Indian Coast Guard Yantrik

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik is a recruitment exam, relevant to candidates preparing for the armed forces and paramilitary recruitment.

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik is the technical entry for diploma holders who want to join the Coast Guard as enrolled personnel. Yantriks maintain the machinery, electrical systems and electronic equipment fitted on Coast Guard ships, aircraft and stations. Recruitment happens through the Coast Guard Enrolled Personnel Test (CGEPT), and the current cycle is the CGEPT-01/27 batch, notified in October 2026 with 60 Yantrik vacancies across the Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics branches.

This guide brings the ICG Yantrik exam together in one place: eligibility, vacancies, dates, the new Stage I pattern, syllabus, physical test, pay and a practical preparation plan. The CGEPT-01/27 notice changed several things from earlier batches, including the Stage I paper and the physical fitness test, so read the "what changed" section before you rely on older material.

What Changed in the CGEPT-01/27 Notification

If you prepared for an earlier batch, several rules are different this time. The key changes are:

  • Registration route: The CGEPT-01/27 and 02/27 notice invites applications through the Staff Selection Commission portal instead of the older Coast Guard application flow.

  • One single Stage I paper: The notice describes a 100-question, 100-mark computer-based exam of one hour. Earlier batches used a 60-question Section I plus a 50-question branch section for Yantriks.

  • New qualifying marks: 40 marks for UR, EWS and OBC, and 35 for SC and ST, out of 100.

  • Tougher physical test: The 1.6 km run now has to be completed in 6 minutes 30 seconds, along with 20 squats, 15 push-ups and 15 bent-knee sit-ups done without a break.

  • Higher fee: Rs. 550 for non-exempt candidates.

  • Yantrik only in 01/27: The 02/27 batch covers Navik (GD), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Hygienist-I, not Yantrik.

Older pages may still show the 110-question, 75-minute Section I plus Section V pattern, so follow the latest official notification.

Unlike Navik (GD) male recruitment, which runs zone-wise, the Yantrik merit list is prepared on an all-India, category-wise basis. With only nine Electronics seats, competition in that branch can be sharp, so a clear margin above the qualifying mark matters.

ICG Yantrik Eligibility

Educational qualification

You need one of these two combinations, with the diploma approved by AICTE:

  • Route 1: Class 10 from a board recognised by COBSE, plus a three- or four-year diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering.

  • Route 2: Class 10 and Class 12 from a COBSE-recognised board, plus a two- or three-year diploma in one of the same fields.

The notice lists accepted diploma streams for each branch, such as Marine Engineering and Production Engineering under Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering under Electrical. Check the full list on the eligibility page before assuming your stream qualifies.

Age limit

For the CGEPT-01/27 batch, Yantrik candidates must be born between 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009. Upper age relaxation applies as follows.

Fee

UR, EWS, OBC

Rs. 550 (non-refundable)

SC/ST

Exempt

The fee could be paid by net banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. For future batches, the application process generally follows these steps:

  1. Read the full notification and confirm your diploma stream and date of birth fit the batch.

  2. Register on the portal named in the notification and fill in personal and educational details exactly as they appear on your marksheets.

  3. Choose the Yantrik branch that matches your diploma and pick an exam city close to your current address.

  4. Upload your photo, signature and documents, then pay the fee and keep the printout.

The notice warns that marks entered for every subject must match the marksheet; a mismatch can cancel your candidature.

ICG Yantrik Selection Process

Stage

What happens

Nature

Stage I

Computer-based objective exam

Qualifying is compulsory; marks decide merit

Stage II

Identity and biometric check, Physical Fitness Test, assessment and adaptability test, document verification, recruitment medical

Qualifying; assessment test marks used only to break ties

Stage III

Aadhaar-based identity check, document verification, pre-enrolment medical and police verification at INS Chilka

Qualifying

Stage IV

Verification of educational documents with boards and universities

Verification

The final merit list is drawn from Stage I marks for candidates who clear Stage II, subject to vacancies in each branch and category.

ICG Yantrik Exam Pattern

Stage I for the CGEPT-01/27 batch is a single computer-based paper:

Feature

Details

Questions

100 multiple-choice questions

Marks

1 mark each, 100 in total

Duration

1 hour

Negative marking

None

Language

Hindi and English

Qualifying marks

UR/EWS/OBC 40; SC/ST 35

What this means for you:

  • Attempt every question: With no negative marking, leaving a question blank only costs you.

  • Plan for 36 seconds a question: Speed matters as much as concepts, so timed practice is essential.

  • Qualifying is not selecting: 40 marks only keeps you in the race; merit within your branch decides the final list.

ICG Yantrik Syllabus Summary

The notice says the detailed syllabus is published on the recruitment portal and does not split the 100 questions by subject. Earlier Yantrik papers had two parts: a Class 10 level general paper and a diploma-level technical paper for your branch. Plan with both in mind.

How to Prepare for the ICG Yantrik Exam

Build the base

  • Revise your diploma core: Spend the first few weeks on the core subjects of your branch, using your diploma notes and standard textbooks.

  • Rebuild Class 10 basics: Maths and science questions are easy marks if formulas and concepts are fresh.

  • Read news daily: Fifteen to twenty minutes on national news and defence updates covers most general knowledge questions.

Practise against the clock

A one-hour paper with 100 questions rewards speed. From the middle of your preparation, take topic tests, then full-length timed papers, and maintain an error log of every mistake and slow question.

Mock tests

The CGEPT-01/27 notification does not mention an official mock test or sample paper, and none is listed on the official portal at the time of writing. Rely on previous papers and timed practice sets instead. For practice in the current one-hour format, you can attempt ICG Yantrik mock tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to decide what to revise next. Pair them with Testkart study notes for quick revision of formulas and technical concepts.

Prepare for Stage II early

Start running and bodyweight training at least two months before Stage II. The 6 minutes 30 seconds run followed straight away by squats, push-ups and sit-ups is harder than it looks if you have not trained the full sequence.

Qualifying Marks and Cut-off

The official benchmark for CGEPT-01/27 is the qualifying mark: 40 out of 100 for UR, EWS and OBC, and 35 for SC and ST. The actual mark needed for selection depends on vacancies in your branch and category, the difficulty of the paper and normalisation across shifts. Treat the qualifying mark as a floor, not a target. The ICG Yantrik cut-off page explains how to set a safe score target.
