JEE Advanced Cut Off 2026: Category-wise Qualifying Marks

The JEE Advanced cut off is the minimum score you need to get a rank in the exam. It works at two levels: a minimum in each subject (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and a minimum aggregate across all three. Miss either one and you do not appear in the rank list, no matter how strong your total is.

This page gives you the official JEE Advanced 2026 qualifying marks released by IIT Roorkee, the category-wise cut-off for the last five years, what moves these numbers, and how to turn them into a sensible target for JEE Advanced 2027. Treat every figure here as a benchmark from past papers, not a promise of what next year's cut-off will be.

Three Cut-Offs Students Often Mix Up

Search results use "JEE Advanced cut off" for three different things. Knowing which one you are looking at saves a lot of confusion.

JEE Advanced Cut Off 2026: Official Qualifying Marks

JEE Advanced 2026 was held on 17 May 2026 and results were declared on 1 June 2026. The paper carried 360 marks: two papers of 180 marks each, with 120 marks per subject across both papers. The minimum marks for inclusion in each rank list were:

What the Trend Tells You

  • The cut-off swings, it does not climb steadily: the CRL aggregate has moved between 55 and 109 in five years. A tougher paper pulls it down; a more scoring paper pushes it up.

  • Reserved lists follow a fixed ratio: in every year shown, the OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS threshold was about 90% of the CRL percentage, and the SC, ST and PwD threshold was 50% of it.

  • Subject minimums are low but real: they rarely stop a well-prepared student, but a single neglected subject can keep an otherwise good total out of the rank list.

What Affects the JEE Advanced Cut Off

  • Paper difficulty: the biggest factor. When most candidates find a paper hard, as in 2022, the qualifying marks come down sharply.

  • Question format: JEE Advanced changes its mix of single-correct, multiple-correct, numerical and matching questions each year. Sections with negative marking or partial marking change how much students can safely score.

  • Number of candidates and seats: the rank lists need enough candidates to fill IIT seats through JoSAA, so the thresholds are set with the overall pool in mind.

  • Overall performance of the cohort: the minimums are fixed after evaluation, based on how candidates actually scored.

Qualifying Is Not the Same as Getting an IIT Seat

A JEE Advanced rank makes you eligible for JoSAA counselling. To be admitted to an IIT, you also need at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. B.Arch aspirants must also clear the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) after the result.

Your realistic target, therefore, is the closing rank of the institutes and branches you want, not the qualifying mark. Check the JEE Advanced exam pattern to see how marks are spread across question types before you set a number.

How to Set Your Target Score for JEE Advanced 2027

  1. Start from the recent range: CRL qualifying marks of 74 to 109 out of 360 over 2023 to 2026 show the floor. Plan for a clear margin above the top of that range, not just above last year's figure.

  2. Protect every subject: treat a low score in any one subject as a warning sign in your mocks, even when your total looks fine.

  3. Use paired mock tests: take Paper 1 and Paper 2 on the same day, add the scores, and compare the total with the table above. That is the only fair comparison.

  4. Track the trend, not one score: judge readiness by your average across the last five or six full mocks.
