Army GD Agniveer Exam Pattern: CEE and Rally Stages

The Army GD Agniveer exam pattern has two main parts: an online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) and a recruitment rally with physical, medical and document checks. The CEE is a short objective paper in four subjects, and the rally is where fitness is graded. Knowing how marks are earned in each part helps you decide where to spend your effort.

This page explains the pattern stage by stage, flags the details that are reported differently across the web, and ends with a time-management plan. Always confirm the final pattern in the official notification and your admit card on joinindianarmy.nic.in.

Key points to know

  • The CEE comes first: You are called to a rally only after clearing the online paper.

  • The paper is bilingual or multilingual: Candidates can choose from a list of languages while applying, and the list is given in the notification.

  • Physical marks are real marks: The run and pull-ups are graded, so fitness is not only a pass-or-fail hurdle.

  • Details vary across sources: Question count, marks per question and negative marking have been reported differently by different websites. Rely on the notification.

Stage 1: Online CEE pattern

The General Duty CEE is an online objective test. It is reported as a single paper of around one hour covering four subjects. Questions are of Class 10 level. The table lists the sections and their focus. For the number of questions and marks per section, use the figure printed in the current notification, since third-party sites quote different splits.

Section

Main focus

Time approach

General Knowledge

History, geography, polity, economy, current affairs, defence awareness

Fastest section; recall-based

General Science

Physics, chemistry, biology, environment

Quick if concepts are clear

Mathematics

Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry basics, statistics

Needs the most time per question

Logical Reasoning

Series, analogy, coding, directions, non-verbal reasoning

Short sets; skip heavy figure puzzles first

Mode and language

The test is taken at a computer-based test centre. You can mark an answer, review it and change it before submitting. The notification lists the languages in which questions are available, and you select yours during registration.

Sessions and normalisation

Because lakhs of candidates appear, the CEE is held in several sessions across days. Where papers differ in difficulty, scores can be normalised across sessions, as reported for recent cycles. This is one more reason not to compare your raw score with a friend who attempted a different shift.

Marking scheme and negative marking

Each correct answer earns marks and unattempted questions earn none. Whether wrong answers are penalised, and by how much, has been reported inconsistently across websites for the current and earlier cycles. Some sources say there is no negative marking, while others quote a deduction. Read the marking scheme in the official notification and in the instructions that appear on screen before the test starts.

Until you have confirmed it, practise as if wrong answers might cost you. This is the safer habit, and it costs little. If it turns out there is no penalty, you can attempt every question in the last two minutes.

What the CEE pattern means for you

  • Roughly one minute per question: In a paper of about fifty questions in an hour, long calculations are a trap. Learn tables, squares and percentage fractions.

  • Sections are not separately timed in most reports: You can move between sections, so begin with the one you are strongest in.

  • Breadth beats depth: With four subjects in one short paper, covering all topics at basic level is better than mastering one subject.

  • Accuracy protects your score: Even if there is no penalty, careless errors cost the same as lack of knowledge, so slow down on questions you can solve.

  • Sectional minimums may apply: If the notification sets a minimum in any section, a weak subject can end your chances even with a high total.

Stage 2: Recruitment rally

Candidates who qualify in the CEE are called to a rally by the Army Recruiting Office of their region. The rally includes the physical fitness test (PFT), physical measurement test (PMT), adaptability test, medical examination and document verification.

Physical fitness test for male candidates

As reported for the current cycle, the PFT has graded and qualifying events.

Event

Type

Reported standard

1.6 km run

Graded

Top group at up to 5 minutes 30 seconds, with a second group for slightly slower times and fewer marks

Pull-ups

Graded

10 pull-ups earns the highest marks, with fewer pull-ups earning lower marks and a minimum number required

9-foot ditch

Qualifying

Cross the ditch in the allowed attempts

Zig-zag balance

Qualifying

Complete the balance beam

The exact marks for each band, along with any allowance for high-altitude regions, are listed in the notification, so check them for your recruiting zone.

Physical measurement test

Height, weight and chest are measured against standards that depend on the region of domicile. Reported numbers include a chest of 77 cm with 5 cm expansion and heights ranging from about 160 to 170 cm by region. Because sources disagree on exact figures, verify your own region's standard in the notification before you start training for the measurement.

Adaptability test, medical and documents

  • Adaptability test: A short screening that judges suitability for military life.

  • Medical examination: Conducted at a military hospital for candidates who clear the earlier stages. Treat it seriously and avoid last-minute surprises such as untreated minor conditions.

  • Document verification: Carry original certificates and the printouts mentioned in the notification. A mismatch in name or date of birth can cost you a place.

How the final merit is formed

The final merit list combines CEE performance and rally performance as per the weightage in the notification. The Army has also reported bonus marks for certain certificates in some cycles, such as sports or technical qualifications, so check the current notification for any such provision.

A simple way to think about it: the CEE gets you to the rally, and your fitness grading and merit position decide the final result within the vacancies of your region. The Army does not release a fixed vacancy number for General Duty in advance in the sources reviewed, so confirm vacancies for your zone on the portal.

Time management and exam-day strategy

  1. Do a quick first pass: Answer the questions you can solve in under 30 seconds and mark the rest for review.

  2. Start with General Knowledge and Science: These are recall-based and quick, leaving more time for Mathematics.

  3. Cap the time on any question: If you have spent more than 90 seconds, move on.

  4. Keep the last five minutes for review: Check flagged questions and fix any answers you left blank if the marking allows it.

  5. Reach the centre early: Carry the admit card and the ID listed in the instructions.

For practice that matches this timing, attempt full-length Army GD Agniveer online tests on Testkart, then review wrong answers and slow questions the same day. Training for the 1.6 km run and pull-ups should run in parallel, so the rally does not catch you unprepared.

Older pages and where to verify

Older pages and videos may still show earlier patterns, previous-year physical standards or different languages of the paper. Follow the official notification of the current cycle on the recruitment portal, and treat third-party summaries, including this one, as guidance.
