ISRO Technician Eligibility Criteria 2026

ISRO Technician eligibility rests on three things: a Class 10 pass, an ITI certificate in the notified trade, and an age between 18 and 35 years on the cut-off date. Technician-B posts are advertised separately by each ISRO centre, so the trade, vacancies, dates and age cut-off change with every notification.

This page uses the official ISTRAC Advertisement No. ISTRAC:02:2026 (27 June 2026) for the detailed rules, because it states them in full. Where the ISRO Propulsion Complex advertisement IPRC/RMT/2026/01 is mentioned, the details come from published reports and should be checked in the official notice.

Educational Qualification

For Technician-B, you need to have passed SSLC, SSC or Matriculation (Class 10) and also hold an ITI, NTC or NAC certificate in the trade named in the advertisement. The certificate must come from NCVT, the National Council for Vocational Training.

  • NTC and NAC: NTC is the National Trade Certificate you receive after passing the ITI all-India trade test. NAC is the National Apprenticeship Certificate you receive after completing an apprenticeship. The notification accepts ITI, NTC or NAC in the trade.

  • Result must be declared: Only candidates who have already passed the relevant examinations can apply. Students awaiting their final result should not apply.

  • Qualification date: Your qualification must be in hand on the cut-off date, which is the last date for receipt of online applications. If it is not, your candidature can be cancelled at any stage, before or after the written test or skill test.

  • Higher qualification gives no edge: A candidate with a higher qualification can be called, but is treated the same as other qualified candidates and is offered only the advertised post.

  • Course duration: Some earlier ISRO notices specified a minimum two-year ITI course for certain trades and did not accept one-year courses. Read the clause for your trade in the current advertisement.

Accepted ITI Trades

The trade you hold must match the post. A candidate with a different trade cannot apply, even if the trade looks similar. The trades below come from recent advertisements.

Required ITI/NTC/NAC trade

ISTRAC (ISTRAC:02:2026)

Technician-B (Electronics Mechanic)

Technician-B (Turner, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Electrician)

The same trade as the post, with NTC or NAC from NCVT

Other centres, such as the ISRO Satellite Centre, the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, SDSC SHAR and the National Remote Sensing Centre, have advertised Technician-B in trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in past years. Always match your certificate to the trade in the live advertisement.

Technician-B Compared with Other ISRO Centre Posts

Centres often advertise several posts together. Candidates sometimes apply for the wrong one, so compare the requirements before you choose. The table below uses the same ISTRAC advertisement.

Post

Qualification

Pay level

Technician-B

SSLC/SSC/Matriculation plus ITI/NTC/NAC in the notified trade from NCVT

Level 3 (Rs. 21,700)

Level 7 (Rs. 44,900)

Cook-A

SSLC/SSC plus 5 years of experience as a cook in an established hotel or canteen

Level 2 (Rs. 19,900)

If you hold an ITI certificate but no diploma, Technician-B is the post for you. If you hold a first-class diploma, check the Technical Assistant requirements. Experience certificates issued by individuals are not accepted for Cook-A.

Age Limit

The age limit for Technician-B is 18 to 35 years. Your age is counted on the cut-off date stated in the advertisement. For ISTRAC:02:2026 that date was 20 July 2026, which, on the usual reading of the rule, means a general category candidate should have been born between 21 July 1990 and 20 July 2008. This is our calculation, not a figure printed in the notice, so confirm your date of birth against the advertisement.

The IPRC advertisement is reported to count age as on 5 October 2026 with the same 18 to 35 range for Technician-B. Because the cut-off date differs by notification, calculate your age separately for each centre you apply to.

Age Relaxation

Relaxation in the upper age limit is available only where the post is reserved for that category.

Category

Upper age relaxation

SC and ST

5 years

OBC

3 years

EWS

No relaxation

Ex-servicemen, PwBD, meritorious sportspersons, widows, divorced women and women judicially separated and not remarried, and departmental candidates

As per Government of India orders

An important point: where a vacancy is not reserved for SC, ST, OBC or EWS, those candidates apply on par with unreserved candidates, and no relaxation is available against unreserved vacancies. In the ISTRAC advertisement, for example, the Carpenter post was reserved for OBC, while the Electronics Mechanic posts were split among unreserved, OBC and EWS.

Candidates seeking age relaxation must produce the relevant certificate issued by the competent authority.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.

  • Nature of posts: The posts are temporary but likely to continue. The vacancy numbers are provisional and may change, and ISRO can decide not to fill all or any of the posts.

  • Posting: Appointees can be posted to any ISRO or Department of Space centre in India.

  • Shift work: Appointees may have to work in round-the-clock shifts.

  • Pension: Appointees are governed by the National Pension System or the Unified Pension Scheme, as stated in the advertisement.

  • Language: The written test can be taken in Hindi or English.

  • Canvassing: Any canvassing for the job results in disqualification.

Physical Standards

The advertisement lists the physical abilities needed for Technician-B work. These are: sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, crawling, pulling and pushing, kneeling and crouching, manipulation by fingers, reading and writing, seeing, hearing and oral communication.

The notification does not give a height or chest measurement for Technician-B. Candidates with a benchmark disability should read the notice to see which posts suit their category, since the ability list differs between posts and disability types.

Reservation, EWS and PwBD

Reservation applies only where the advertisement marks a post for a category. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and ex-servicemen can apply for posts that are not reserved for them, but they are then considered on general merit.

  • EWS: The family's gross annual income must be below Rs. 8 lakh for the financial year before the application year, and the family must not own the assets listed in the notice. The income and asset certificate for 2025-26, valid for 2026-27, must be produced at the skill test.

  • PwBD: Only persons with at least 40 percent of the relevant disability qualify for reservation and relaxation. The disability certificate must come from a medical board of at least three members, as described in the notice.

  • Quota adjustment: PwBD and ex-servicemen appointees are adjusted against the vacancies of their respective categories.

No Objection Certificate for Employed Candidates

Candidates working in a Central or State Government department, a public sector undertaking or an autonomous body must submit a No Objection Certificate from the employer. It is needed at the skill test or when called for. A candidate who cannot produce the original NOC is not allowed to appear in the skill test, and travelling allowance is not paid.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Wrong or missing trade: Holding an ITI in a trade not listed for the post.

  • Result awaited: Appearing in the final ITI examination without a declared result on the cut-off date.

  • Over-age: Being above 35 years without a valid relaxation category for a reserved post.

  • Non-Indian nationals.

  • Incomplete applications: Applications without a clear photograph, signature or required certificates are rejected.

  • Duplicate applications: Where a candidate submits more than one, only the application for which the fee was received within the last date is considered.

Application Fee and Documents

Under ISTRAC:02:2026, every candidate first paid a processing fee of Rs. 500 for Technician-B. This included a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 100. The processing fee is refunded only to candidates who appear in the written test: in full for women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen, and Rs. 400 for all others. Fees were paid online through Bharatkosh by net banking, UPI or domestic debit card.

You need a recent colour photograph (not older than six months) and a signature, each in JPG or JPEG format of 50 KB to 100 KB, along with your qualification and category certificates. See the ISRO Technician overview for the application steps.
