Nursing & Paramedical Recruitment

All India Institute of Medical Sciences BSc Nursing

AIIMS BSc Nursing is an entrance examination administered in connection with All India Institute of Medical Sciences, taken by students preparing for nursing college admissions.

AIIMS BSc Nursing Study Material

The AIIMS BSc Nursing entrance exam is the computer-based test that AIIMS New Delhi conducts for admission to the four-year B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing programme at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. One common test fills seats across every participating AIIMS, and admission is through AIIMS's own entrance, not NEET UG scores. In the 2026 cycle, 1,366 seats were offered across 19 AIIMS, and the course is open to female candidates only.

This page brings together everything you need for the next cycle: how the exam works, who can apply, the fee, the exam pattern, the syllabus standard, seats at each AIIMS, counselling and how to prepare. Figures are taken from the AIIMS B.Sc Courses Prospectus 2026 and official notices. The 2027 notification has not been released yet, so treat the 2026 details as your reference point and confirm everything once the new prospectus is out.

Does AIIMS Use NEET UG for B.Sc Nursing?

No. This is one of the most common doubts, so it is worth settling early. AIIMS New Delhi conducts its own entrance test for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, and the 2026 prospectus fills seats strictly on the merit of that exam. A NEET UG score is not needed and is not used for these seats.

Some reports have discussed whether NEET UG could one day replace the AIIMS nursing entrance, but no official decision has been announced. Many state and private colleges do admit B.Sc Nursing students through NEET UG, which is why the two are often confused. If you are targeting both, prepare for NEET UG and the AIIMS exam together, since the science content overlaps heavily.

Seat numbers can change each year, and AIIMS can amend the matrix before results. Reservation follows central rules: 27% OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% SC, 7.5% ST and 10% EWS, with a 5% horizontal reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility rules for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing are short but strict. Check each one before you register, because AIIMS verifies documents at seat allocation and cancels candidature that does not meet the rules.

Educational Qualification

  • Qualifying exam: 10+2, Senior Secondary or Intermediate Science from a recognised board or university in India.

  • Subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are all required.

  • Minimum marks: 55% aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for General, OBC (non-creamy layer) and EWS candidates; 50% for SC and ST candidates.

  • Appearing candidates: Students taking their Class 12 exams in the same year can apply, but must show proof of passing with the required marks at seat allocation.

Age Limit

You must be at least 17 years old on 31 December of the admission year. For 2026, candidates born on or after 2 January 2010 were not eligible. The prospectus does not set an upper age limit for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing.

Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Indian citizens apply through the online form. Foreign nationals are nominated through Indian Missions and do not take the entrance test.

  • Gender: B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing at AIIMS is open to female candidates only.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates are examined by a Medical Board, and admission depends on being declared fit.

Steps to Apply

  1. Basic Registration: Create your account on the official portal with your personal details. AIIMS does not allow changes to these details after this step, so enter them exactly as on your Class 10 certificate.

  2. Code generation: Generate the course code for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing after your basic registration is accepted.

  3. Final Registration: Upload your photograph, signature and other documents, then pay the fee by debit card, credit card or net banking.

  4. Check status: AIIMS publishes the accepted and rejected status of applications and offers a short window to fix deficiencies.

Common reasons for rejection include a blurred photograph, a mismatch in name or date of birth, and a category certificate issued outside the permitted dates. The fee is not refunded, so check everything before paying.

Exam Pattern

The B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing entrance is a single online paper of 2 hours with 100 multiple-choice questions split into four parts.

Each correct answer earns 1 mark, each wrong answer costs one-third of a mark, and unanswered questions score zero. In 2026, AIIMS ran the exam in morning and evening shifts because of the high number of applicants, and scores were normalised across shifts.

What This Means for You

  • Science decides your rank: Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 90 of the 100 marks, so your preparation time should reflect that.

  • Biology matters twice: It carries 30 marks and is also the first tie-breaker when two candidates score the same.

  • Guess with care: Three wrong answers wipe out one correct answer, so attempt a question only when you can rule out at least one or two options.

Syllabus

AIIMS does not prescribe a topic-wise syllabus for this exam. The prospectus says the questions follow the general standard of Class 12 under the 10+2 scheme. In practice, that means the NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 science books form the core of your preparation.

Subject

Important areas to cover

Physics

Mechanics, current electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics, semiconductors

Chemistry

Mole concept, chemical bonding, equilibrium, electrochemistry, organic reactions, biomolecules

Biology

Human physiology, genetics, reproduction, cell biology, plant physiology, ecology

General Knowledge

Current affairs, Indian polity, history, geography, health awareness, everyday science

Result, Merit List and Counselling

AIIMS publishes the result as a merit list with roll numbers and ranks, and candidates can see their scores after logging in. To qualify, you need at least 50% in the entrance test if you are General or EWS, 45% if OBC and 40% if SC or ST. Only qualified candidates are ranked.

Tie-Breaking Rules

  1. Higher marks in Biology

  2. Higher marks in Chemistry

  3. Higher marks in Physics

  4. Older candidate ranked higher

Seat Allocation

Seats at all participating AIIMS are allotted online. All qualified candidates can take part in Round 1 and Round 2, and the choices you enter are kept for both rounds. An open round follows for remaining seats, where fresh choices are filled and a security deposit (Rs. 25,000 for Hons. Nursing in 2026) is required. Candidates who already hold a Round 1 or Round 2 seat cannot join the open round.

Closing ranks shift every year with seat numbers and competition.

Course Fees and Hostel

One reason this programme is so popular is its very low cost. The fees below are from the 2026 prospectus and can be revised.

B.Sc Nursing (Post-Basic) at AIIMS New Delhi

AIIMS New Delhi also runs a two-year B.Sc Nursing (Post-Basic) programme for registered nurses. It is a different course with a different exam, so do not confuse it with the Hons. programme.

  • Seats: 50 at AIIMS New Delhi in 2026, of which 30 were for outside candidates and 20 for AIIMS departmental candidates.

  • Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent, a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery, and registration as a nurse and midwife with a State Nursing Council.

  • Selection: Stage I is a 90-minute online test with 70 MCQs in English on nursing subjects, held in Delhi/NCR. Stage II is a personal assessment worth 30 marks.

How to Prepare for the AIIMS BSc Nursing Exam

The exam rewards clear NCERT concepts, steady accuracy and calm time use. Since there is no official topic list, build your plan around the Class 11 and Class 12 science books and a daily current-affairs habit.

Subject-Wise Approach

  • Biology: Read NCERT line by line. Human physiology, genetics, reproduction and ecology deserve repeated revision because direct, fact-based questions are common.

  • Chemistry: Split time across physical, organic and inorganic chemistry. Practise mole concept and equilibrium numericals, and revise named reactions from organic chemistry.

  • Physics: Focus on formula-based questions from electricity, optics and modern physics. Keep a one-page formula sheet for each chapter.

  • General Knowledge: Spend 20 minutes a day on current affairs and keep monthly notes. Add health schemes, important days and basic polity.

A Simple Preparation Plan

  1. Months 1 to 3: Finish NCERT concepts in all three sciences and start daily GK reading.

  2. Months 4 to 5: Add chapter-wise tests and previous year questions. Note every mistake in an error log.

  3. Final 6 to 8 weeks: Take full-length timed mocks two or three times a week, analyse each one the same day, and revise from your error log.

Practise in the Real Format

Mock tests help you get used to the 2-hour, 100-question format and the cost of wrong answers. When you start timed practice.

Keeping your tests and notes together on Testkart makes the final phase simpler, because each test result points you straight to the chapters you need to revise. Always confirm the latest exam rules on the official AIIMS exams portal before the exam.
