CBSE Superintendent Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification

CBSE Superintendent eligibility rests on four checks: Indian citizenship, a bachelor's degree, an age between 18 and 30 years on the cut-off date, and computer and typing skills. The Central Board of Secondary Education set these conditions for the Group B Superintendent post (Post Code 06/25) in its Direct Recruitment Quota (DRQ) 2026 notification of 2 December 2025.

The dates that matter most are the closing date of 22 December 2025, which is both the age reference date and the deadline for holding your degree. This page explains each condition, the category-wise age relaxation, who cannot apply, the fee and documents, and how the rules compare with the earlier cycle and with the Junior Assistant post.

Educational Qualification

You need a bachelor's degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. The notice does not limit the discipline, so graduates in arts, science, commerce, engineering or any other stream can apply.

When You Must Hold the Degree

  • Degree in hand by the closing date: You must possess the essential qualification when you submit the online application.

  • Result declared by 22 December 2025: The notice says the result must be declared on or before the closing date.

  • Final-year students cannot apply: Candidates appearing in the final year, or whose final result is awaited, are told not to apply.

Percentage and Recognition

  • No minimum percentage: The notice does not set a minimum percentage or CGPA for the degree. A pass is enough.

  • Recognised university: The university must be recognised, and an equivalent qualification is accepted. Keep proof of recognition ready if your degree is from an open or distance university.

  • Original certificates at verification: Your degree certificate and mark sheets are checked against originals at document verification, so details in the form must match them exactly.

Computer Knowledge and Typing Speed

These are part of the essential qualification, not optional extras. The notice lists working knowledge of computer applications such as Windows, MS Office, handling large databases and the internet.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 18 years and not more than 30 years old as on 22 December 2025. Working that through, a general category candidate should have been born on or after 23 December 1995 and on or before 22 December 2007.

The maximum-age column is worked out by adding the relaxation to 30 years. The notice does not say how relaxations combine beyond the PwBD rows, which already include women, so do not assume you can add them up. Category relaxation also needs the right certificate: an OBC (NCL) or EWS certificate older than one year at verification must be replaced with a current one.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.

  • One application per post: Only one application is allowed for the Superintendent post. Multiple applications for the same post are rejected.

  • Applying for other DRQ posts: You may apply for more than one post if eligible, with a separate application and fee for each.

  • Category claims: Claims must be backed by certificates in the prescribed format at document verification. Without them, you are considered under UR if otherwise eligible.

  • Posting: Selected candidates can be posted to any office of the Board, including regional offices, the Centre of Excellence and sub-regional offices. Posting is not a matter of right.

  • Probation: Appointment is on probation as per applicable rules, which the competent authority can extend.

  • Scribe: PwBD candidates who need a scribe must submit the undertaking and certificate formats given in the notice.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Final-year students: Anyone without a declared degree result by the closing date.

  • Over-age candidates: Anyone above 30 years on the reference date after any relaxation that applies.

  • Non-graduate ex-servicemen: The notice says ex-servicemen who are not graduates are not eligible for Group B posts.

  • Unsupported category claims: A reserved-category candidate without a valid certificate is treated as UR, which can make an over-age candidate ineligible.

  • Non-citizens: The post is open only to Indian citizens.

Key Dates That Decide Eligibility

Most eligibility problems come from dates rather than from the qualification itself. The notice uses one date for several checks, so it helps to see them side by side.

Common Eligibility Mistakes

  • Applying with a result still pending: A provisional pass declared after the closing date does not count. Check the declaration date on your result before you apply.

  • Mismatched details: A name or date of birth that differs between the form and your certificates can lead to rejection at verification. Copy details exactly from your Class 10 and degree certificates.

  • Old category certificates: Using an OBC (NCL) or EWS certificate that is more than a year old at verification can cost you the category benefit.

  • Wrong category for the relaxation: OBC relaxation applies to the Central List non-creamy layer, not state lists alone.

  • Leaving typing for later: Many candidates clear Tier II and then struggle in the qualifying typing test. Build speed alongside written preparation.

Eligibility Self-Check Before You Apply

  1. Citizenship: Are you an Indian citizen?

  2. Degree: Was your bachelor's degree result declared by the closing date?

  3. Age: Were you between 18 and 30 on the reference date, or within your category's relaxed limit?

  4. Certificates: Do you have a valid category or PwBD certificate in the prescribed format, if you are claiming one?

  5. Skills: Are you comfortable with Windows and MS Office, and can you reach 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi by the skill test?

If every answer is yes, the next step is preparation.

Typing is the eligibility condition that candidates most often leave too late. Practise for 15 to 20 minutes a day from the start.
