ADRE Class 4 Eligibility 2026: Age, Education and Conditions
ADRE Class 4 eligibility decides whether your application will even be considered, so it is the first thing to check before you spend months preparing. The Grade IV posts under the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination are open to candidates with school-level qualifications, but the rules on age, residence, registration and documents are strict, and mistakes here lead to rejection after you have cleared the exam.
A note on sources. As of 19 October 2026, we could not confirm a final official Grade IV notification for the new cycle. The conditions below are those reported for the previous cycle by news and exam-prep sources, and some details differ between sources. Treat every item as indicative, and verify the age reference date, qualification wording and document list in the notification.
Eligibility at a Glance
Criterion | Requirement (reported, to be verified) |
|---|---|
Educational qualification | Class VIII pass, HSLC pass or HSLC with ITI, depending on the post |
Age limit | 18 to 40 years as on the notified reference date |
Nationality | Indian citizen |
Residence and registration | Assam employment exchange registration reported |
Number of attempts | No fixed limit reported; governed by the age limit |
Higher qualification | Qualifications above the prescribed level reported as not eligible |
Post-specific needs | Driving licence, trade certificate or physical standards for certain posts |
Educational Qualification
Grade IV posts are grouped by the qualification they need. A single candidate can often apply for more than one group if they meet the conditions of each, but check how the notification handles this.
Qualification levels
Level | Qualification (reported) | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
Class VIII level | Elementary school pass or equivalent, such as the state-level Class VIII examination | Accepted equivalent certificates |
HSLC level | HSLC (Class 10) pass from the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, or an equivalent recognised board | Equivalence of other boards |
HSLC with ITI | HSLC plus an ITI pass certificate | Which trades are accepted for which posts |
The exact post names and the group each belongs to come from the notification. Do not rely on a list from a coaching website.
Result and certificate rules
Result deadline: notifications normally require that you have passed the qualifying examination on or before a stated date. If your result is awaited, check whether provisional applications are allowed.
Equivalent boards: a qualification from another recognised board is usually accepted if it is stated as equivalent. Keep the equivalence certificate if your board is not the state board.
Percentage and grades: a minimum percentage has not been reported for Grade IV posts. If your board shows grades, keep the board's conversion note.
Discipline: a general school pass is reported to be enough for most posts. The ITI group needs the trade named in the notification.
Can graduates and Class 12 pass candidates apply?
This is the question candidates ask most. Reports of the previous cycle say that candidates holding qualifications above the prescribed level are not eligible for Grade IV, with some sources placing the limit at Class 12 and others placing it lower. Because the sources differ, the answer depends on the notification wording. Do not assume that a higher qualification gives you an advantage, and do not apply to the wrong grade, because Grade III and Grade IV have separate qualification rules.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The reported age range is 18 to 40 years. Your age is counted as on a reference date given in the notification. One recent report mentions 1 January 2026 as the date, but others still carry an older date, so verify it. The minimum age is counted the same way, so a candidate who turns 18 after the date may not be eligible even if they are 18 on exam day.
Category | Upper age relaxation (reported) | Maximum age (40 plus relaxation) |
|---|---|---|
General | None | 40 years |
OBC/MOBC | 3 years | 43 years |
SC/ST | 5 years | 45 years |
Ex-servicemen | 2 years | 42 years |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 10 years | 50 years |
The maximum ages above are simple additions to the reported base of 40 years, and they are indicative. Relaxations may carry conditions, such as service rules for ex-servicemen or a minimum disability percentage, so read the notification. If you qualify for more than one relaxation, check whether the notification lets you claim both or only one.
How to check your age
Note your date of birth exactly as in the HSLC certificate or admit card.
Take the reference date from the notification.
Count completed years up to that date, not up to the date you apply.
Add the relaxation for your category and compare it with 40 years.
Nationality, Residence and Registration
Citizenship: you must be an Indian citizen.
Assam link: reports mention Assam domicile or residence conditions. The exact rule, including what proof is accepted, is in the notification.
Employment exchange: earlier reports mention registration with an Assam employment exchange. If this applies, keep the registration card valid and in your name before applications open, and note renewal dates.
Common registration: one registration ID has been reported to cover applications for both Grade III and Grade IV where you qualify for both.
Other Conditions
Government employees: serving employees may need to produce a no-objection certificate from their department at document verification.
Character and conduct: government recruitment normally expects good character, and the notification states what can bar a candidate.
Medical and physical fitness: posts such as driver may carry vision, licence or physical standards, given in the post-wise details.
Skill requirements: a valid driving licence for driver posts, and the ITI certificate for ITI-linked posts.
Who Is Not Eligible
Candidates outside the age window: too young or too old on the reference date after relaxation.
Candidates without the qualifying certificate: a pass certificate, not just admission or appearance, is the safe standard.
Candidates above the prescribed qualification: as noted, reports say they are not eligible for Grade IV.
Candidates who do not meet registration or residence rules: missing employment exchange registration or domicile proof when required.
Candidates with false information: wrong details or forged certificates can lead to cancellation of the candidature, even after selection.
Documents to Keep Ready
Document | Purpose |
|---|---|
Class VIII or HSLC certificate and marksheet | Proof of qualification and date of birth |
ITI certificate, if applying for that group | Trade qualification |
Caste or category certificate | Reservation and age relaxation |
Residence or domicile proof | Local eligibility, as applicable |
Employment exchange registration card | Registration condition, as applicable |
Disability or ex-servicemen certificate | Relaxation claim |
Photograph and signature | Application upload, in the size the notification sets |
No-objection certificate | For serving government employees |
Fee and Application Notes
Some reports describe the previous cycle as free of application fee, while others still show a small fee for some categories. Neither is confirmed for 2026, so look at the fee section of the notification. Apply only through the official portal named there, and never pay anyone to apply for you.
Eligibility Mistakes to Avoid
Using the wrong date: calculating age on the exam date instead of the notified reference date.
Name or date mismatch: a spelling or birth date that differs between certificates. Fix it through the board before applying.
Applying for the wrong level: choosing a post group that needs a qualification you do not hold.
Expired or missing certificates: category or disability certificates that are not valid in the required format.
Waiting until the last day: portals slow down near the deadline, and the correction window may be short.
Use the official Assam government portal and the notification.
