EMRS PGT Cut-off 2025-26: Subject-wise Tier 1 Cut-off Marks
The EMRS PGT cut-off is the minimum score a candidate needed, in their subject and category, to move to the next stage of the EMRS Staff Selection Exam (ESSE). For ESSE 2025, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) published the Tier 1 cut-off on 31 January 2026 for shortlisting candidates to Tier 2. Tier 2 results for all PGT subjects followed in September 2026, with marks and document verification status shown in each candidate's login.
This page gives the ESSE 2025 PGT Tier 1 cut-off subject by subject, explains what drives these numbers, and shows how to use them to set a realistic target.
Table of Contents
How the EMRS PGT Cut-off Works
Stage | What the cut-off decides | Basis |
|---|---|---|
Tier 1 | Shortlisting for Tier 2 | Rank in Parts I to V (out of 100), within subject and category, at a 1:10 ratio to vacancies; language section must be cleared first |
Tier 2 | Document verification and final merit | Tier 2 marks (out of 100), with a minimum of 30% for General, OBC and EWS and 25% for SC, ST and PwBD |
The Tier 2 minimum is only a qualifying floor. Selection depends on where you rank in your subject and category.

What the 2025 Figures Show
Unreserved cut-offs sat in a narrow band: Between about 58.7 (Economics) and 67 (Mathematics) out of 100.
Mathematics and Biology were the most competitive: Both had UR cut-offs of 66 or more.
ST cut-offs varied the most: From 21 in Economics to 55.7 in Mathematics, which likely reflects smaller ST applicant pools in some subjects.
Tier 2 cut-offs: NESTS released Tier 2 results through candidate logins. Subject-wise Tier 2 cut-off figures were not found in the result notices reviewed for this page, so none are shown here.
Factors That Affect the Cut-off
Vacancies per subject: More posts mean more Tier 2 seats at the 1:10 ratio, which can lower the cut-off.
Number of applicants: Subjects with many postgraduates and B.Ed holders tend to see higher cut-offs.
Paper difficulty: A tougher Tier 1 paper pulls the cut-off down for everyone.
Negative marking: The one-third penalty separates careful candidates from heavy guessers.
Language qualification: Candidates who fail the 20-mark language section drop out before ranking.
How to Set Your Target Score
Cut-offs change every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat the 2025 figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
Tier 1 target: Aim for 70 or more out of 100 in Parts I to V, which clears every 2025 UR subject cut-off with a margin, and 14 or more out of 20 in the language section.
Tier 2 target: Plan to score well above the 30% qualifying floor. Focus on the 60 descriptive marks, since they decide most of the gap between candidates.
Track it in mocks: Take full-length timed tests and compare your Parts I to V score with the cut-off for your subject and category.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt teaching exam online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to see how far you are from your target. Testkart study notes can help you revise the subject topics behind lost marks between tests.
