Delhi Police Driver Exam Pattern 2026: CBE, PE&MT, Trade Test and Merit

The Delhi Police Driver exam pattern has five stages: a computer based examination (CBE) conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, followed by the Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT), a driving trade test, document verification and a medical examination conducted by Delhi Police. Only the CBE decides your rank. Every later stage is qualifying, which means you must pass it but it adds no marks.

This page explains each stage as set out in the notice for the Constable (Driver) - Male in Delhi Police Examination 2025, including section-wise marks, negative marking, minimum qualifying marks, bonus marks, physical standards and the trade test scheme. It also shows how long each stage took in the 2025 cycle and turns the numbers into a practical time plan for the 90-minute paper.

CBE Exam Pattern

The CBE is a single objective paper with four parts. It is held in English and Hindi only, and SSC describes the level of questions as Class 10.

There is no separate time limit for each part, so you can move between sections. Candidates choose three examination centres anywhere in India when applying, in order of preference, and cannot change them later.

For the topics inside each part, read the Delhi Police Driver syllabus.

Marking Scheme, Answer Keys and Normalisation

  • Correct answer: 1 mark.

  • Wrong answer: 0.25 marks deducted.

  • Unanswered question: No marks and no deduction.

Answer Keys

SSC publishes tentative answer keys after the CBE, with a short window to challenge answers online for a fee. In the 2025 cycle, the keys came out on 31 December 2025, challenges closed on 3 January 2026, and each challenge cost Rs. 50. Final answer keys, question papers and individual marks were later made available for a limited period, from 26 May to 9 June 2026. Download your response sheet while it is available, because SSC does not provide it afterwards.

Normalisation

When the CBE runs in more than one shift, SSC normalises scores using the formula it has published, so that candidates are not helped or hurt by an easier or harder shift. This is why official cut-offs appear with several decimal places, such as 83.40374. Your normalised score may be slightly higher or lower than the raw score you calculate from the answer key.

Final check

  • About 54 seconds per question: 90 minutes for 100 questions is generous for GK and signs, but tight for reasoning and maths. Bank time on quick questions.

  • The cost of a wrong guess: Four wrong answers cancel one right answer. With a UR cut-off of 83.40 in the 2025 exam, a few careless guesses can push you below the line.

  • Where effort pays most: Part D alone can deliver 45 or more marks for a well-prepared candidate. No other part offers that return for the time spent.

  • No sectional cut-off: The notice sets an aggregate minimum, not section-wise minimums, so a weak section can be balanced by a strong one.

Minimum Qualifying Marks and Bonus Marks

To be considered at all, you must reach a minimum CBE score. Clearing it does not guarantee a call to PE&MT; that depends on the category cut-off.

Category

Minimum qualifying marks (out of 100)

UR and EWS

40

OBC, SC and ST

35

Ex-servicemen

30

SSC may lower these minimums for a category if not enough candidates qualify. Candidates are then shortlisted for PE&MT broadly at 20 times the vacancies in each category, based on CBE merit.

Bonus Marks

Certificate

Bonus (share of the maximum CBE marks)

NCC 'C' certificate

NCC 'B' certificate

3%

NCC 'A' certificate

2%

Rashtriya Raksha University degree or diploma (distinction / first / second / pass class)

5% / 4% / 3% / 2%

NCC bonus is not available to ex-servicemen. Bonus marks are given only to candidates who produce the original certificate at the PE&MT stage, so keep it ready.

PE&MT Pattern

The PE&MT is held by Delhi Police and is qualifying. You must clear the race before attempting the jumps, and you get three chances at each jump.

High jump

Above 30 to 40 years

8 minutes

11 feet 6 inches

3 feet 3 inches

Above 40 years

9 minutes

The higher age bands mainly apply to candidates with age relaxation, such as departmental candidates. There is no appeal against disqualification in the race or jumps.

Physical Measurement Test

Measurement

Standard

Height

170 cm minimum

5 cm for residents of hill areas, ST candidates, and sons of serving, retired or deceased Delhi Police personnel and Multi-Tasking Staff

Chest

81 cm with at least 4 cm expansion (81 to 85 cm)

5 cm for the same groups

A certificate is needed at PE&MT to claim relaxation. Candidates who fail height or chest can appeal on the same day; this appeal is not available for the race or jumps.

Trade Test Pattern

Candidates who clear the PE&MT take document verification and the trade test. It is the stage that makes this post different from other Delhi Police exams, such as the Delhi Police Constable exam pattern or the Delhi Police Head Constable exam pattern.

Note the rule of 50% in each driving part. A strong forward drive cannot make up for a failed reverse or parking attempt, so practise all three on both vehicle types.

Document Verification and Medical Examination

  • Document verification: Held with the PE&MT and trade test stage. Bring your Class 10 certificate (for date of birth), Class 12 certificate, original HMV licence, category or relaxation certificates, and any NCC or RRU certificate. Licences are checked through DigiLocker and official records.

  • Medical examination: Conducted in selected Delhi government hospitals. Eyesight must be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye without glasses, with no colour blindness. No relaxation is allowed.

How the Final Merit Is Prepared

The final select list is prepared category-wise using CBE marks, after normalisation and any bonus marks, for candidates who qualify every later stage. If two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate ranks higher; if still tied, the alphabetical order of first names decides.

Worked example: Suppose your normalised CBE score is 80 and you hold an NCC 'B' certificate. The bonus is 3% of 100, which is 3 marks, so your merit score becomes 83 if you produce the certificate at PE&MT. You still need to pass PE&MT, the trade test and medical, but those results do not change the 83.

Compare that with the 2025 cut-offs on the Delhi Police Driver cut-off page to judge how much a bonus can matter.

Stage-Wise Timeline From the 2025 Cycle

Knowing how far apart the stages are helps you plan physical and driving practice. This is how the 2025 cycle moved, based on SSC and Delhi Police notices.

Not announced as of 2 November 2026

About nine months passed between the CBE and the PE&MT in this cycle. The gap can be different next time, so keep your running and driving practice going from the start rather than waiting for the result. Track updates on the Delhi Police recruitment page: https://delhipolice.gov.in/recruitments.html

Common Mistakes at Each Stage

  • CBE: Treating Part D as easy because you drive every day. Rule-based questions on signs, lane use and maintenance still need revision.

  • CBE: Guessing on every doubtful question. With 0.25 negative marking and a high cut-off, blind guesses rarely pay.

  • PE&MT: Starting running practice only after the result. The 1,600 m race must be cleared before the jumps, and failing it ends the attempt.

  • Trade test: Practising only forward driving. Reverse and parking each need 50% on their own, in both an LMV and an HMV.

  • Document verification: Missing certificates for category, relaxation, NCC or RRU. Without them, the benefit is not given.

  • Medical: Assuming glasses are acceptable. The eyesight standard is without glasses.

Time Management for the 90-Minute Paper

  1. First 10 minutes: General Awareness. Answer what you know; skip guesses.

  2. Next 38 minutes: Part D. Read sign and rule questions carefully, since options are often close.

  3. Next 20 minutes: Reasoning. Leave any figure question that takes more than a minute.

  4. Next 14 minutes: Numerical Ability.

  5. Last 8 minutes: Return to marked questions and attempt only those you can narrow to one answer.

Try this order in full-length practice before exam day and adjust it to your strengths. For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt Delhi Police Driver mock tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to see where your minutes go.

Older pages may still show equal 25-mark sections or omit negative marking, so follow the latest official notice. Official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in/
