Delhi Police Constable Eligibility 2026: Age, Education, Physical

Before you spend months preparing, check whether you meet the Delhi Police Constable eligibility conditions. They cover age, education, a driving licence rule for men, physical standards and medical fitness. A candidate who clears the written exam but fails an eligibility condition at document verification loses the seat, so it is worth checking each condition early.

The conditions below are from the Delhi Police Examination 2025, the latest completed cycle for Constable (Executive). The notification for the next cycle had not been released on 22 October 2026. Rules usually stay close from one cycle to the next, but age reference dates and some physical standards can change, so confirm every point in the new notice.

The age window is given as reported for the 2025 cycle, and the educational qualification, driving licence and physical standards were reported from the notice and from multiple sources. SSC publishes the authoritative text in its notice, so use this table as a guide rather than a final word.

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India. Delhi Police recruits for a post in the national capital, but candidates from any state can apply as long as they meet the other conditions. Residence in Delhi is not a requirement for the general post.

Educational qualification

Standard requirement

Candidates need a Senior Secondary (10+2) pass from a recognised board. The qualification must be complete by the closing date of the application in the notice, so a candidate who is still waiting for a 12th result at that date is not eligible for that cycle.

Class 11 relaxation

For certain groups, the education requirement is relaxed. In the 2025 cycle, the reported relaxations were for some Delhi Police bandsmen, buglers and drivers, and for sons of serving, retired or deceased Delhi Police personnel. These groups should read the exact wording in the notice before relying on the relaxation.

Points to check on your marksheet

  • Board recognition: The board should be a recognised state or central board. If you studied through an open school, confirm it is recognised.

  • Result date: Your pass certificate or marksheet must be dated on or before the closing date.

  • Name and date of birth: Details must match your other documents exactly.

Age limit and relaxations

The age limit for the general candidate was 18 to 25 years as on 1 July 2025. The age is counted from the date of birth recorded in the matriculation or equivalent certificate. Age as on the reference date of the next notice will be fixed in the next notification, so the date of birth window will shift.

The reported relaxations from the 2025 notice are shown below. Treat them as indicative and verify them against the next notice.

Category

Upper age relaxation (as reported)

SC and ST

5 years

OBC

3 years

Ex-servicemen

3 years after deducting the period of military service

Sportspersons

5 years or more, as per the notice

Delhi Police departmental candidates

Up to 40 years (General), 43 years (OBC) and 45 years (SC and ST)

Sons of Delhi Police personnel

Reported upper limit of 29 years

Relaxation is allowed for only one category. A candidate who qualifies under two, such as OBC and sportsperson, cannot add both. Documents such as a caste certificate, a non-creamy layer certificate or a discharge certificate must be valid for the date specified in the notice.

Quick age example

If the reference date is 1 July 2025 and the upper limit is 25 years, a general candidate must have been born on or after 2 July 2000. An OBC candidate with 3 years of relaxation could have been born on or after 2 July 1997. The lower limit of 18 years means a general candidate must have been born on or before 1 July 2007.

Driving licence requirement

Male candidates for Constable (Executive) were required to hold a valid driving licence for a light motor vehicle, a motorcycle or a car, on the date of the PE&MT. A learner's licence was not accepted. This condition did not apply to female candidates.

  • Apply early for the licence: Getting a permanent licence takes time after a learner's licence, so start the process before the notification.

  • Keep the original ready: Carry the original licence to the physical and document stages.

  • Check the exact class: The notice lists the vehicle classes that qualify, so check the entry on your licence.

Physical standards

The figures below are as reported for the 2025 cycle. Delhi Police holds the PE&MT, and the final standards are in the official notice.

Height and chest

Standard

Male

Female

Minimum height (general)

170 cm

157 cm

Minimum height (relaxed groups such as ST and hill-area candidates)

165 cm

155 cm

Chest (unexpanded to expanded)

81 to 85 cm, with at least 4 cm expansion

Not applicable

Some groups get a chest relaxation of up to 5 cm, including ST candidates, hill-area residents and sons of Delhi Police personnel. Check which group applies to you in the notice, because relaxations depend on proof.

Physical endurance

Age group

Male: race, long jump, high jump

Female: race, long jump, high jump

Up to 30 years

1600 m in 6 min, 14 ft, 3 ft 9 in

1600 m in 8 min, 10 ft, 3 ft

30 to 40 years

1600 m in 7 min, 13 ft, 3 ft 6 in

1600 m in 9 min, 9 ft, 2 ft 9 in

Above 40 years

1600 m in 8 min, 12 ft, 3 ft 3 in

1600 m in 10 min, 8 ft, 2 ft 6 in

Most young candidates compete in the up to 30 category. Do not wait for the result to start running practice: the written result came out about six months after the exam in the last cycle, and the physical test was then rescheduled once, so the gap between stages can be long.

Medical standards and other conditions

  • Medical fitness: Candidates must be free from defects that would affect police duties, including eyesight standards, and must pass the medical examination conducted by Delhi Police.

  • Character and antecedents: Candidates with a criminal record or pending cases may be declared ineligible, and false information can lead to cancellation.

  • Tattoos: Rules on tattoos are given in the notice. Read them carefully if you have any tattoo.

  • Marital and other service rules: Follow the conditions in the notice. Do not rely on older forums.

  • Language: The CBE is in English and Hindi, so there is no separate language test.

Who is not eligible

  • Under-age or over-age candidates: Anyone outside the age window after relaxation.

  • Candidates without the 10+2 qualification: Unless a specific relaxation applies to them.

  • Male candidates without a valid licence on the PE&MT date: A learner's licence does not count.

  • Candidates below the height or chest limit: After allowed relaxations.

  • Candidates who give false or incomplete information: Candidature can be cancelled at any stage, even after selection.

Fee and documents

For the 2025 cycle the reported fee was Rs. 100, and women, SC, ST and eligible ex-servicemen candidates were exempt. Keep these documents ready before you apply: class 10 and class 12 certificates, category or non-creamy layer certificate, photo ID, a recent photograph, signature, driving licence for men, and NCC or sports certificates if you claim bonus or relaxation.

How to check your own eligibility

  1. Calculate your age: Use the reference date and relaxation of your category from the notice.

  2. Match your qualification: Compare your result date with the closing date.

  3. Measure yourself: Check your height and chest against the standard for your group.

  4. Plan the licence: If you are male, make sure your licence is valid by the physical test.

  5. Read the notice fully: Look for changes from this guide before you apply.
