BPSC TRE 4.0 Exam Pattern 2026: Prelims and Mains Structure
BPSC TRE 4.0 Selection Process
BPSC TRE 4.0 is a two-stage written examination with no interview:
- Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (qualifying/screening)
- Stage 2: Main Examination (determines final merit)
- Stage 3: Document Verification
Preliminary Examination Pattern
| Particular | Details |
|---|---|
| Questions | 150 |
| Marks | 150 |
| Type | Objective / MCQ |
| Subject | General Studies |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Negative Marking | 1/3 mark |
| Nature | Qualifying / Screening |
The Preliminary Exam is used only to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination and does not count toward final merit.
The A-E Answer Option Rule
BPSC TRE 4.0 uses five answer options: A, B, C, D and E. Option E means the candidate does not want to answer the question. If a candidate leaves a question completely unmarked instead of selecting the prescribed E option, a negative mark can apply.
| Response | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct answer | +1 |
| Wrong answer | -1/3 |
| Blank without selecting option E | -1/3 |
Candidates should always select option E rather than leaving a question blank, since an unmarked question without the E response can also attract a negative mark.
Prelims Qualifying Marks
| Category | Minimum Qualifying % |
|---|---|
| General | 40% |
| BC | 36.5% |
| EBC | 34% |
| SC/ST/Women/Divyang | 32% |
Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Examination category-wise, with the number shortlisted reported as approximately 2.5 to 10 times the advertised vacancies, depending on the applicable criteria and cut-offs.
Main Examination Pattern
The Main Examination is also objective, and each relevant paper is structured around 150 marks.
