EMRS Hostel Warden Eligibility: Age, Degree and Conditions
EMRS Hostel Warden eligibility decides whether you can apply for the Hostel Warden (Male) or Hostel Warden (Female) post in Eklavya Model Residential Schools. The recruitment is run by NESTS, and the latest cycle was part of the EMRS Staff Selection Examination (ESSE) 2025.
This page explains qualification, age limit, relaxation and other conditions in plain language. The official eligibility rules sit in the NESTS information bulletin, which we could not read in full. Anything taken from third-party reports is therefore marked tentative. Please read the bulletin before you apply or pay any fee.

Educational qualification
Reports on the notification say a bachelor's degree is required. One report adds that a four-year integrated degree from a recognised institution is also accepted. The bulletin decides the exact wording, so check three things there.
Recognition: Your university or institution should be recognised by the competent authority, such as the UGC.
Result date: Check whether you must hold the degree by a stated date. Final-year students should not assume they can apply.
Subject or training: The bulletin states whether any specific subject, percentage or additional training is needed. We have not found any such requirement confirmed on the official site.
If your degree was awarded as CGPA, ask your university for a percentage conversion certificate in case the bulletin asks for marks.
Age limit and relaxation
Reports differ on the upper age limit. One report gives up to 35 years, and also mentions a higher limit of 55 years for existing EMRS employees. Another report gives a different general cap. Because they conflict, treat all numbers as tentative.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes | As per Government of India rules, confirm years in bulletin |
Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) | As per Government of India rules, confirm years in bulletin |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | As per Government of India rules, confirm years in bulletin |
Ex-servicemen | As per Government of India rules, confirm years in bulletin |
We have not listed relaxation in years because we could not verify it. The bulletin also states the date as on which your age is counted. Calculate your age on that date, not on today's date.
Gender and post choice
NESTS has separate posts for male and female wardens, and reports mention about 346 male and 289 female vacancies. These numbers are indicative. A boys' hostel is run by a male warden and a girls' hostel by a female warden, so choose the post that matches your gender when you apply.
Nationality and other conditions
Indian citizenship: The standard central government nationality rules apply, as given in the bulletin.
Category certificates: To claim reservation, you need a valid certificate in the format and date range the bulletin specifies.
Medical and physical fitness: A residential post needs a fit candidate. The bulletin states if any standard applies.
Character and conduct: Because the post involves child safety, expect checks at the verification stage.
Language: Tier-I includes English, Hindi and one regional language chosen by you, so some reading comfort in these is useful.
Who may not be eligible
Candidates without the required degree on the stated date: A pending result does not count unless the bulletin says so.
Candidates above the age limit after relaxation: Count your age on the reference date.
Candidates with wrong category claims: A certificate that does not match the claim can lead to rejection.
Candidates who apply to the wrong post: The post must match the candidate's gender.
Candidates with incomplete forms or documents: Mismatched names and unreadable uploads are common reasons.
Fee and documents
The fee differs in the sources we reviewed. One report shows no application fee for women and reserved groups with a processing fee for all, while another gives different amounts. We are not stating a figure here, so check the fee table in the bulletin. Keep your degree certificate, mark sheets, category certificate, photo ID, photograph and signature ready.
How to confirm your eligibility
Open the bulletin: Download the ESSE 2025 information bulletin from nests.tribal.gov.in.
Find the Hostel Warden entry: Read the qualification and age rows for your post only.
Check the reference dates: Match your degree date and date of birth.
Match your documents: Compare names, dates and categories across certificates.
Plan your preparation: Review the EMRS Hostel Warden exam pattern next.
Once you are sure you are eligible, practise with EMRS Hostel Warden online tests on Testkart and build a routine around the syllabus. If any rule changes in a future cycle, the new bulletin will override this page.
