ICG Yantrik Eligibility 2027: Age, Diploma and Medical Standards
ICG Yantrik eligibility rests on three things: an engineering diploma in an accepted stream, a date of birth inside the batch window, and the physical and medical standards the Coast Guard sets for technical sailors. For the CGEPT-01/27 batch, Yantrik posts are open only to male Indian citizens, and the age window is linked to the date of birth rather than a single "age as on" date.
This page explains each condition in detail: the two qualification routes, the full list of accepted diploma streams, age limit and relaxation, medical and fitness standards, documents and the common reasons candidates are rejected. If you are checking whether you can apply for the next Indian Coast Guard Yantrik batch, the five-step checklist near the end will help you decide quickly.

Educational Qualification
The Coast Guard accepts two qualification routes for Yantrik. In both, the school boards must be recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE), and the diploma must be approved by AICTE.
Route | School qualification | Diploma |
|---|---|---|
Route 1 | Class 10 | 3 or 4-year diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering |
Route 2 | Class 10 and Class 12 | 2 or 3-year diploma in the same fields (usually lateral entry) |
Marks and percentage
The CGEPT-01/27 notice does not set a minimum percentage for the diploma. It does, however, ask you to enter the marks for every subject exactly as they appear on your marksheet. A mismatch between what you enter and your original marksheet can lead to cancellation of your candidature.
Date of your documents
The notice requires every uploaded document to be issued on or before the closing date of the application. The documents must also remain valid at least up to 31 December 2027. If your original diploma certificate is not ready by Stage II, you must bring a provisional certificate signed by the head of your institution or university.
Can final-year diploma students apply?
The notice does not explicitly allow or bar final-year students. What it does say is that uploaded documents must be dated on or before the closing date, and that diploma marksheets and the passing certificate are checked at the document stages. In practice, this means your diploma result should be declared by the application closing date. If your result is pending, read the notice for that batch closely before applying, because a missing document at Stage II ends your candidature.
What about B.Tech or degree holders?
The notice lists diploma qualifications only. It does not say that a degree can replace the diploma. If you hold a degree, check that you also hold an accepted diploma, and read the official notice carefully before applying.
Accepted Diploma Streams by Branch
Your diploma stream decides which Yantrik branch you can apply for. The notice lists the following accepted streams.
Yantrik branch | Accepted diploma streams |
|---|---|
Electrical | Electrical Engineering; Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Electrical and Electronics (Power System); Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering; Electrical and Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering (Electronics and Power); Electrical Engineering (Industrial Control); Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation and Control); Electrical Power System Engineering |
Mechanical | Mechanical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering (Production); Mechanical Engineering (Automobile); Mechanical Engineering (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning); Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance); Marine Engineering or Marine Engineering and Systems; Production Engineering; Ship Building Engineering |
Electronics | Electronics Engineering; Electronics and Communication Engineering; Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Advanced Electronics and Communication Engineering; Electronic Instrumentation and Control Engineering; Electronics (Fibre Optics) |
If your stream name differs slightly from the list, check the exact wording in the latest notification and on your diploma certificate. Candidates are selected branch-wise, so pick the branch that matches your diploma.
Age Limit and Relaxation
For the CGEPT-01/27 batch, Yantrik candidates must be born between 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009. This works out to roughly 18 to 22 years at the start of training.
Category | Upper age relaxation | Earliest date of birth (calculated) |
|---|---|---|
UR/EWS | None | 1 May 2005 |
OBC | 3 years | 1 May 2002 |
SC/ST | 5 years | 1 May 2000 |
The last column is worked out by applying the relaxation to the upper age limit. The latest date of birth, 1 May 2009, is the same for every category. Confirm the exact dates and whether both are inclusive in the official notification, because they change with every batch.
The notice does not mention age relaxation for ex-servicemen, sportspersons or wards of Coast Guard personnel for this post.
Nationality and Gender
Nationality: Only Indian citizens can apply.
Gender: Yantrik vacancies in CGEPT-01/27 are for male candidates. Female candidates can apply for Navik (GD) in the same notification if they meet its conditions.
Medical Standards
Medical standards are checked at Stage II and again at the pre-enrolment medical in Stage III. The main standards are:
Standard | Requirement |
|---|---|
Height | Minimum 157 cm. Up to 5 cm relaxation for candidates from certain hill and north-eastern regions, and up to 2 cm for Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Minicoy and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as listed in the notice |
Chest | Minimum 77 cm with at least 5 cm expansion |
Weight | Proportionate to height and age as applicable for the Coast Guard |
Vision | 6/24 in the better eye and 6/24 in the worse eye for Yantriks |
Hearing | Must hear a forced whisper at 6 metres with each ear separately |
Dental | Healthy gums and a minimum of 14 dental points |
Tattoos | Permanent tattoos allowed only on the inner forearm or back of the hand, with concessions for tribal communities |
Candidates declared unfit at the pre-enrolment medical can appeal at a designated naval hospital within the time limit in the notice. Get a basic eye and dental check-up done early, because these are the areas where candidates are often surprised.
Physical Fitness Standards
The Physical Fitness Test is part of Stage II and is a strict pass-or-fail check.
Event | Standard (male) |
|---|---|
1.6 km run | Within 6 minutes 30 seconds |
Squats (uthak baithak) | 20 |
Push-ups | 15 |
Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 |
All events are done in continuity without a break. This standard is tougher than in earlier batches, so start training well before the Stage I result.
Other Conditions to Know
One post only: You may apply for only one post. If you submit more than one application, only the latest is considered and the fee for the others is not refunded.
Serving employees: Candidates working in government or public sector jobs need a service certificate or no objection certificate at the document stages.
Police verification: A police verification report dated after the application closing date is required at Stage III. An adverse or missing report makes you ineligible for enrolment.
Marriage during training: Trainees are not allowed to marry during training.
Identity consistency: Changes to name, date of birth or appearance made in the last two years are scrutinised at Stage III and may need supporting documents.
Who Is Not Eligible
Female candidates for Yantrik: In this batch, Yantrik posts are for men only.
Diploma in a stream not on the list: For example, Civil, Computer Science or Chemical Engineering diplomas do not appear among the accepted Yantrik streams.
Diploma not approved by AICTE: Unapproved institutes or programmes do not meet the condition.
Date of birth outside the window: Even one day outside the range, after any relaxation, means rejection.
ITI-only candidates: An ITI certificate alone is not one of the listed Yantrik qualifications.
Common Eligibility Scenarios
