Bihar STET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
Paper 1 (Classes 9 and 10): A bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, plus a B.Ed. degree. A four-year integrated B.A.Ed. or B.Sc.Ed. in the subject is also accepted.
Paper 2 (Classes 11 and 12): A master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, plus a B.Ed. degree. The B.Ed. is reported as not required for Computer Science. A three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. is accepted with its own marks condition.
Relaxation: Candidates from SC, ST, EBC, BC and Divyang categories get a 5% relaxation in the required marks, which brings the cut to 45%.
You can apply for both papers if you meet the qualification for both. Check your degree against the notification PDF before choosing, because the subject must match the paper you select.
Age limit
The minimum age is 21 years for all candidates. Age is counted as on 1 August 2026.
Category | Maximum age |
|---|---|
Unreserved male | 37 years |
Unreserved female | 40 years |
BC and EBC | 40 years |
SC and ST | 42 years |
Divyang candidates and ex-servicemen get further relaxation as stated in the notification. Read the official notice for the exact rule that applies to you. For a fuller breakdown, see the Bihar STET eligibility page.
Application Fee and How to Apply
The application window is now closed, but the fee structure and the steps below remain useful for the next cycle and for candidates checking their own records.
Category | One paper | Both papers |
|---|---|---|
General, BC, EBC, EWS | Rs. 960 | Rs. 1,440 |
SC, ST, Divyang | Rs. 760 | Rs. 1,140 |
The fee is paid online by debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Applications without the fee are rejected.
Register on the official STET registration portal and note your User ID and password.
Fill in personal, category and educational details exactly as they appear on your marksheets.
Select the paper and the subject code carefully, as the notification offers no correction window for subject choice.
Upload a recent photograph and your signature in the specified size.
Preview the form, pay the fee online and submit.
Download the confirmation page and keep a copy.
Keep your matriculation certificate, intermediate, graduation, post-graduation and B.Ed. marksheets ready, along with caste or EWS and domicile certificates if you claim a benefit. Typical rejection reasons are a wrong category tick, more than one application, a mismatched subject and a signature typed in capital letters.
Paper 1 or Paper 2: Which One Should You Choose?
The choice follows your qualification, not your preference. Paper 1 suits graduates with a B.Ed. who want to teach Classes 9 and 10. Paper 2 suits post-graduates with a B.Ed. who want to teach Classes 11 and 12. If you qualify for both, appearing in both is possible and the certificate in each paper is valid for life.
Feature | Paper 1 | Paper 2 |
|---|---|---|
Level | Secondary, Classes 9 and 10 | Higher secondary, Classes 11 and 12 |
Minimum qualification | Bachelor's degree with 50% and B.Ed. | Master's degree with 50% and B.Ed. |
Subjects offered | 16 subjects, codes 101 to 116 | About 29 subjects, codes 201 to 229 |
Pattern | 150 questions, 150 marks | 150 questions, 150 marks |
Fee for one paper (General) | Rs. 960 | Rs. 960 |
Because the Unit II syllabus is identical, a second paper adds only the subject block to your workload. That is why many candidates with a post-graduate degree in a subject offered in both papers choose to sit both.
Bihar STET 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
Both papers follow the same structure. Each has two units, and every question carries one mark.
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Unit I: Concerned subject | 100 | 100 |
Unit II: Art of Teaching | 30 | 30 |
Unit II: General Knowledge | 5 | 5 |
Unit II: Environmental Science | 5 | 5 |
Unit II: Mathematical Aptitude | 5 | 5 |
Unit II: Logical Reasoning | 5 | 5 |
Total | 150 | 150 |
There is no negative marking, so a wrong answer costs nothing. The paper is held in multiple shifts, and results are declared after normalisation, so your raw score may differ slightly from your final score.
What this means for you:
Subject first: Two thirds of the marks come from your own subject, so depth here decides the result.
Art of Teaching is the biggest scoring block outside it: At 30 marks, it is worth more than the other four Unit II sections combined.
Attempt everything: With no penalty and about one minute per question, leave no question blank.
Older pages may still show a different pattern, so follow the official notification. The Bihar STET exam pattern page explains each section in more detail.
Exam Analysis for 25 October 2026
Candidate feedback on the first day described the paper as a balanced mix of easy, moderate and tricky questions, with overall difficulty between easy and moderate. The figures below are reported attempts, not official numbers.
Section | Good attempts | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
Concerned subject | 75 to 78 | Moderate |
Art of Teaching | 20 to 22 | Moderate |
General Knowledge | 3 to 4 | Easy to moderate |
Environmental Science | 3 to 4 | Easy to moderate |
Mathematical Aptitude | 2 to 3 | Moderate |
Logical Reasoning | 2 to 3 | Moderate |
Total | 102 to 114 | Easy to moderate |
Difficulty varies by subject and shift, so treat this as a guide to the shape of the paper rather than a prediction for your own sitting.
Bihar STET Syllabus Summary

Qualifying Marks and Selection Process
STET is a qualifying test. You clear it by scoring the minimum percentage for your category, and there is no merit list or interview.
Category | Qualifying percentage | Marks out of 150 |
|---|---|---|
General | 50% | 75 |
Backward Class | 45.5% | 68.25 |
Extremely Backward Class | 42.5% | 63.75 |
SC, ST and Divyang | 40% | 60 |
Women (all categories) | 40% | 60 |
These are the percentages reported for the 2026 cycle and match the previous cycle. Cut-offs are benchmarks that depend on the board's notification, so aim for a clear margin above them. For last year's outcome, the 2025 result was declared on 5 January 2026 with an overall pass rate of 57.96%, and Paper 2 saw 1,02,156 of 1,95,799 candidates qualify. See the Bihar STET cut-off page for category-wise details.
Why Bihar STET Matters for Your Teaching Career
Bihar fills secondary and higher secondary teacher posts through state recruitment, and an eligibility certificate is the first requirement. Without it, you cannot apply for those posts, however strong your degree. The test also gives you a score that you can compare against the qualifying marks, which tells you how far you are from the cut before recruitment notifications arrive.
The certificate carries lifetime validity, so a good attempt now keeps working for future cycles. Candidates who clear the test early in their preparation can spend the remaining time on recruitment exams rather than retaking eligibility.
After STET: Certificate and Teacher Recruitment
After the result, candidates download their scorecard and certificate from the official portal. The certificate is valid for life, so you do not need to reappear unless you want a better score or a second subject. Appointments themselves come through separate recruitment notifications, where the STET certificate is a prerequisite for secondary and higher secondary posts.
The test carries no pay of its own. Salary depends on the post and the notification you later apply for, so check that notice for pay and service terms. Keep your marksheets and certificates organised, because document verification is part of the recruitment stage.
How to Prepare for Bihar STET
Preparation works best in layers. Start with the 100-mark subject block, because it carries the most weight and takes the longest to build. Then add the 50-mark Unit II sections, which reward steady revision.
Weeks 1 to 8: Cover your subject syllabus topic by topic from standard textbooks, and read the Art of Teaching topics once.
From week 3: Add 30 to 40 minutes of daily current affairs and Bihar general knowledge, with short monthly notes.
From week 6: Take topic tests and 20-minute sectional tests for your subject and for reasoning and mathematical aptitude.
Final phase: Attempt full-length mocks of 150 questions in 150 minutes, analyse them the same day and revise from an error log.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt Bihar STET online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision.
For official updates on dates, admit cards and results, keep checking bsebstet.org and the STET registration portal.
