SSC MTS is one of the few central government recruitments open to candidates who have only passed Class 10. Every year, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) uses it to fill Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff posts in ministries and departments across India, along with Havaldar posts in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).

SSC MTS 2026 Notification Status

The SSC examination calendar for 2026-27 listed 30 June 2026 as the notification date for SSC MTS, with the exam planned for September to November 2026. That date has passed, and as of late September 2026 the notification has not been released.

Until it is out, the 2025 notification is the most reliable guide. Eligibility, the exam pattern and the syllabus have stayed stable across recent cycles, so you can prepare now with confidence. Exact dates, vacancies and any rule changes should be confirmed on ssc.gov.in once the 2026 notice is published.

In the 2025 cycle, SSC's revised vacancy notice split the posts as follows. The 2026 vacancies will be announced with the new notification.

SSC MTS Eligibility in Brief

To apply for SSC MTS, you must meet three basic conditions:

• Nationality: Be an Indian citizen, or belong to one of the other eligible categories (such as subjects of Nepal or Bhutan).

• Education: Have passed Class 10 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board by the cut-off date.

• Age: Be 18 to 25 years old for most MTS posts, or 18 to 27 years old for Havaldar and a few MTS posts, on the crucial date (1 August in recent cycles). SC and ST candidates get 5 years of relaxation, OBC candidates 3 years, and PwBD candidates 10 to 15 years.

SSC MTS Selection Process

There is no interview. Final selection depends on Session II marks of the CBE, your post and State/UT preferences, and your age group. Candidates who do not clear the Havaldar PET/PST can still be considered for MTS posts on the basis of their CBE merit.

SSC MTS Exam Pattern in Brief

The CBE has two compulsory sessions of 45 minutes each.

Each question carries 3 marks. Session I is qualifying: Session II is evaluated only for candidates who clear it, and the final merit list is based on Session II alone. For marking examples, qualifying marks and a time plan.

SSC MTS Syllabus in Brief

The syllabus is set at Class 10 level and covers four subjects:

• Numerical and Mathematical Ability: Number system, percentages, profit and loss, discount, ratio, averages, simple interest, time and work, speed and distance, mensuration and simple data interpretation.

• Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving: Series, analogy, classification, coding-decoding, directions, calendar and clock, and non-verbal reasoning.

• General Awareness: General science, history, geography, polity, economy, current affairs and static GK.

• English Language and Comprehension: Vocabulary, grammar, error spotting, fill in the blanks, cloze test and reading comprehension.

Havaldar Physical Standards

Relaxations apply to Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and members of Scheduled Tribes.

How to Apply for SSC MTS

Applications are accepted only online through ssc.gov.in or the mySSC app.

1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in if you have not already done so.

2. Log in and open the SSC MTS and Havaldar application once the notification is live.

3. Fill in your educational details, category, post and State/UT preferences, and exam centre choices.

4. Capture a live photograph and upload your signature as instructed.

5. Pay the fee of Rs. 100 online, unless you are exempt, and download the submitted form.

Use exactly the same name and date of birth as on your Class 10 certificate.

How to Prepare for SSC MTS 2026

• Start with the selection rules: Clear Session I safely, then give most of your effort to General Awareness and English, which decide merit.

• Build GA from NCERT: Class 6 to 10 NCERT science and social science books cover most static questions.

• Read daily: A short newspaper article each day improves both current affairs and English comprehension.

• Practise under time: Solve previous year papers and full-length mocks in two separate 45-minute sessions.

• Control negative marking: In Session II, attempt a question only if you can eliminate at least one option.
