DSSSB ASO Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification
DSSSB ASO eligibility decides who can apply for Grade-II (GNCTDSS), or Assistant Section Officer, recruitment conducted by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board. The core rules are short: a bachelor's degree in any stream and an age of 21 to 30 years, with relaxation for reserved categories. The details around them, such as the reference date, the Delhi OBC rule and which relaxations apply to a Group B post, are where most applications go wrong.
This page explains the DSSSB ASO eligibility criteria for the 2026 cycle (Advertisement No. 01/2026, Post Code 804/26), where every condition was checked as on the closing date, 25 March 2026. Applications for this cycle are closed, so use it to confirm your standing in the current recruitment and to plan for the next notification.

What counts as a valid degree
Any stream is accepted: BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Tech and other bachelor's degrees all qualify. There is no subject restriction.
No minimum marks: The advertisement does not set a percentage or CGPA cut-off for the degree, so a pass is enough.
Recognition matters: The university or institute must be recognised. If your degree is through distance or open learning, confirm that the programme was recognised for the years you studied.
Final-year students and result-awaited candidates
Your degree must be complete, with the result declared, on or before the closing date. For the 2026 cycle that meant 25 March 2026. A final-year student whose result came after that date was not eligible, even if the degree was finished by the time of Tier I. If you are in your final year now, check the closing date of the next advertisement against your expected result date before you apply.
DSSSB ASO Age Limit
For the Services Department posts, candidates must be between 21 and 30 years old as on 25 March 2026. For the DPCC and DUSIB posts, the advertisement gives only an upper limit of 30 years.
Working from the reference date, a UR candidate for the Services Department needed to be born between 26 March 1995 and 25 March 2005, both days included. The table below extends that to the main reserved categories.
Category | Maximum age | Born on or after |
|---|---|---|
UR and EWS | 30 years | 26 March 1995 |
OBC (Delhi) | 33 years | 26 March 1992 |
SC and ST | 35 years | 26 March 1990 |
PwBD (UR) | 40 years | 26 March 1985 |
PwBD (OBC) | 43 years | 26 March 1982 |
PwBD (SC/ST) | 45 years | 26 March 1980 |
The dates are worked out by us from the 25 March 2026 reference date, and the latest date of birth for every category is 25 March 2005 because of the minimum age of 21. Your date of birth is taken from your Class 10 certificate, so check that the form matches it exactly.
Worked examples
Born 10 June 1995, UR: 30 years old on 25 March 2026, so within the limit. The 31st birthday came after the reference date.
Born 1 March 1995, UR: Turned 31 on 1 March 2026, so overage as UR. The same candidate with a valid Delhi OBC certificate would be within the 33-year limit.
Born 1 April 2005: Only 20 on 25 March 2026, so under the minimum age for the Services Department posts, whatever the category.
Age Relaxation for Reserved Categories
Relaxation applies only to the upper age limit. The minimum age of 21 is the same for everyone.
Category | Upper age relaxation (Group B) |
|---|---|
SC/ST | 5 years |
OBC (Delhi list) | 3 years |
PwBD (UR) | 10 years |
PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
PwBD (SC/ST) | 15 years |
Ex-servicemen | Period of military service plus 3 years, subject to the maximum in the rules |
Departmental candidates (regular government employees with 3 years' continuous service) | Up to 5 years |
EWS | No age relaxation |
Relaxations that do not apply to ASO
The advertisement's relaxation table also lists benefits for widows, divorced or judicially separated women, meritorious sportspersons and disabled defence personnel. These are listed for Group C posts. Since ASO is a Group B post, candidates should not count on them for Post Code 804/26. Several popular pages list them without this distinction, so read Para 8 of the official advertisement before relying on any of them.
How the relaxations combine
PwBD plus category: The PwBD figures already include the category benefit, which is why a PwBD SC/ST candidate gets 15 years, not 10 plus a separate 5.
Ex-servicemen: The relaxation is calculated from your actual service, so work it out from your discharge documents rather than assuming a fixed number.
Departmental candidates: The benefit is for regular employees who meet the service condition, not for contractual or guest staff.
Nationality and Reservation Rules
Citizenship: Candidates must be citizens of India.
No domicile condition: You can apply from any state. The posts are in Delhi, but the advertisement does not require Delhi residence.
Delhi OBC list only: OBC reservation and the 3-year relaxation go only to candidates whose caste is on the Delhi OBC list and whose certificate is issued by the Delhi Government. An OBC certificate from another state means you apply and are considered as UR.
Reserved candidates and UR merit: In past Grade-II results, reserved-category candidates who scored at or above the UR cut-off were placed against UR vacancies, subject to availability. However, a candidate shortlisted under a reserved category on Tier I marks was not later moved to UR.
Certificates and the Closing-Date Rule
DSSSB judges every eligibility condition as on the closing date. In its own Grade-II notices, the Board has stated that category certificates must be held on or before that date, and that a candidate without a valid certificate by then is considered under UR.
Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC (Delhi), EWS and PwBD certificates should be issued on or before 25 March 2026 and in the prescribed format.
Degree: The result must be declared by the closing date. A provisional certificate or marksheet showing the result date is useful at verification.
Matching details: Name and date of birth on the form should match your Class 10 certificate. Small mismatches are a common reason for trouble at document verification.
Documents are checked only after Tier II, so being shortlisted in Tier I does not confirm your eligibility. Keep every certificate ready from the start.
Who Is Not Eligible
Result-awaited graduates: Anyone whose degree result was declared after 25 March 2026.
Overage candidates: Anyone above the upper limit for their category after applicable relaxation.
Underage candidates: Anyone younger than 21 on the reference date for the Services Department posts.
Out-of-state OBC claims: Candidates claiming OBC benefits on a non-Delhi certificate do not get OBC reservation or relaxation.
Late certificates: Category certificates issued after the closing date do not support a reserved-category claim.
Eligibility for the 2009 Applicants' Window
A separate window ran from 17 July to 17 August 2026 after a Supreme Court order dated 27 February 2026. It was open only to candidates who had applied for Grade-II under Post Code 90/09 in 2009, with proof such as the 2009 application, the acknowledgement postcard or a Tier I or Tier II admit card from that recruitment. Candidates who had reached the superannuation age of 60 were not eligible, and no fee was charged.
This window did not change the rules for fresh applicants. It only added eligible 2009 applicants to the pool competing for the same vacancies.
Fee and Documents to Keep Ready
The application fee was Rs. 100 for UR, OBC and EWS candidates, paid through SBI e-Pay. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates were exempt. Keep these documents ready for any DSSSB application and for verification:
Age proof: Class 10 certificate or marksheet showing date of birth.
Qualification: Degree certificate and final marksheet, with the result date visible.
Category proof: SC, ST, Delhi OBC, EWS or PwBD certificate in the prescribed format.
Service proof: Discharge certificate for ex-servicemen, or a service certificate for departmental candidates.
Uploads: A recent photograph and signature in the size given on dsssbonline.nic.in.
Planning for the Next Cycle
If the 2026 window closed before you qualified, start with a simple check: will your degree result be out, and will you still be under your category's upper age limit, on the likely closing date of the next advertisement? If yes, your preparation time is the real variable.
Confirm your documents now: Get your category certificate in the Delhi format if you need one, and correct any name or date-of-birth mismatch before the next form opens.
Learn the pattern: Read the DSSSB ASO exam pattern so you know Tier I is a screening test and Tier II, with its 100-mark descriptive part, decides selection.
Cover the syllabus in phases: Use the DSSSB ASO syllabus to plan General Awareness, Reasoning, Arithmetic, English, Hindi and Computer Proficiency.
Test yourself early: Timed practice shows whether you can handle 200 questions in two hours.
For the final word on every rule, read the advertisement and corrigenda on the official DSSSB website.
