APPSC Forest Beat Officer Syllabus: Screening and Mains Guide
The APPSC Forest Beat Officer syllabus has two subject areas that run through both the screening test and the main exam: General Studies and Mental Ability, and General Science with General Mathematics at SSC (Class 10) standard. The main exam adds a qualifying essay on forests and the environment. The syllabus below follows Annexure II of Notification No. 06/2025 issued by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
Because the same topics appear at both stages, one round of preparation covers the screening test and the main exam. The main exam adds a few extra units, which are marked below, and asks more questions on each paper.

Qualifying Essay
The main exam opens with a descriptive essay of 50 marks on a theme related to forests and the environment. It can be written in English, Telugu or Urdu. The essay is qualifying only, but if you fail it your objective papers are not counted.
Likely themes: Forest conservation, wildlife protection, climate change, community participation in forestry, forest fires, human-wildlife conflict.
Structure: A short introduction, three or four clear points with examples from Andhra Pradesh, and a practical conclusion.
Practice: Write one essay a week in your chosen language within 40 minutes, then check it for structure and facts.
What Changes Between Screening and Mains
More questions: Each subject area moves from 75 questions in the screening test to 100 in the main exam.
Extra units: Astronomy in Science, and trigonometry and mensuration in Mathematics, appear only in the main exam.
Essay: The qualifying essay is added in the main exam.
Prepare the main exam units from the start. The gap between the screening result and the main exam can be short, and it leaves little time to learn new topics.
