SSC JE Electrical Eligibility 2026: Qualification and Age Limit

SSC JE Electrical eligibility depends on three things: the educational qualification for the post you want, your age on the crucial date, and your nationality. The Staff Selection Commission sets different qualification rules for each department, so a candidate who is eligible for one post may not be eligible for another. This page explains the rules in the Junior Engineer notice of 2 September 2026 and shows how to check your own position before you plan your preparation.

Applications for the 2026 cycle have closed, but the rules below still apply to your result, verification and any future cycle that follows the same pattern. Always confirm the exact wording in the latest official notification.

This table is a summary. For the exact wording of the qualification, the experience clause and the post code, read the relevant section of the notification. Border Roads Organisation posts are also in the Electrical and Mechanical group, and their qualification is given in the notice itself.

Rules that catch candidates out

  • Experience must come after the qualification: Where a post asks for experience, only the experience gained after you complete the required qualification is counted.

  • Certificates matter at verification: Selected candidates must produce mark sheets for all years or semesters and other original documents. Candidature can be cancelled if the documents do not support the claim made in the application.

  • Discipline must match: A degree or diploma in a different branch does not qualify you for an electrical post unless the notice names it.

  • Cross-applications are limited: The notice allows Junior Engineer (Electrical) candidates to apply for Junior Engineer (Telecom) and Junior Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) too, subject to the qualification for that post.

Final-year students

The notice should be read for the date by which the qualification must be completed. Do not assume that appearing candidates are eligible. If the notice does not clearly allow them, treat the answer as no and check with the official helpline listed in the notification.

Age limit and relaxation

Age is calculated as on 1 August 2026. The upper limit is 30 years for some posts and 32 years for others, so check the limit attached to your post and department.

Born not earlier than 2 August 1996 and not later than 1 August 2008

Up to 32 years

The lower window is the minimum age of 18 years on the crucial date. Reserved categories receive relaxation in the upper age limit as follows.

PwBD (UR and EWS)
