About the Assam Rifles

Raised in 1835, the Assam Rifles is the oldest central paramilitary force in India. It works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, while its operational role in the North East is closely tied to the Indian Army. The force guards the India-Myanmar border and supports counter-insurgency and civic action work across the north-eastern states.

For a recruit, this means a disciplined, field-oriented career with postings largely in the North East. Technical tradesmen keep the force's vehicles, weapons, signals, equipment and medical units running, which is why the technical rally asks for trade-specific ITI or diploma training rather than only academic marks.

Latest Update: Technical and Tradesman Rally 2026

  • Notification out: DGAR has released the recruitment notice (Memo No. I.12016/A Branch (Rect Cell)/2026/1310) for 354 technical and tradesman posts.

  • Earlier 2026 notice: A separate compassionate ground recruitment for 117 posts was accepted offline earlier in the year, and that window closed on 11 May 2026. It applies only to eligible dependants and is not the same as the open rally.

The 354 vacancies are tentative and spread across 17 trades. Warrant Officer (Cipher) alone accounts for more than a third of the total, so candidates with a 10+2 science background and electronics or ICT training have the widest opening this year.

Exempted

  1. Visit the official website and open the recruitment rally 2026 link.

  2. Register with a working mobile number and email ID.

  3. Fill in personal, domicile, educational and trade details exactly as they appear in your certificates.

  4. Upload your photograph, signature and the documents asked for.

  5. Pay the fee online or through SBI challan, if applicable.

  6. Submit the form and keep a printout for the rally.

Only one application is allowed per candidate. Wrong domicile, a trade qualification that does not match the notification, or a missing driving licence for Recovery Vehicle Mechanic are common reasons for rejection at the documentation stage.

Selection Process

  1. PST and PET: Height, chest and the timed run. Both are qualifying.

  2. Documentation: Original certificates checked at the rally.

  3. Computer Based Test: A 100-mark objective test. Qualifying marks are 35% for UR and EWS, and 33% for SC, ST and OBC.

  4. Trade skill test: Qualifying only, with a computer test and a practical test in your trade. Candidates are called on CBT merit at about four times the vacancies per trade and category.

  5. Detailed Medical Examination: As per CAPF medical guidelines, with a review medical examination for those declared unfit.

  6. Final merit: Prepared trade-wise and category-wise from CBT marks, for candidates who clear every other stage.

Because the trade test and physical tests carry no marks, your CBT score decides your rank. Clearing the cut-off is not enough; you need a score that places you inside the vacancies for your trade and category.

Exam Pattern

The 2026 notice confirms a 100-mark CBT with the qualifying marks above. Previous technical and tradesman rallies used the section split below, and you should prepare on this basis until the admit card or a corrigendum says otherwise.

What this means for you:

  • Every section counts equally: No single subject carries the paper, so a weak section costs as much as a strong one gains.

  • Time is generous: Earlier rallies allowed 2 hours for 100 questions, so accuracy matters more than speed.

  • Negative marking is not settled: Earlier cycles had none, but some 2026 summaries mention a deduction. Check the official notice before deciding how much to guess.

Older pages may still describe an offline written exam, so follow the 2026 notification. See the full Assam Rifles exam pattern for details.

Syllabus Summary

The notification does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The list below is based on previous rallies and the level of questions asked, so treat it as a working checklist.

On top of basic pay, personnel get dearness allowance and other allowances admissible to Assam Rifles personnel, along with ration, accommodation and medical facilities as per rules. In-hand pay depends on the posting location and allowances, so any in-hand figure you see online is an estimate, not an official number.

How to Prepare

Preparation for this rally has three parallel tracks: fitness for the PST and PET, the written CBT, and revision of your trade for the skill test. Ignoring any one of them can end your selection, even if the other two are strong.

  • Fitness first: Run four to five days a week and time your 5 km runs. The rally comes before the CBT, so this is your first filter.

  • Build the four CBT sections: Spend more time on Quant and Reasoning, where steady practice gives the fastest gains. Keep 30 minutes a day for current affairs and static GK.

  • Revise your trade: Go back to your ITI or diploma notes, tools, measurements and safety rules. Practise hands-on tasks if you can access a workshop.

  • Keep documents ready: Matriculation certificate, trade certificates, domicile or PRC, caste or EWS certificate and, where needed, a driving licence or experience certificate.

Practise with Mock Tests

Assam Rifles does not publish an official mock test for this rally, so keep an eye on the official Assam Rifles website for any practice link or CBT instructions released with the admit card. Until then, full-length timed tests in the four-section format are the closest preparation.
