Application Fee and How to Apply

The fee is Rs. 100. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates eligible for reservation are exempt. Corrections in the window cost Rs. 200 for the first change and Rs. 500 for the second.

  1. Register once: Complete One Time Registration on ssc.gov.in or the mySSC app. Aadhaar authentication is advised.

  2. Fill the form: Use the name and date of birth exactly as printed on the matriculation certificate.

  3. Capture a live photo: The form takes the photo through the camera. Do not wear a cap, mask or glasses.

  4. Upload the signature: JPEG format, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm.

  5. Pay and submit: Pay the fee if you are not exempt, preview the form and keep a copy.

Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications lead to rejection and possible debarment. Applications for the 2025 cycle have closed, so use these steps as a guide for the next notice.

Selection Process

  1. Computer Based Examination (100 marks): Conducted by SSC. Candidates within 20 times the number of vacancies in each category are shortlisted for PE&MT.

  2. Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (qualifying): Conducted by Delhi Police in Delhi. Race, long jump, high jump, then height and chest.

  3. Typing Test on Computer (25 marks): Ten minutes, with marks based on speed. These marks count toward the final merit.

  4. Computer (Formatting) Test (qualifying): MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel, ten minutes each.

  5. Police verification and medical examination: For provisionally selected candidates.

Typing marks depend on net speed after deducting one word per mistake. Speed is judged over a ten-minute passage.

The formatting test has 20 features per application at half a mark each, and candidates need at least 6 out of 10 in each of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

The final merit list is built from CBE marks (100), Typing Test marks (25) and bonus marks, if any. NCC certificate holders get 5 percent (C), 3 percent (B) or 2 percent (A) of the maximum marks. A 15 percent reserve panel is also prepared.

Delhi Police Head Constable Exam Pattern

The CBE is one objective paper of 100 questions, 100 marks and 90 minutes, in English and Hindi. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.

What this means for you:

  • Each section has a different weight: General Intelligence and English together carry half the paper, so they deserve the most daily time.

  • A wrong answer costs a quarter mark: Four wrong answers wipe out one correct one. Guess only after eliminating options.

  • Ninety minutes for 100 questions: You have under a minute per question, so practise sectional timing early.

  • Marks beyond the cut-off matter: The typing test adds up to 25 marks, so a strong written score plus fast typing separates close candidates.

To qualify, General and EWS candidates need 40 percent, SC/ST/OBC candidates 35 percent, and PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates 30 percent. SSC normalises scores across shifts. Several pages still show 0.50 negative marking or none at all. The official notice says 0.25, so follow it.

SSC publishes an indicative syllabus in the notice.

Salary and Job Profile

The post sits in Pay Level-4 of the pay matrix, with a pay range of Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100. Selected candidates complete a residential basic training course at Delhi Police Academy, notified as six months (5+1). The notice does not state an in-hand salary, because allowances depend on posting and city. A Head Constable (Ministerial) mainly handles office and records work, and the post is not field-duty heavy.

How to Prepare

The written paper is short and fast, so accuracy and speed decide the outcome. Plan around the stages.

  • Start with scoring sections: Reasoning and English carry 50 of 100 marks. Daily practice here gives the steadiest return.

  • Do not skip the computer section: Ten questions on Word, Excel and email are often the easiest marks.

  • Build typing early: Aim well above 30 words per minute in English, because the typing marks are 25 and count in the final merit.

  • Train for the physical test: The race and jumps are qualifying but eliminate candidates, so prepare alongside the written syllabus.

  • Read news daily: Keep short notes for General Awareness and revise them each week.

Cut-off, Result and Answer Key

SSC declares the CBE result on ssc.gov.in with category-wise cut-off marks for shortlisting. The Commission also uploads tentative answer keys and later the final keys, question papers and individual marks. Objections to a tentative key cost Rs. 50 per question. Admit cards for the CBE are issued on the SSC website, and admit cards for PE&MT are issued by Delhi Police.

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. For official updates, visit ssc.gov.in and delhipolice.gov.in.

The AWO/TPO Head Constable post is recruited under a separate SSC notice with its own pattern. Read its notice before using any figure from this page.
