Bihar STET Syllabus 2026: Paper 1 and 2 Guide
The Bihar STET syllabus 2026 follows a fixed two-unit structure for both papers. Unit I tests the subject you want to teach, and Unit II tests teaching ability and general competencies. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) publishes subject-wise syllabus PDFs alongside notification P.R. 183/2026, and the board's structure of 100 plus 50 marks is the part you can rely on completely.
This page gives you a working checklist for the complete Bihar STET syllabus: the paper structure, the Unit II topics that every candidate must cover, the subject lists for Paper 1 and Paper 2, and a phased plan to finish it. Topic lists for Unit II sections other than Art of Teaching are built from the official structure and previous question papers, so use them as a checklist and confirm your own subject against the official syllabus PDF.

Key Points to Know Before You Start
Same structure for both papers: Paper 1 (Classes 9 and 10) and Paper 2 (Classes 11 and 12) share the 100 plus 50 split. Only the subject content changes.
Two thirds of the marks come from your subject: The 100-mark subject block decides most results, so it needs the most study time.
Unit II is common: The same Art of Teaching, General Knowledge, Environmental Science, Mathematical Aptitude and Reasoning syllabus applies to every subject and both papers.
Subject syllabus is published as PDFs: The board releases one document per subject. Download the one that matches your subject code.
Old pages mislead: Several older pages still describe a Child Development and Pedagogy section or a Language section. Those are not part of the 2026 structure, so follow the official notification.
Unit I: Concerned Subject Syllabus
Unit I contains 100 questions from the subject you chose while applying. The questions are set at the level of the qualification required for the paper. Paper 1 subjects are based on school and graduation-level content, and Paper 2 subjects are based on post-graduation-level content in the same subject.
The board publishes the detailed topic list for each subject as a separate syllabus document, so we do not reproduce every topic here. Instead, use this order of work for any subject:
Download the official subject PDF: Treat it as your master checklist and tick topics as you finish them.
Split it into units: Divide the PDF into 8 to 12 study units so progress is visible.
Anchor each unit to a source: Use the standard textbooks for your level, and for Paper 1 add the NCERT and Bihar Board textbooks of Classes 9 to 12 in your subject.
Mark high-frequency areas: After solving previous year papers, mark the topics that repeat.
Paper 1 Subjects (Classes 9 and 10)
Paper 1 offers 16 subjects, each with its own code on the application form.
Code | Subject | Code | Subject |
|---|---|---|---|
101 | Hindi | 109 | English |
102 | Urdu | 110 | Mathematics |
103 | Bangla | 111 | Science |
104 | Maithili | 112 | Social Science |
105 | Sanskrit | 113 | Physical Education |
106 | Arabic | 114 | Music |
107 | Farsi | 115 | Fine Arts |
108 | Bhojpuri | 116 | Dance |
For the large subjects, plan your study around the structure of the school curriculum. Mathematics covers number systems, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and statistics. Science covers physics, chemistry and biology. Social Science covers history, geography, political science and economics. Language subjects cover grammar, literature and the history of the language. Check each against the official PDF for the exact scope.
Paper 2 Subjects (Classes 11 and 12)
Paper 2 offers a wider spread, with codes running from 201 to 229. The subjects reported for Paper 2 include the following groups. Confirm the exact code for your subject in the notification, because the numbering does not match Paper 1.
Group | Subjects |
|---|---|
Languages | Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Maithili, Sanskrit, Magahi, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic, Farsi, Bhojpuri, English |
Sciences | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology |
Humanities and social sciences | History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Home Science |
Professional and others | Commerce, Computer Science, Agriculture, Music |
A Paper 2 subject goes deeper than the Paper 1 version of the same subject. If you plan to appear in both papers in a subject like History or Mathematics, study the Paper 2 depth first, since it covers most of what Paper 1 needs.
Unit II: Art of Teaching Syllabus
Art of Teaching carries 30 marks and is the largest part of Unit II. It is the most predictable scoring area because the topic list is short and the questions are conceptual.
Topic | What to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Teaching and learning | Meaning, process, characteristics, principles | Difference between teaching and learning |
Objectives of teaching | Teaching and instructional objectives, types, Bloom's taxonomy | Levels of Bloom's taxonomy |
Teaching methods | Types of methods, characteristics, merits and demerits | Lecture, discussion, demonstration, project |
Lesson plan | Types, format and different models | Steps of a lesson plan |
Microteaching and instructional analysis | Cycle of microteaching, skills, analysis of instruction | Microteaching cycle |
Classroom ecosystem | Effective classroom environment and management | Classroom management techniques |
Textbook and library | Qualities of a good textbook, role of the library | Criteria for a good textbook |
Qualities of a teacher | Professional, personal and ethical qualities | Characteristics of an effective teacher |
Evaluation and assessment for learning | Formative and summative assessment, tools and techniques | Formative versus summative |
Curriculum | Meaning, principles, curriculum development | Principles of curriculum construction |
Factors affecting teaching and learning | Learner, teacher, environment and content factors | Motivation and attention |
Teaching aids and hands-on learning | Types of aids, selection and use, practical work | Audio-visual aids |
With 30 questions across 12 topics, expect two to three questions from each. Teaching methods, Bloom's taxonomy, assessment and lesson planning appear most often, so build strong notes on those four first.
Unit II: General Knowledge, Environmental Science, Mathematical Aptitude and Reasoning
These four sections carry 5 questions each, or 20 marks together. They are small, but they separate close scores. The official structure names the sections without a detailed topic list, so the topics below come from previous question papers and are indicative.
Section | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge | Bihar and India: history, geography, polity, economy; national and international events; awards; sports; current affairs of the last 12 months | Bihar basics and monthly current affairs |
Environmental Science | Ecosystems, pollution, biodiversity, natural resources, conservation, climate change, sustainable use | NCERT environment chapters |
Mathematical Aptitude | Percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, time and work, simple and compound interest, number series | Percentage and ratio |
Logical Reasoning | Series, analogy, coding-decoding, classification, direction sense, blood relations, syllogism | Series and analogy |
The 2026 exam analysis from the first day reported moderate difficulty in mathematical aptitude and logical reasoning, with candidates attempting about two or three questions each. A steady daily practice routine for 20 minutes is enough to move these from guesses to certain marks.
High-Weight Areas and Where to Spend Your Time
Marks are not spread evenly across the syllabus, and your time should not be either. The table shows how a 12-week effort is best divided, based on the marks each block carries.
Block | Marks | Share of your time | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
Concerned subject | 100 | About 60% | Two thirds of the paper, and the widest syllabus |
Art of Teaching | 30 | About 20% | Short, conceptual and highly scorable |
General Knowledge and Environmental Science | 10 | About 10% | Needs regular reading rather than long study |
Mathematical Aptitude and Reasoning | 10 | About 10% | Needs daily practice, not theory |
Inside the subject block, give the first pass to topics that appear in every year's paper, and the second pass to the rest of the syllabus. Inside Unit II, Art of Teaching is the only section where a week of focused study can lift your score by several marks.
Subject-Wise Study Approach
Different subjects reward different habits. Choose the approach that matches your own.
Mathematics and science subjects: Practise problems daily. Reading a solution is not the same as solving one, so keep a notebook of formulas and attempt timed sets.
History, geography, political science and economics: Build short notes with dates, definitions and comparisons. Revise them every week, and connect Bihar-specific facts to national events.
Language subjects: Cover grammar rules, literary periods, authors and works in separate lists. Language questions are often direct, so accuracy on facts matters more than long reading.
Commerce, computer science and agriculture: Mix concepts with applications. Solve questions that apply a rule to a case, since they carry more weight than definitions.
Overlap Between Paper 1 and Paper 2
If you are qualified for both papers, you can study many areas once and use them twice.
Area | Paper 1 | Paper 2 | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Art of Teaching | 30 marks | 30 marks | Identical syllabus, study once |
General Knowledge, Environmental Science, Mathematical Aptitude, Reasoning | 20 marks | 20 marks | Identical syllabus, study once |
Concerned subject | 100 marks at school and graduation level | 100 marks at post-graduation level | Study the Paper 2 depth first, then revise Paper 1 scope |
This means half of the work for a second paper is already done. The extra effort sits entirely in the subject block.
Is There an Interview or Descriptive Paper?
No. Bihar STET is a single objective paper for each level, and there is no interview, descriptive paper, skill test or physical test. The result depends only on your score in the 150-question computer-based test and the qualifying percentage for your category.
How to Cover the Bihar STET Syllabus
A syllabus is only useful when it turns into a schedule. This plan assumes about 12 weeks and can be compressed or stretched.
Weeks 1 to 2, set up: Download your subject PDF, split it into units, collect textbooks and read the Art of Teaching topics once to know what is coming.
Weeks 3 to 8, build the subject: Cover about two units of your subject per week, and finish one Art of Teaching topic every few days. Add 30 to 40 minutes of daily current affairs from week 3.
Weeks 9 to 10, practise by topic: Take topic tests for each subject unit and 20-minute sectional tests for reasoning and mathematical aptitude. Maintain an error log.
Weeks 11 to 12, simulate the exam: Attempt full-length papers of 150 questions in 150 minutes, analyse each the same day and revise from the error log.
