ESIC UDC Eligibility 2026: Age and Degree

ESIC UDC eligibility comes down to four checks: your degree, your computer knowledge, your age on the cut-off date and a few conditions around documents and employment. Candidates often lose an application not on exam day but at the screening stage, because one of these checks failed. This guide helps you test yourself against each rule before you apply.

In the 2026 cycle, ESIC Upper Division Clerk is recruited under Group Code 3 of the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination (CRE-5), with ESIC as a participating institute. The registration window closed on 3 July 2026, and that date anchors most eligibility conditions. Where a rule was reported by secondary sources only, this page marks it as indicative.

Educational Qualification

Degree requirement

The UDC post asks for a bachelor's degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. The discipline is not restricted in the sources we reviewed, so a degree in arts, science, commerce or any other stream is generally accepted. Check the exact wording in the notification annexure for your group code.

Result deadline

The notification treats the registration closing date, 3 July 2026, as the crucial date for eligibility. You needed to hold the qualification on or before that date. Final-year students waiting for results were therefore not eligible in this cycle. If your result arrived after the closing date, you could not claim the degree for this recruitment.

Percentage and grades

No minimum percentage was mentioned in the sources we reviewed, which means a pass is sufficient on the face of it. If your university uses CGPA, keep the official conversion certificate ready, because verification teams may ask for it at the document stage.

Recognised university

Your degree should come from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission or a statutory body. Distance, open and private university degrees are generally accepted when the university is recognised. Keep your degree certificate, mark sheets and any equivalence certificate handy.

Computer Knowledge Requirement

The UDC post requires working knowledge of computers, typically covering office software and basic data work. The test itself includes a computer knowledge component, and the skill test is qualifying in nature.

The notification does not ask you to submit a computer certificate at the application stage in the sources we reviewed. Even so, keep any course certificate (for example a basic computer course) in case it is requested later. Practise typing and MS Office to be comfortable on the skill test.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Age limit

The age limit for ESIC UDC is reported as 18 to 27 years as on 3 July 2026. This comes from secondary sources and is not something we could confirm from the notification text, so check it on the official portal. If you were 27 on 3 July 2026, you were within the limit. If you turned 28 the day before, you were not.

Practical way to check: take 3 July 2026, subtract 27 years, and your date of birth should fall on or after 4 July 1998 for the general category (indicative). Add relaxation years for your category to move that date earlier.

Age relaxation

Category

Upper age relaxation

SC / ST

5 years

OBC (non-creamy layer)

3 years

Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD)

10 years

Ex-servicemen

Years of military service plus 3 years

Central government civilian employees with 3 years of regular service

Up to 40 years (UR), 43 (OBC), 45 (SC/ST)

Relaxations are as listed in the AIIMS CRE-5 notification. If you fall under more than one category, the notification sets out how the relaxation applies, so read the relevant notes before assuming the years add up. Using the reported base age of 27, the PwBD limits work out to 37 for UR, 40 for OBC and 42 for SC and ST candidates, but treat this as arithmetic from an indicative figure.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Indian citizenship is the usual requirement for central government clerical posts. Confirm the exact rule in the notice.

  • NOC for employees: Candidates working in government, semi-government or quasi-government bodies, public sector undertakings or government-funded bodies must submit a No Objection Certificate by the stated deadline, 8 July 2026 in this cycle. Without it, candidature is not considered.

  • Choice of institutes: After qualifying the CBT, you fill your institute preferences. Failing to fill choices means no allocation.

  • Medical and character checks: Appointment is subject to eligibility verification and the decision of the competent authority at the allotted institute.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Final-year students: Anyone without a completed degree on 3 July 2026.

  • Over-age candidates: Candidates above the age limit even after category relaxation.

  • Employees without an NOC: Government and public sector employees who did not submit the certificate on time.

  • Incomplete applications: Applications without fee payment or with uploads that do not meet the specified format.

  • Mismatched details: Name, date of birth or category that does not match certificates at verification.

Even if you pass the CBT, eligibility is re-checked at the document stage. A candidature found ineligible at any stage can be cancelled.

Fee and Documents

Category

Application fee

General / OBC

Rs. 3,000

SC / ST / EWS

Rs. 2,400 (refundable after the result, as stated in the notice)

Persons with disabilities

Keep these documents ready: degree certificate and mark sheets, proof of date of birth, category certificate where applicable, disability certificate if claiming relaxation, ex-servicemen discharge papers, NOC for employees, photo identity proof, and passport-size photograph and signature in the specified format. Our ESIC UDC overview has the full application steps.

Eligibility for the Next Stages

Clearing the CBT does not end the eligibility story. You must meet the qualifying percentage (40 percent for UR and EWS, 35 percent for OBC, 30 percent for SC, ST and PwBD). Then you take the qualifying skill test and go through document verification. Details of the skill test are in the official annexure and were still to be notified when this page was written.

Self-Check Before You Apply

  1. Degree: Do you hold the degree and result on or before the cut-off date?

  2. Age: Does your date of birth fall within the limit plus relaxation?

  3. Category: Is your certificate valid and in the correct format for central posts?

  4. NOC: If you are employed in a government body, is your NOC arranged?

  5. Documents: Do names and dates match across all certificates?

For the final word on eligibility, always read the notification and notices on the official ESIC website.
