Army GD Agniveer Eligibility: Age, Education, Physical
Army GD Agniveer eligibility rests on five things: gender and marital status, age, Class 10 education, nationality and physical standards. Missing any one of them can end your application, sometimes only at the rally stage, so it pays to check each condition before you apply.
This page sets out the conditions reported for the 2026-27 cycle, shows where websites disagree, and lists the documents you should keep ready. Eligibility is fixed each year by the Indian Army in its notification, so confirm every detail on the official portal, joinindianarmy.nic.in.

Key points to know
Eligibility is checked more than once: The online form relies on your declaration, but original documents and measurements are verified at the rally.
Websites disagree on some figures: The upper age limit, the date-of-birth window and the height by region are quoted differently across sources, so use the notification as the final authority.
Age relaxation: Some sources state that no relaxation is given to any category for Agniveer recruitment. Confirm this in the notification rather than assume a relaxation.
Rules change by cycle: Do not rely on last year's criteria, even if the post is the same.
Gender and marital status
Agniveer General Duty is open to unmarried male candidates. Candidates must remain unmarried during their engagement as Agniveers, as reported in the scheme conditions. Separate categories for women, such as Women Military Police, have their own notification and criteria and are not part of this page.
Age limit
The age band reported for Agniveer General Duty in the current cycle is 17.5 to 21 years. The Army does not state age as a single "age on a date" rule alone. It fixes a date-of-birth window in the notification, and you must have been born within it.
Websites quote different windows and reference dates for the 2026-27 cycle, and in several cases the printed window does not match the stated age band exactly. Because even one day outside the window means rejection, read the exact dates in the notification and compare them with your certificate.
Item | What to do |
|---|---|
Minimum age | 17.5 years; candidates just above this age should check the exact window |
Maximum age | 21 years as reported; some third-party pages quote a higher upper limit, so verify |
Date-of-birth window | Take the two dates from the notification and compare them with your Class 10 certificate |
Age proof | Class 10 board certificate or equivalent as accepted in the notification |
Why age matters early
Candidates close to the upper limit have just one or two chances in their lives. If you will cross the limit during the cycle, work out the date carefully and do not postpone preparation. Those near the lower limit should confirm that their date of birth falls inside the window, since the age is counted from a fixed reference date, not from the day you apply.
Educational qualification
For Agniveer General Duty the base qualification is Class 10 (matriculation) pass from a recognised board. The marks conditions reported for the current cycle are:
Aggregate: At least 45 per cent in the Class 10 examination, counted on the subjects specified in the notification.
Subject-wise: At least 33 per cent in each subject.
Grading systems: If your board gives grades instead of marks, the notification explains the equivalent. Keep the board's conversion rule or a certificate showing percentage handy.
Candidates who are awaiting the Class 10 or Class 12 result may be allowed to apply, but they must produce the original mark sheet at a later stage, as reported by one source. Confirm this provision before you rely on it.
Nationality
Indian citizens are eligible. The notification also lists limited categories of candidates from certain neighbouring countries and persons of Indian origin, and a nationality certificate from the Government of India is required for them, except in cases the notification specifically exempts. If you are not an Indian citizen by birth, read this part of the notification word for word.
Physical standards
Physical standards are checked at the rally in the physical measurement test and the medical examination. The numbers below are those reported for the current cycle by third-party sources and may differ for your region.
Standard | Reported requirement | Note |
|---|---|---|
Height | About 160 to 170 cm depending on region of domicile | Check the table for your zone in the notification |
Weight | Proportionate to height, with minimums reported for some regions | Confirm the minimum for your region |
Chest | 77 cm unexpanded with 5 cm expansion | Expansion is measured at the rally |
1.6 km run | Graded, with the best band reported at up to 5 minutes 30 seconds | Run time earns marks, not just a pass |
Pull-ups | 10 for the top marks, fewer for lower marks | Qualifying minimum in the notification |
9-foot ditch and zig-zag balance | Must be cleared | Qualifying events |
The height standard depends on the region you belong to and not where you live now, so use the domicile section of the notification. A candidate from a hill region can have a lower height requirement than one from the plains.
Medical and character conditions
Medical fitness: The medical examination checks vision, hearing, body structure and general health. Conditions such as flat feet, knock knees, certain tattoos or untreated ailments can lead to rejection as per the medical standards in the notification.
Tattoos: Permitted tattoo locations and sizes are laid down in the notification. Do not assume your tattoo is acceptable.
Character: Candidates are verified for police and character records. Involvement in a criminal case can make you ineligible.
Applying for more than one category
Candidates meeting the criteria may apply for more than one Agniveer category in the same cycle, for example General Duty and Tradesman. As reported, each category has its own CEE, while the rally tests are common. Check the notification for the exact rule before you choose.
Who is not eligible
Married candidates: Marriage at the time of applying makes you ineligible.
Outside the date-of-birth window: Too young or too old, even by a day.
Below the marks requirement: Less than the aggregate or subject-wise percentage in Class 10.
Below physical or medical standards: Short of the height, chest or fitness requirements, or medically unfit.
Wrong or false details: Incorrect information or forged documents lead to disqualification at any stage.
Candidates of the wrong category: Women applying for the male General Duty category.
