IB Security Assistant Motor Transport Eligibility 2026
The IB Security Assistant Motor Transport eligibility criteria are stricter than those of most Class 10-level government jobs. Along with passing Class 10, you need a valid licence to drive a motor car, at least one year of driving experience after getting that licence, working knowledge of motor mechanism and a domicile certificate of the state you apply from. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recruits for these posts on behalf of the Intelligence Bureau.
This guide follows the Security Assistant (Motor Transport) Examination 2025 notification, the latest one released, which closed on 28 September 2025. That date was the crucial date for age in the last cycle. The next notification has not been released yet, so treat the dates here as reference points and confirm every condition when the new notice comes out.

Post | Group C, non-gazetted, Pay Level 3 (Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100) |
Educational Qualification
The minimum qualification is matriculation, that is, Class 10 pass from a recognised board of education. You do not need Class 12 or a degree. Candidates with higher qualifications can apply, as long as they meet every other condition, including the licence and experience rules.
Recognised board only: Your Class 10 certificate should come from a board recognised by the central or a state government. Certificates from unrecognised boards are rejected at document verification.
Qualification held by the closing date: You should have passed Class 10 by the closing date of applications. A pending result is not enough.
No minimum percentage: The notification asks only for a pass in matriculation. There is no cut-off percentage for Class 10.
Keep your marksheet handy: Your Class 10 certificate also serves as proof of date of birth, so make sure the name and date of birth match your other documents.
Driving Licence Requirement
This is the condition that rules out most applicants who are otherwise eligible. You must hold a valid driving licence for motor cars, that is, a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence, issued by the competent licensing authority.
Your licence situation | Eligible? |
|---|---|
Valid licence that covers LMV (motor car) | Yes, if the experience condition is also met |
Learner's licence only | No, a learner's licence is not a driving licence |
Licence for motorcycle only (MCWG or MCWOG) | No, a car licence is compulsory |
Expired licence not renewed | No, the licence must be valid |
LMV and motorcycle licence together | Yes, and the motorcycle part counts as a desirable qualification |
Check the class of vehicle printed on your licence before you apply. If it lists only two-wheelers, you are not eligible for this post, however well you drive a car.
One Year of Driving Experience
The notification asks for experience of driving a motor car for at least one year after obtaining a valid driving licence. In simple terms, your LMV licence should be at least one year old, and you should have actually been driving during that year.
How to Check the One-Year Rule
Count from the issue date of your LMV licence to the crucial date in the notification. The examples below assume the closing date is the crucial date for experience, as it was for age in 2025 (28 September 2025). Confirm the exact date when the next notification is out.
LMV licence issued on | One year completed by 28 September 2025? |
|---|---|
10 August 2024 | Yes |
5 March 2025 | No, only about 7 months |
15 January 2023 | Yes, comfortably |
Experience Certificate
You will need proof of your driving experience at document verification. The 2025 notification asked for an experience certificate, and it is reported to accept certificates from government or semi-government departments, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies or registered firms. Read the exact wording and format in the next notification before you arrange the certificate, because a certificate in the wrong format can lead to rejection.
Some websites describe this requirement as one year of work in a government organisation. That is not what the post asks for. The requirement is one year of driving a motor car after getting the licence, backed by a valid certificate.
Knowledge of Motor Mechanism
The notification says the candidate should be able to remove minor defects in the vehicle. There is no separate certificate listed for this. Instead, your mechanical knowledge is tested in Tier-II, the Motor Mechanism and Driving Test cum Interview.
Routine checks: Engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, tyre pressure, battery and lights.
Minor fixes: Changing a flat tyre, replacing a fuse or bulb, tightening a loose battery terminal and spotting a worn fan belt.
Upkeep: Basic servicing intervals, cleaning and keeping the vehicle road-ready.
If you drive but have never opened a bonnet, start learning these basics now. Tier-II needs at least 20 out of 50 marks, and the marks count towards your final rank.
Domicile and SIB Choice
Vacancies are announced separately for each Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB). In 2025, 455 posts were spread across 37 SIBs, from Delhi/IB Headquarters to state capitals and border areas. You opt for one SIB and must hold a domicile certificate of the state or UT against which you apply.
One SIB, one set of vacancies: Your candidature is considered only against the vacancies of the SIB you choose, so pick carefully.
Domicile must match: A domicile certificate from a different state from your chosen SIB will not be accepted.
Exam city can change: The 2025 notice said candidates could be shifted to another exam city if a centre was over or under-subscribed. This affects only where you write the test, not the SIB you compete for.
The 2025 vacancy split by category is shown below for reference. Vacancy numbers change every cycle.
Category | Vacancies (2025) |
|---|---|
UR | 219 |
OBC (NCL) | 90 |
SC | 51 |
ST | 49 |
EWS | 46 |
Total | 455 |
Delhi/IB Headquarters had the largest share in 2025, with 127 posts. Several SIBs had fewer than five posts, so in smaller units even one or two posts in your category can decide your chances.
Age Limit and Age Relaxation
The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on the closing date of the online application. For the 2025 cycle, that date was 28 September 2025.
Working from that rule, a UR candidate in 2025 should have been born between 29 September 1997 and 28 September 2007, both dates included. This window is calculated from the age rule, not quoted from the notice, so check the exact dates printed in the next notification.
Category-Wise Age Relaxation
Category | Upper age relaxation | Maximum age |
|---|---|---|
UR and EWS | No relaxation | 27 years |
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 30 years |
SC and ST | 5 years | 32 years |
Departmental candidates (central government civilian employees with 3 years of regular and continuous service) | Up to 40 years | 40 years |
Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated who have not remarried | Category-wise ceiling | UR 35, OBC 38, SC and ST 40 years |
Meritorious sportspersons | Up to 5 years | As per category plus relaxation |
Ex-servicemen | As per government orders | Depends on length of military service |
Relaxation is allowed only if you submit the certificate in the format and from the authority the notification prescribes. An OBC certificate must show the non-creamy layer status and be in the central government format, not a state format. Any relaxation for persons with disabilities, if applicable to this driving post, will be stated in the notification.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Indian nationality: Applications are invited from Indian nationals.
All India service liability: Selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India, so apply only if you are willing to serve outside your home state when required.
Medical fitness: A medical examination is part of the final stage. As a driving post, sound eyesight and general fitness matter.
Character and antecedents: Appointment depends on satisfactory verification of character and antecedents, as for other central government posts.
Online application only: Forms are accepted only through mha.gov.in or ncs.gov.in within the notified dates.
Who Is Not Eligible
Most rejections happen at document verification, after a candidate has already cleared the tests. Check these common disqualifiers before you spend months preparing.
No Class 10 pass certificate: Or a certificate from an unrecognised board.
Learner's or two-wheeler licence only: A valid LMV licence is compulsory.
Licence less than one year old: If your LMV licence is not a year old on the crucial date, the experience condition is not met.
No experience certificate in the required format: Driving informally without any proof can cost you the post.
Domicile mismatch: Applying for an SIB outside the state of your domicile certificate.
Over age without a valid relaxation certificate: Claiming OBC, SC, ST or other relaxation without the correct certificate.
Mismatched details: Name or date of birth differing between your Class 10 certificate, licence and application form.
