Assam Rifles Eligibility Criteria 2026: Age, Education, Height

Assam Rifles is recruiting 354 Riflemen, Havildars and Warrant Officers in technical and tradesman posts through its 2026 recruitment rally. Before you apply between 28 September and 28 October 2026, you need to check four things: your age as on 1 July 2026, the trade-specific qualification, the physical standards and your domicile documents.

This guide sets out the Assam Rifles eligibility criteria 2026 post by post, with age limits, relaxations, educational qualifications, physical standards and the most common reasons candidates are rejected. It also covers eligibility for Rifleman (General Duty) through SSC GD and the compassionate ground scheme, since many aspirants confuse these routes with the technical rally.

Assam Rifles Age Limit 2026

Age is calculated as on 1 July 2026. The upper limit depends on the rank of the post you apply for.

Points candidates often miss

  • Duration of the ITI course: Most technical trades need a course of at least two years. A one-year ITI certificate does not meet this condition for those posts.

  • Trade name must match: A diploma in a closely related field is accepted only if the notification lists it for that post. Do not assume equivalence.

  • Experience must be documented: For Operation Theatre Technician and Physiotherapist, carry an experience certificate showing the hospital or centre and the period worked.

  • Licence must be valid on the day: For Recovery Vehicle Mechanic, the heavy vehicle licence must be valid when documents are checked.

  • Results must be declared: You need your final mark sheet and certificate for the qualifying course when documents are verified. Check the notification for the exact cut-off date for holding the qualification.

Physical Standards

Physical standards are checked at the rally through an RFID-based Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test. Both are qualifying.

Height and chest

Category or region

Minimum height

Chest (normal / expanded)

All India (general standard)

170 cm

80 cm / 85 cm

Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from the North Eastern states, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh (as listed)

165 cm

78 cm / 83 cm

Scheduled Tribes

162.5 cm

76 cm / 81 cm

The chest must expand by at least 5 cm. Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards. Regional height relaxation applies only to the communities and areas named in the notification, and you may be asked to show a certificate supporting your claim.

Distance

Time limit

All India except Ladakh

Ladakh region only

1.6 km

7 minutes

Some older pages still list 6 minutes 30 seconds for Ladakh and include standards for women. Those figures belong to earlier rallies, so follow the 2026 notification.

Medical Fitness

Candidates who clear the CBT and trade test go through a Detailed Medical Examination. You must be in good physical and mental health and free from any defect likely to interfere with duties in a field force. The notification states that physically handicapped candidates are not eligible.

Common medical issues that lead to rejection in armed forces recruitment include poor eyesight beyond the permitted standard, colour blindness, flat feet, knock knees, varicose veins, and hearing or dental problems. Get a basic check-up before the rally so you have time to address anything correctable. Candidates declared unfit can apply for a Review Medical Examination within the time allowed.
