write the prelims for that post.

Appointments are regular and all three are State Cadre posts, so you may be posted anywhere in Odisha. How to Prepare for OSSC CHSL

For the preliminary exam

  • Build Arithmetic and Data Interpretation first: Both are set at 10th standard, so speed and accuracy matter more than advanced methods.

  • Practise reasoning daily: Short daily sets build the pattern recognition the paper rewards.

  • Keep current events notes: Spend 20 to 30 minutes a day on national and international news and revise monthly.

  • Cover computer basics: Hardware, software, internet terms and common shortcuts are quick marks.

For the main written exam

  • Start the technical paper early: Do not wait for the prelims result. The main exam carries 200 marks and decides the final merit.

  • Use your Plus Two books: Most of the Junior Fisheries Technical Assistant and Junior Forensic Attendant syllabus follows Plus Two and secondary level science.

  • Amin candidates: Practise mensuration numericals and map-reading questions, including scale, coordinates and conventional signs.

Mock tests and revision

Pair them with previous year papers from the OSSC website to understand the real difficulty level, and keep an error log of every wrong or skipped question.

Take one full-length prelims mock a week in the early phase and two to three a week in the final month. which helps you practise the 0.25 negative marking rule under exam conditions.

OSSC CHSL Cut-off Reference

OSSC has not published category-wise cut-offs for the 2025 recruitment so far. Earlier cycles had different posts and vacancy numbers, so their cut-offs are only a rough benchmark. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants, so aim for a clear margin above past figures rather than a bare pass. Indicative past figures and how to set a target are on the OSSC CHSL cut-off page.
