AIIMS Nursing Officer Cut Off: NORCET Percentile Guide

The AIIMS Nursing Officer cut-off works differently at each NORCET stage. Stage I has a minimum qualifying percentile, but the real cut-off is set by shortlisting up to 5 times the seats in each category, which pushes it far higher. Stage II has fixed qualifying percentages, and after that your rank decides which institute you get, if any.

This page lists the reported Stage I cut-off percentiles of recent cycles, explains the Stage II qualifying marks and shows how to set a target score. The rules come from the NORCET-11 notice issued by AIIMS New Delhi.

How the NORCET Cut-off Works

Stage

Official rule

What decides the real cut-off

Stage I

Minimum percentile of 50 (UR, EWS), 45 (OBC), 40 (SC, ST)

Shortlisting up to 5 times the seats in each category, so the last shortlisted percentile becomes the cut-off

Stage II

Minimum of 50% (UR, EWS), 45% (OBC), 40% (SC, ST)

Merit rank and institute preferences at seat allocation

PwBD candidates get 5 points of relaxation at both stages, and all qualified PwBD candidates are called for Stage II.

Every figure is far above the official minimum of 50, 45 or 40, because the shortlist is capped at 5 times the seats. In NORCET-11, about 55,967 candidates crossed the minimum, but only 12,638 were called for Stage II, as reported after the result.

Cut-offs change every cycle with seats, difficulty and the number of applicants. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

The reported Stage II cut-offs of NORCET-8 and NORCET-9 for the main categories matched these qualifying percentages. Qualifying Stage II does not guarantee a seat. Seats are allotted in merit order against your preferences, so a higher rank gives you a wider choice of institutes.

What Affects the Cut-off

  • Number of seats: More seats mean a larger Stage II shortlist and a lower Stage I cut-off. NORCET-11 had 2,218 tentative posts.

  • Number of candidates: Around one lakh candidates took NORCET-11 Stage I, as reported.

  • Paper difficulty: Percentiles adjust for overall difficulty, but a hard paper still compresses scores near the cut-off.

  • Negative marking: With one-third of a mark deducted per wrong answer, careless attempts lower your percentile.

How to Set Your Target

  • Stage I: Aim clearly above the recent cut-off percentiles for your category, not the official minimum. For UR candidates, recent cut-offs have been in the 90s.

  • Stage II: Aim well above the qualifying percentage, since your rank decides your institute.

  • Accuracy over attempts: Fewer wrong answers also helps as the first tie-breaker in Stage II.

  • Track net score: Measure your score after negative marking in every mock, section by section.

To check where you stand, you can take full-length online tests on Testkart with negative marking and compare your net score after each attempt. The full marks scheme is on the AIIMS Nursing Officer exam pattern page, and the topics are on the AIIMS Nursing Officer syllabus page.
