Facts that we could confirm from the notification are stated plainly. Anything reported by secondary sources only is marked as indicative, so you know what to double-check on the official website.

Recruitment Route and Notification Status

Earlier ESIC cycles ran their own two-phase online exam for UDC, Stenographer and MTS. The 2026 cycle is different. ESIC is one of the participating institutes in the AIIMS CRE-5 notification, and UDC falls under Group Code 3, which also covers Data Entry Operator Grade A, Junior Administrative Assistant and Lower Division Clerk posts.

That change matters in practice. You apply through the common recruitment portal, you appear in a single common CBT for the group, and your final allocation depends on the institute preferences you fill after qualifying.

Older pages may still describe the previous ESIC Phase 1 and Phase 2 pattern, so follow the current notification and the ESIC website for the latest position.

Vacancy Details

The AIIMS CRE-5 notice covers 1,484 Group B and C non-faculty posts across all participating institutes. A post-wise count for ESIC UDC is not something we could confirm from the notice text itself.

One secondary source reports 754 UDC posts for ESIC after a corrigendum, up from 733 originally, with Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu among the larger regions. Treat this as indicative only. Check the vacancy annexure on the official site before you plan around any region.

Eligibility Summary

The full rules are on our eligibility page. Here is the short version.

Qualification

A degree from a recognised university and working knowledge of computers. The qualification must be held by the registration closing date, 3 July 2026, so final-year students were not eligible in this cycle.

Age limit

The upper and lower age limits are reported as 18 to 27 years as on 3 July 2026 (indicative). Relaxation applies as per government rules.

Category

Upper age relaxation

PwBD

Central government civilian employees (3 years regular service)

Up to 40 years (UR), 43 (OBC), 45 (SC/ST)

Application Fee and How to Apply

Category

Fee

Rs. 3,000

SC / ST / EWS

Rs. 2,400 (refundable after the result, as stated in the notice)

Persons with disabilities

Exempt

The fee is payable separately for every group code you apply to. It is paid online by debit card, credit card or net banking. The window is closed for this cycle, but the steps below will help you in the next one.

  1. Register on the official recruitment portal named in the notice with a valid email and mobile number.

  2. Select the group code and the institutes you want to be considered for.

  3. Upload your photograph, signature and documents in the specified format.

  4. Pay the fee online and download the confirmation page.

  5. Submit the NOC by the deadline if you are a government employee.

Common reasons for rejection include applying with a qualification not yet completed, a mismatched name or date of birth across documents, a missing NOC and wrongly sized uploads.

Exam Pattern

The CBT for Group Code 3 has a single test with the following structure, as given in the notification.

Feature

Details

Questions

100 MCQs with four options

Marks

400 (4 marks per question)

Duration

90 minutes

Sections

Five sections of 20 questions, 18 minutes each

Content split

20 questions on general knowledge, aptitude and computer knowledge; 80 questions on General Maths and English

Medium

Bilingual (English and Hindi)

Negative marking

One-fourth of a mark for each wrong answer

What this means for you:

  • Time is fixed per section: Each section locks after 18 minutes, and you cannot return to an earlier one. You cannot borrow time from an easy section.

  • Maths and English carry the score: Four out of five sections' worth of questions come from these two areas, so they decide your rank.

  • Guessing has a price: A wrong answer costs one mark against four gained, so blind guessing is only sensible when you can remove two options.

See the detailed exam pattern page for the marking scheme and a section-wise time plan.

Syllabus Summary

The notification names the areas rather than listing every topic. The table below is a working checklist built from the notified areas and the usual clerical-exam topics.

Subject

Important topics

General Maths

Number system, percentage, profit and loss, ratio, time and work, speed and distance, simple and compound interest, data interpretation

English

Reading comprehension, error spotting, fill in the blanks, cloze test, vocabulary, sentence rearrangement

General Knowledge and Aptitude

Current affairs, static GK, basic science, reasoning series, coding-decoding, syllogism

Computer knowledge

MS Office, internet and email, shortcuts, file management

Use the topic-wise syllabus page to plan the order in which you cover each area.

Selection Process

  1. Computer-based test: Merit is based on CBT marks of candidates who meet the qualifying percentage.

  2. Choice filling: Qualified candidates select institutes and preferences. Not filling choices means no allocation.

  3. Skill test: Qualifying in nature for posts that require it. Details for ESIC UDC are given in the skill test annexure of the official notice.

  4. Document verification: Appointment is subject to eligibility checks and the decision of the competent authority.

Qualifying percentages in the CBT are 40 percent for UR and EWS, 35 percent for OBC, and 30 percent for SC, ST and PwBD. Ties are broken by marks in the domain part first, then fewer negative marks, then older age.

Salary and Career Growth

UDC is a Level 4 post in the 7th Pay Commission structure, with a pay matrix range of Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and transport allowance are added on top, and the amount depends on the city class where you are posted.

The in-hand salary is not an official figure, and it varies by city and deductions. Clerical staff can move up through departmental promotion to posts such as Assistant and Section Officer as per service rules.

How to Prepare for ESIC UDC

Because the paper is short and heavily timed, preparation is mostly about speed and accuracy in maths and English.

  • Weeks 1 to 4: Revise arithmetic basics, tables, squares and percentage-fraction conversions. Read English daily for 30 minutes.

  • Weeks 5 to 8: Start topic tests, 20 questions in 18 minutes, to match the sectional format. Add reasoning and computer fundamentals.

  • Weeks 9 and beyond: Attempt full-length 90-minute mocks, analyse each one the same day and keep an error log.

For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt ESIC UDC online tests on Testkart mock tests and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level. If you want structured guidance, look at the ESIC UDC test bundles as well.

Cut-Off Reference

The notification fixes qualifying percentages but no marks-based cut-off. Final selection cut-offs depend on vacancies, difficulty and the number of candidates who qualify.
