DSSSB PGT Eligibility Criteria 2026: Age Limit and Qualification

DSSSB PGT eligibility criteria decide whether you can apply for a Post Graduate Teacher post in Delhi government schools. The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) sets them post by post, based on the recruitment rules of the Directorate of Education (DoE) and NDMC. The two PGT advertisements currently being processed are Advertisement 10/2024 (432 posts) and Advertisement 01/2025 (131 posts).

In short, you need a master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, a B.Ed. or an accepted equivalent, and an age within the limit for your post code. The upper age limit under both current advertisements is 30 years, not the 36 years many websites still show. This page covers qualification rules subject by subject, age limits and relaxation, category conditions, common disqualifiers and the documents you will need.

Educational Qualification for DSSSB PGT

Master's Degree With 50% Marks

You need a master's degree in the subject of the post from a recognised university or institution, with at least 50% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade. The 50% rule applies to the master's degree itself.

  • Do not round up: 49.6% is not 50%. If your aggregate is close to the line, check the exact figure on your marksheet.

  • CGPA holders: If your university awards grades or CGPA, keep its official conversion formula or an equivalence certificate ready for verification.

  • Distance and open learning: A degree from a recognised university is accepted in principle, but the programme must be valid and recognised for the year you studied.

B.Ed. and Accepted Equivalents

A teacher training qualification is essential. The current advertisements accept any one of the following:

  • B.Ed.: Bachelor of Education from a recognised university.

  • Integrated degree: B.A.B.Ed. or B.Sc.B.Ed. from a recognised institution.

  • Integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.: The three-year integrated programme.

Check that your B.Ed. institution was recognised by NCTE for the session you attended, because recognition is verified at the document stage.

This table summarises the main rule for each subject. Some posts accept closely related degrees, while others are strict. Engineering Graphics is the main exception to the master's-degree pattern, so read its qualification column in Advertisement 01/2025 in full, including the B.Ed. condition.

Final-Year Students and Results Awaited

DSSSB checks qualifications as on the closing date of the advertisement. If your master's or B.Ed. result was declared after that date, you are not eligible for that advertisement, even if you clear the exam. Final-year students should apply only to an advertisement whose closing date falls after their results.

Is CTET Required for DSSSB PGT?

No. CTET qualifies teachers for Classes 1 to 8 and is required for TGT and primary posts, not for PGT. Some websites list it for PGT by mistake. Teaching experience is also not an essential condition for the current PGT posts.

DSSSB PGT Age Limit

Both current advertisements set the upper age limit at not exceeding 30 years. Age is calculated as on the closing date: 14 February 2025 for Advertisement 10/2024 and 7 August 2025 for Advertisement 01/2025.

The advertisements state only an upper limit. In practice, holding a master's degree and a B.Ed. means very few applicants are younger than their early twenties, so the minimum age rarely matters.

Why Some Pages Still Show 36 Years

Earlier PGT advertisements, such as Advertisement 07/2023, used a limit of below 36 years for many subjects. The requisition behind Advertisement 10/2024 changed this to 30 years. Older pages may still show 36 years, so always follow the age column of the advertisement you are applying under.

Age Relaxation by Category

Relaxation is added to the upper age limit of 30 years. The table shows the effective upper age for each category under the current advertisements.

Varies by service period

Departmental relaxation for Delhi government employees normally needs continuous service and a link between the current post and the PGT post, as set out in the advertisement. Some relaxations in the DSSSB table apply only to Group C posts. PGT is a Group B post, so check the group column before counting on a relaxation.

Relaxation for Guest and Contract Teachers

Candidates working on contract in the same department, such as guest teachers in DoE schools, get a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit equal to the actual time spent as a contractual employee, subject to a maximum of 5 years. The advertisement sets conditions on how that service is counted, so keep experience certificates that show exact dates and working days. Relaxation claims without proper proof are a common reason for rejection at the document stage.

Category and Reservation Conditions

  • OBC benefits need a Delhi certificate: OBC reservation and age relaxation apply only to candidates with an OBC certificate issued in Delhi. OBC candidates from other states can apply, but as UR, with the UR age limit.

  • EWS: An EWS certificate in the prescribed format, valid for the relevant financial year, is needed to claim EWS reservation. EWS candidates get no age relaxation.

  • PwBD: Relaxation and reservation are for persons with a benchmark disability of 40% or more, backed by a valid disability certificate. Facilities such as compensatory time or a scribe in the exam follow government guidelines and the conditions in the advertisement.

  • Ex-servicemen: Age relaxation follows government rules, and DSSSB also gives ex-servicemen a 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks, subject to a minimum of 30%.

  • Certificates must match the claim: Your category, name and date of birth on certificates must match what you entered in the application. A category claimed but not proved is treated as UR or rejected.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens, or belong to another category allowed under Government of India rules as listed in the advertisement.

  • No Delhi domicile needed: Candidates from any state can apply. Domicile matters only for OBC benefits, as explained above.

  • Male and female post codes: Most subjects have separate post codes for male and female candidates, linked to boys' and girls' schools. Apply only under the post code that matches your gender as the advertisement specifies.

  • More than one post: You can apply for more than one post code if you meet each one's eligibility. Each application is assessed separately, and exam dates for different posts may clash.

  • No attempt limit: DSSSB does not cap the number of times you can apply, as long as you meet the age and qualification rules of each advertisement.

  • Medical and character checks: Selected candidates go through medical examination and character verification before appointment.

Who Is Not Eligible

Most rejections in DSSSB PGT come from a small set of avoidable problems. You are not eligible, or your candidature can be cancelled, if:

  • Your master's is in a subject the post does not accept: For example, a Biology applicant who did not study both Botany and Zoology at graduation.

  • Your aggregate is below 50%: Rounding up or using a single-year percentage does not count.

  • Your result came after the closing date: This applies to both the master's degree and the B.Ed.

  • You do not have a B.Ed. or accepted equivalent: A diploma such as D.El.Ed. does not meet the PGT requirement.

  • You are over the age limit after relaxation: Including cases where a relaxation was claimed but not proved.

  • Your OBC certificate is from outside Delhi: You can still compete as UR if you are within the UR age limit.

  • Your details do not match: Differences in name, date of birth or marks between the application and your documents.
