RRB JE ME Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Relaxation

RRB JE ME eligibility depends on three things: the engineering qualification you hold, your age on the reference date, and the other conditions in the Centralised Employment Notice. For the current cycle, CEN 04/2026, Mechanical candidates need a diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or an allied stream.

This page sets out the qualification rules, the age limit with category-wise relaxation, and the conditions that commonly cause rejection. Eligibility figures below are as reported for CEN 04/2026 and should be checked against the official notice. The application window for this cycle has closed, but the rules also help you plan for the next one.

Educational qualification

Which streams count as Mechanical?

For the Mechanical group, reports of the notification describe a three-year diploma in engineering in Mechanical or an allied discipline. Allied streams listed include Production, Automobile, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Machining and Tool and Die Making, or a combination of these. A BE/B.Tech in the same discipline is also accepted.

Because stream names differ between state boards and universities, check the exact equivalence list in the Annexure of the official CEN before applying. If your diploma title is unusual, look for it by name in that list.

Result and completion rules

  • Completed qualification: candidates must hold the qualification by the deadline in the notice. Final-year students whose results are awaited are not eligible.

  • Recognised institution: the diploma or degree must come from a recognised board, university or AICTE-approved institution.

  • Marks: a minimum percentage is not reported for the Junior Engineer posts. Do not rely on a percentage figure from any page that does not cite the notice.

Serving railway employees in Group C and D posts and widowed or divorced women who have not remarried have separate relaxation limits in the notification. Those depend on service length and category, so read the official table instead of relying on a summary.

To calculate your age, count from your date of birth to the reference date, not to the exam date. For example, a General category candidate must not have crossed 33 years on that reference date.

Nationality and other conditions

  • Nationality: the candidate must be an Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or other categories permitted in the notification.

  • Medical standard: the post carries a medical standard, which is tested after CBT 2. Check the vision and fitness standards for the post in the notice.

  • Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and EWS claims need valid certificates in the prescribed format and date range.

  • Aadhaar details: the notice stresses that Aadhaar name and date of birth should match the Class 10 certificate.

  • One application: candidates generally apply to one RRB only, so choose the region carefully.

Who is not eligible

  • Result awaited: diploma or degree not completed by the deadline.

  • Unrelated stream: a Civil, Electrical or Computer Science qualification does not qualify you for the Mechanical group. For those streams, see the sibling Junior Engineer pages for that discipline.

  • Over age: crossing the upper limit on the reference date without a valid relaxation claim.

  • Mismatched documents: name or date of birth that differs between application, Aadhaar and certificates.

  • Multiple applications: submitting more than one application to different RRBs can lead to rejection.
