ISRO Technician B Fitter 2026: Eligibility Guide

ISRO Technician B Fitter eligibility is simple on paper: a Class 10 pass, an ITI certificate in the Fitter trade, and an age between 18 and 35 years on the notification's reference date. The detail that trips candidates up is in the fine print, such as which certificate counts, which age relaxation applies, and which category the posts are reserved for. This guide reads those rules from the latest opening, the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, Advertisement No. IPRC/RMT/2026/01 dated 12 September 2026.

The online application window for this cycle has closed, so use this page to confirm that your documents and category match, and as a checklist for the next ISRO Fitter notification. Rules can change between centres and years, so always read the current advertisement before applying.

Educational Qualification

The notification asks for two things together: a Class 10 pass and an ITI in the Fitter trade. Both must come from a recognised State Board or university. A Class 12 pass does not replace the ITI, and the ITI does not replace Class 10.

NTC and NAC explained

The ITI certificate must be an NTC or an NAC issued by NCVT, the National Council for Vocational Training.

  • NTC (National Trade Certificate): Awarded after you pass the All India Trade Test at the end of your ITI course in the trade.

  • NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate): Awarded after you complete apprenticeship training in the trade and clear the apprenticeship trade test.

Either certificate is accepted. If you hold both, enter the details of the one you will rely on and keep the other ready.

Exact trade, no equivalents

The notification says that those who hold the exact qualification should apply and that no equivalent course will be considered. In practice, this means the following.

  • Other ITI trades do not count: A certificate in Machinist, Turner, Welder, Mechanic Motor Vehicle or any trade other than Fitter is not valid for this post, although those trades have their own posts in the same advertisement.

  • A diploma does not count: A diploma in mechanical engineering is not listed as an alternative for Technician B. Diploma holders should look at the Technical Assistant posts, which have a separate qualification.

  • Check the issuing body: Some websites write "NCVT/SCVT". The notification names NCVT only, so follow the notification and not a summary.

When you must hold the qualification

You must possess the prescribed qualification on the closing date of the online application, which was 5 October 2026 for this cycle. A candidate still waiting for the final ITI result on that date did not meet the rule. For the next cycle, read the closing date in the new advertisement and compare it with your result date.

Percentage is not a condition, but marks still matter

The notification does not set a minimum percentage for Fitter, unlike the first-class requirement for Technical Assistant. However, your academic marks in the notified qualification are used as the tie-breaker if two candidates have the same written test score. Keep your Class 10 and ITI marksheets safe and make sure the marks you enter match them.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 35 years as on 5 October 2026. The age is counted on that fixed date and not on the date of the written test.

Date-of-birth window

The table below converts the age limit into birth dates. These dates are our calculation from the notification and are not printed in it, so confirm with the advertisement if you are close to a limit.

Category

EWS and others without relaxation

OBC (with 3 years relaxation)

38 years

5 October 1988

The minimum age is 18 years, so every candidate must have been born on or before 5 October 2008.

Age relaxation

The notification gives 5 years to SC and ST candidates and 3 years to OBC candidates, but only where a post is reserved for that category. Other groups get relaxation as per Government of India orders.

Category and Reservation

Eligibility for this post depends on the category as well as the certificate. The four Fitter vacancies are split as follows.

Category

Fitter posts

OBC

3

EWS

1

Unreserved

None listed

SC and ST

None listed

One of the four posts is reserved for ex-servicemen. The notification also says that EWS candidates are selected on standards similar to those of unreserved candidates.

Because no unreserved post is listed for Fitter, candidates outside OBC and EWS should read the vacancy table carefully before paying the fee. The notification does not discuss this case in detail. If you are unsure, ask IPRC through the email address given in the advertisement before you apply.

Certificates for reserved categories

  • OBC: Upload the caste or community certificate, and the income and asset certificate where required, as listed in the advertisement.

  • EWS: The certificate must be issued by the competent authority in the format prescribed by the Department of Personnel and Training in its office memorandum dated 31 January 2019.

  • Ex-servicemen: Upload your discharge certificate.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.

  • One application per post: If you apply for more than one post, submit a separate application and pay a separate fee for each.

  • Working email ID: Applications without a proper email ID are treated as invalid, because all communication goes by email.

  • No Objection Certificate: If you work for the Central or State Government, a public sector undertaking or a similar body, you must produce an NOC from your employer at the skill test. Apply only with your employer's knowledge and permission.

  • Functional requirements for PwBD: The notification lists the functions needed for the Fitter post, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, hearing, communication, pulling and pushing and lifting.

  • Posting: You may be posted at IPRC first, but you are liable to be posted at any ISRO centre or unit in India.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates join once a medical authority finds them fit.

Who Is Not Eligible

An application can be rejected at any stage, even after you appear for a test. These are the most common reasons.

  • Wrong or missing trade certificate: A certificate in another ITI trade, an incomplete course, or a state certificate that is not an NTC or NAC from NCVT.

  • Result not declared by the reference date: The qualification was not held on 5 October 2026.

  • Outside the age window: Born after 5 October 2008 or before the limit for your category, with no valid relaxation.

  • Category mismatch: Claiming a category without the right certificate, or using an EWS certificate in the wrong format.

  • Details that do not match documents: The notification says any mismatch found later at any stage will reject the candidature.

  • Canvassing: Canvassing in any form is a disqualification.

Eligibility Is Only the First Filter

The notification states that the prescribed qualifications are the minimum requirement and do not automatically make you eligible for selection. Being eligible gets you the chance to sit the written test. After that, ranking works as follows.

  • Written test: 80 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes, with 1 mark for each correct answer and 0.33 deducted for each wrong answer. Passing marks are 32 for UR and EWS candidates and 24 for reserved categories.

  • Skill test: A qualifying go or no-go test for 100 marks. Qualified candidates are shortlisted in a 1:5 ratio, with at least 10 per post.

  • Final selection: Based only on written test marks. Ties are broken by academic marks in the notified qualification.

You can read the full structure on our ISRO Technician B Fitter exam pattern page, and see how selected candidates have scored on the ISRO Technician B Fitter cut off page.

Fee and Documents

The application fee for Technician B posts was Rs. 500, paid online. Women, SC, ST, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates get a full refund if they appear in the written test, and others get Rs. 400 back after bank charges. For this cycle, you needed to upload these documents.

  • Education: Class 10 certificate and marksheet, Class 12 marksheet if applicable, and the ITI certificate and marksheets.

  • Identity: Aadhaar card, or a PAN card, voter ID or driving licence if you do not have Aadhaar.

  • Category: Caste, community, income and asset certificate, EWS certificate, disability certificate or discharge certificate, as applicable.

  • Refund: The front page of your bank passbook.

You must bring the originals of every uploaded document to the skill test. Those who cannot produce them are not allowed to take the skill test. You can verify every rule in the official IPRC advertisement.

Other ISRO Centres

IPRC is not the only ISRO unit that hires Fitters. Other centres have advertised the same trade in earlier years, and each one publishes its own notification. The qualification pattern of Class 10 plus an ITI, NTC or NAC in the Fitter trade has been consistent, but the age limit, fee, reservation, vacancies and test format can differ. A rule that applied at one centre may not apply at another, so treat every advertisement as a fresh set of rules.

Check your ITI certificate, Class 10 marksheet and category certificate against the points above, and keep the originals ready for the skill test. To strengthen your chances of ranking high on the written test, practise with ISRO Technician B Fitter online tests on Testkart, which let you attempt full-length papers in the same time limit and review your accuracy by section.
