Central Bank Apprentice 2026: Syllabus

Central Bank of India Apprentice syllabus should be read with the bank's FY 2026-27 notification. Apprenticeship is a time-bound training engagement, so its rules should not be borrowed from clerk or probationary-officer recruitment. This page separates verified examination requirements from a suggested preparation method. The study examples, revision intervals and mock schedules below are recommendations, not additional conditions imposed by the bank.

The original FY 2026-27 application dates have passed. This guide explains that verified notification; it does not advertise an open application window.

The official source names the examination tests. The topic-level lists on this page are an editorial working checklist based on those test domains; they are not a claim that the bank has issued an exhaustive chapter-wise syllabus. Use the notification and examination handout for any change in scope, language or procedure.

The total examination duration is 60 minutes. The FY 2026-27 notification specifies no negative marks for wrong answers in the objective tests. Central Bank of India Products & Services is a separate 20-mark test. A generic four-section bank mock misses this part of the examination.

Topic-by-topic working syllabus

Quantitative aptitude

Area

Working topic checklist

Practical starting point

Number foundations

Fractions, decimals, percentage conversions, ratio and proportion, averages

Convert common fractions without a calculator and explain what the base of each percentage represents.

Commercial arithmetic

Profit and loss, discounts, simple and compound interest, partnership

Write the quantities first; distinguish cost price from selling price and principal from amount.

Rates and movement

Time and work, pipes, speed, distance and time, trains, boats

Use consistent units and combine rates rather than adding times.

Data interpretation

Tables, bar charts, line charts and simple caselets

Read the title, units, dates and denominator before calculating; estimate to check the result.

Start with a base of 100 when a percentage relationship feels abstract, then repeat the same idea with another base. For a chart, distinguish a percentage change from a percentage share. For example, sales rising from 80 to 100 means a 25% increase, while 80 is 80% of 100. Write the denominator in your error log if you confuse the two. Build speed only after you can explain why the denominator is correct. A short daily calculation session can support this work, but memorised tables do not replace reading the problem carefully.

Reasoning ability

Area

Working topic checklist

Practical starting point

Basic logic

Inequalities, syllogisms, ranking, directions and blood relations

Translate each statement into a short diagram; do not add assumptions that the question does not provide.

Patterns

Number and letter series, coding-decoding, classification

Identify the operation or position change and test it against the whole sequence.

Arrangements

Linear and circular seating, ordering, scheduling and grouping puzzles

Place fixed clues first, record uncertain cases separately and check every final placement.

Mixed practice

Short reasoning sets with arithmetic and reading tasks

Practise changing question type without losing the conditions from the previous task.

Use a consistent diagram system. In an arrangement, place a fixed position first and keep alternative cases visibly separate. Cross out a case as soon as it contradicts a clue; do not keep repairing an impossible arrangement. In syllogisms, test what must follow rather than what sounds likely in real life. A statement about some members does not justify a conclusion about all members. After practice, identify the clue that made the set solvable, because that entry point is what you need to recognise faster next time.

General English

Area

Working topic checklist

Practical starting point

Reading

Short passages, main idea, inference, tone and evidence

Answer from the passage, distinguish a supported inference from an opinion and review why distractors fail.

Grammar

Subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles, prepositions and sentence correction

Learn the rule behind an error instead of memorising the option letter.

Vocabulary

Contextual meaning, synonyms, antonyms and commonly confused words

Keep the sentence in which you met the word; review meaning and usage together.

Coherence

Cloze tests, sentence ordering and connectors

Use pronouns, time sequence and cause-and-effect links to test the order.

Read one short passage actively each day. Write its central claim in a sentence and underline the evidence that supports an answer. When reviewing a grammar question, rewrite the whole corrected sentence and explain the rule. When learning a word, preserve its context and a contrasting example. This avoids memorising a meaning that does not fit the question. Timed practice should reward accurate reading; guessing from the first familiar word can produce a fast but unreliable score.

General and financial awareness

Area

Working topic checklist

Practical starting point

Banking foundations

RBI, types of banks, deposits, lending, interest and financial inclusion

Explain the role of an institution before learning the names of its officers.

Payments

UPI, NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, cards and basic digital-banking safety

Make a comparison sheet of purpose and terminology; recheck changing operational limits from official sources.

Economic news

Major policy announcements, budget themes, reports and government schemes

Record the institution, announcement date, purpose and one useful distinction.

Current affairs

National and international events relevant to banking and the economy

Use dated weekly notes and recall quizzes; avoid treating every headline as equally important.

Organise news by institution or theme. For a policy announcement, ask who issued it, what changed, when it applies and who is affected. Distinguish a scheme objective from its implementing organisation and a report publisher from the institution discussed in the report. Use official releases to settle disagreements between study sources. Revise through closed-note questions rather than repeatedly scanning a long monthly document. Keep changing rates or limits dated so that an old figure does not silently become a current claim.

Computer knowledge

Area

Working topic checklist

Practical starting point

Hardware and software

Input/output devices, memory, storage, operating systems and application software

Classify examples and know what a component does rather than learning abbreviations alone.

Office tools

Documents, spreadsheets, presentations, file formats and common shortcuts

Open a real file and practise the operation; functional understanding helps with unfamiliar wording.

Networks and internet

Browsers, email, URLs, basic networking and common internet terms

Distinguish a browser from a search engine, and a network from an individual device.

Security

Passwords, phishing, malware, backups and safe digital transactions

Use simple scenarios to identify the threat and the appropriate preventive action.

Use practical examples to separate related terms. A browser opens web pages, a search engine helps find them, and an operating system manages the device. For spreadsheets, understand cells, references, basic operations and file handling by trying them on a sample file. For security, explain why an action is unsafe rather than only naming a type of malware. Practical understanding makes it easier to answer a question whose wording differs from your notes.

Central Bank of India Products & Services

This named test deserves its own notebook and revision slot. Start with official descriptions of savings and current accounts, fixed and recurring deposits, retail loans, digital banking and financial-inclusion products. Record who a product serves, its main purpose, documents or conditions stated by the bank and the date on which you checked the information. These are suggested study categories; the notification does not guarantee a question from each one.

Do not memorise an old interest rate from a screenshot without a date. Rates, charges and product conditions can change. Keep stable concepts separate from changing numbers, and refresh the latter from the bank's official pages near the examination. Compare similar products in a two-column table so that you can identify the relevant feature quickly.

Where the preparation overlaps

Skill

Used in the test

Used later

Reading precisely

Passages, statements, chart labels and instructions

Understanding verification instructions and customer communication

Basic arithmetic

Percentages, ratios, rates and tables

Interpreting financial figures and checking calculations

Digital literacy

Computer terminology and operations

Using official portals and understanding digital banking

Language confidence

English tasks and local-language preparation

The separate local-language requirement where applicable

Overlap helps you revise efficiently, but it does not merge the selection stages. English test performance is not evidence that you satisfy the specified local-language condition. Likewise, a school certificate showing a language may establish an exemption only where the notification permits it; it does not replace other documents.

A phased preparation plan

Phase

Work to complete

Evidence that you can move on

Foundation

Read the notification, take a diagnostic test and rebuild arithmetic, grammar and basic logic.

You can explain the method behind routine questions without looking at a solution.

Topic practice

Alternate short timed sets with correction of weak topics. Keep daily awareness revision.

Accuracy remains stable when question order changes and the timer is running.

Mixed practice

Combine familiar and weak areas; begin examination-length simulations.

You can leave an expensive question and return without losing the rest of the paper.

Final revision

Revise error notes, dated facts, documents and the official examination instructions.

You can reproduce your test routine without new material or last-minute changes.

Treat this as a sequence rather than a compulsory number of weeks. A graduate who is returning to mathematics may need longer on fractions and ratios, while a recent banking-exam candidate may move sooner to mixed sets. Preserve a short revision slot even on busy days. A smaller completed task with correction is more useful than an ambitious timetable that leaves every error unresolved.

Use Testkart resources where a relevant listing is available, after checking the educator, contents, pattern and validity. A product should support a specific gap in your plan. For example, someone who understands percentages but reads charts slowly needs timed data interpretation and review, rather than another full beginner arithmetic course.

Checkpoints before full-length practice

  • Concept check: Solve a short fresh set without copying an example and explain the steps.

  • Recall check: Close your notes and write key definitions, relations or banking facts from memory.

  • Transfer check: Try the same idea in a differently worded question or an unfamiliar chart.

  • Timing check: Move from untimed correctness to a realistic mixed set without rushing the reading.

  • Correction check: Retest errors after a gap; a correction is complete only when the reasoning stays clear.

If you repeatedly fail a checkpoint, narrow the task. For example, practise only percentage-base identification before another large data-interpretation set. For English, review the grammatical rule and then find it in new sentences. For awareness, compare related institutions or schemes rather than rereading a long unstructured list.

A course that contains many hours of video but leaves a named examination test uncovered is an incomplete match.

Check the Central Bank of India careers page and the FY 2026-27 apprenticeship notification before relying on a rule from an older examination cycle.
