CA Final Eligibility 2026: Criteria and Rules
CA Final eligibility depends on four things: clearing CA Intermediate, registering for the Final course, completing practical training (articleship) and finishing the courses and modules ICAI requires for your batch. The exact dates differ by training stream and by exam session, so this page explains the rules and shows the November 2026 position.
The criteria below are based on ICAI's requirements for the Final examination as reported at the time of writing (21 October 2026). Cycle-specific dates are taken from summaries of the ICAI requirements notice and are marked as reported. Always confirm your own status on the ICAI Self Service Portal (SSP) before you apply.

Educational Qualification
You must have passed CA Intermediate to register for and sit CA Final. Students reach Intermediate through the CA Foundation route or through the direct entry route for eligible graduates and postgraduates, and both routes then lead to the same Intermediate and Final stages.
Under the new scheme, Intermediate has to be cleared before you register for Final. If you are an older-scheme student, ICAI allows a move to the new scheme through the SSP. The conversion has been reported as free of cost, so check the current instruction on the SSP.
Registration for the Final Course
After clearing Intermediate, you register for the Final course through ICAI. Your SSP profile must show a current registration and the right course code, because the exam form picks up details from it. Photograph and signature on the SSP should meet ICAI's print-quality guidelines, since the marksheet and certificate are generated from them.
Practical Training (Articleship)
Practical training is compulsory and its length depends on your scheme and stream. For the November 2026 attempt, the requirements are reported as follows. These come from ICAI's Requirements for Applying document as summarised by third parties, so confirm them in your ICAI notice.
Stream | Reported requirement for November 2026 |
|---|---|
3 or 3.5 year training | Completed (including excess leave) by the date you fill the form, or completed by 31 October 2026 |
3-year Intermediate, IPCC or IIPCE stream | In service on 1 November 2026 for the last 6 months, completing by 30 April 2027 |
3-year PE-II stream | In service on 1 November 2026 for the last 12 months, completing by 31 October 2027 |
2-year training (new scheme) | Training and excess leave completed by 30 April 2026 |
If your articleship was terminated, re-register at once for the balance period so your training status shows correctly. Your SSP articleship status should read "Registered" before you apply, and any other status must be corrected first.
Advanced ICITSS and SPOM
Advanced ICITSS
Advanced ICITSS (the Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills) is compulsory for sitting CA Final. For November 2026 it was reported to be required by 10 October 2026. Some candidates who converted from the old course and appeared at least once may complete it later, but before applying for ICAI membership, as ICAI notifies.
Self-Paced Online Modules (SPOM)
SPOM are online modules with a test. Which sets apply depends on when you were admitted to Final and on your Intermediate result, so there is no single rule.
Admitted from November 2024 onwards: The applicable sets (A, B, C and/or D) are to be qualified by 10 October 2026 for the November 2026 attempt (reported).
Admitted earlier: Some sets are exempt, and the rest may be needed before membership, depending on the groups you cleared.
Age Limit, Attempts and Other Conditions
Age: No maximum age limit is reported for CA Final.
Number of attempts: No fixed cap on attempts is reported, but your Final registration has a validity period. Check it on the SSP before planning your attempts.
Medium and centre: You choose English or Hindi and an exam centre in the exam form.
One or both groups: You can apply for one group or both groups in an attempt.
Common Reasons for Being Ineligible
Training not complete: The articleship end date falls after the ICAI cut-off for the session.
Wrong SSP status: Articleship status not showing as "Registered", or an expired registration.
Modules pending: Advanced ICITSS or required SPOM sets not completed by the date.
Old course not migrated: Details not updated to the course code ICAI requires.
Eligibility rules can change between sessions, and the May 2027 cut-off dates have not been announced at the time of writing. Treat any date here as tentative for future attempts, and use the ICAI examinations page and the ICAI Self Service Portal for the current requirements.
