CISF Constable Syllabus 2026: GD and Tradesmen Topics

The CISF Constable syllabus depends on the route you choose. Constable (General Duty) candidates take the SSC GD computer-based examination, while Constable (Tradesmen) candidates take a separate written paper set by CISF, along with a trade test. Both papers are pitched at Matriculation level, so the topics are basic, but the competition is strong and speed matters.

The Staff Selection Commission and CISF name the sections in their notifications but do not publish a long topic-by-topic list. The topic lists on this page are built from the official section names and from the kind of questions asked in earlier papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. Where a rule is specific to one cycle, the cycle is stated.

Key Points to Know Before You Start

  • Two papers, one common core: Reasoning, General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics and language appear in both routes, so most of your preparation is shared.

  • Level is Class 10: Mathematics and language questions are basic, but they are timed, so practice speed matters more than advanced theory.

  • Tradesmen has an extra section: Ability to Observe and Distinguish is a figure-based section that GD candidates do not face.

  • Older pages can mislead: Some websites mix CISF Constable with CRPF, CISF Fire or other posts. Always match the section names with the notification of your route.

Constable/GD Syllabus (SSC GD)

The SSC GD paper has four parts of 20 questions each. Every part carries equal weight, so no single subject can carry you alone. Questions are available in English, Hindi and several regional languages.

Section

Topics to cover

Start with

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Analogies, similarities and differences, series (number, letter and figure), coding-decoding, classification, syllogism, directions, ranking, blood relations, Venn diagrams, non-verbal reasoning

Series, analogy and coding-decoding

General Knowledge and General Awareness

Current events, history, geography, Indian polity, economy, general science, sports, awards, books and authors, important days, India and its neighbours

Current events and static GK basics

Elementary Mathematics

Number system, fractions and decimals, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, time and work, time and distance, mensuration, basic data interpretation

Percentage, average and ratio

English or Hindi

Comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, error spotting, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, one-word substitution

Vocabulary and grammar rules

Reasoning and Mathematics reward steady practice. GK is the section where students lose marks most often, because the range is wide and the questions are factual. A daily 30-minute habit works better than long weekend sessions.

Constable/Tradesmen Syllabus

The Tradesmen paper has five sections of 20 questions each. The sections are named in the notification; the topics below are an exam-oriented checklist.

General Awareness

  • Current affairs: National and international events, government schemes, sports and awards.

  • Static GK: Indian history, geography, polity, economy and general science up to Class 10 level.

  • Everyday awareness: Health, environment, technology and important days.

Elementary Mathematics

  • Arithmetic: Percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, simple interest, time and work, time and distance.

  • Number work: Simplification, HCF and LCM, fractions, decimals.

  • Geometry basics: Perimeter, area and volume of simple shapes.

Analytical Aptitude

  • Logical reasoning: Series, analogy, coding-decoding, classification, direction sense and statement-based questions.

  • Problem solving: Simple puzzles and arrangement questions.

Ability to Observe and Distinguish

  • Pattern based questions: Spotting differences between figures, matching patterns and finding the odd figure.

  • Visual attention: Questions that test how carefully you read a diagram or picture.

Basic Knowledge of English or Hindi

  • Grammar: Tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, or the Hindi equivalents.

  • Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, idioms and one-word substitution.

  • Reading: Short passages and sentence correction.

Physical Test Checklist

Physical tests are qualifying stages, so they work like a second syllabus. Prepare for them along with the written paper.

  • PET for GD: Men run 5 km in 24 minutes and women run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes, as per the SSC GD 2026 notification. Ladakh has separate standards.

  • PET for Tradesmen: Men run 1.6 km in 6 minutes 30 seconds and women run 800 m in 4 minutes, as per the notification of the 2025 cycle.

  • PST: Height of 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women in the general category, plus chest measurement for men, with relaxations for categories and regions.

Trade Test and Medical Examination

The trade test applies only to Tradesmen. CISF does not publish a topic list for it, because the test checks practical skill in the trade you applied for, such as cooking, hair cutting, stitching or carpentry. It is qualifying in nature. The best preparation is regular hands-on practice and knowing the basic hygiene and tool-handling rules of your trade.

The medical examination has no syllabus, but you should check your vision, dental health and general fitness well before the tests. The detailed medical standards are in the official notification.

Neither route has a personal interview in the stages reported for these cycles, so the written paper and the physical stages decide your result.

How to Cover the Syllabus

A simple phased plan keeps preparation steady. Adjust the weeks to the time you have.

  1. Weeks 1 to 4, build the base: Learn basic arithmetic, grammar rules and reasoning patterns. Start a running routine and a daily 30-minute GK habit.

  2. Weeks 5 to 8, topic practice: Solve topic-wise questions every day and keep an error log of mistakes. Add the figure-based practice if you are a Tradesmen candidate.

  3. Weeks 9 to 12, sectional timing: Attempt 20-question sets against the clock, so you get used to the pace of 20 questions per section.

  4. Final weeks, full mocks: Take full-length tests in the exam pattern, analyse each result on the same day and revise only from your error log.
