JIPMER Nursing Officer Eligibility: Age and Qualification Guide

JIPMER Nursing Officer eligibility depends on your nursing qualification, council registration, experience (for GNM holders) and age on the closing date of applications. JIPMER fills these Group B posts through the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) conducted by AIIMS New Delhi, and you must meet the conditions in JIPMER's advertisement.

The rules below come from JIPMER's NORCET-9 advertisement (Notice No. 268/2025 dated 22 July 2025). JIPMER's later notices show a NORCET-10 cycle in 2026, and we could not open its advertisement, so check the current notice for any change in age limit, fee or vacancies before you apply.

The advertisement allows two routes. You need to meet one of them, and both require nurse and midwife registration.

Route one: degree

  • Degree: B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing or B.Sc Nursing from an institute or university recognised by the Indian Nursing Council or a State Nursing Council.

  • Post-Basic option: B.Sc (Post-Certificate) or Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing from a recognised institute or university is also accepted.

  • Registration: Registered as a Nurse and Midwife with a State or Indian Nursing Council.

Route two: diploma with experience

  • Diploma: General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institute, board or council.

  • Registration: Registered as a Nurse and Midwife with a State or Indian Nursing Council.

  • Experience: Two years in a hospital of at least 50 beds, gained after acquiring the educational qualification.

The notice states that the two years of experience are valid only if gained after obtaining the essential qualification. That means after completing the residency period of the course, the declaration of result and registration with the nursing council. Qualification and experience must be complete on or before the last date of online application, and a degree candidate must have finished the internship by then.

Age limit and relaxation

The NORCET-9 notice sets the age limit at 18 to 35 years for JIPMER Puducherry and JIPMER Yanam. Age is counted on the last date of closing of the application form, so check your date of birth against that date and not against the exam date.

For JIPMER, the relaxation for employees applies only to personnel serving in the Central Government who have completed three years of regular service. SC, ST and OBC candidates who apply against unreserved vacancies do not get the age relaxation or cut-off relaxation of their category. Reserved category candidates who become eligible through age relaxation are considered only for reserved seats of their own category.

Other conditions

  • No Objection Certificate: Candidates in government, semi-government, PSU or autonomous body service, or in any government funded institution, must produce an NOC from the employer. Contractual employees of these bodies must also produce it, and the NOC is checked at document verification.

  • Category certificates: OBC candidates need a valid non-creamy layer certificate in the central format for the year of the advertisement. EWS candidates need an income and assets certificate in the prescribed format. SC, ST and PwBD candidates need their respective certificates.

  • Disability: PwBD reservation is for candidates with at least 40 percent benchmark disability in the categories the institute has identified for the post. A medical board constituted by the JIPMER Director evaluates suitability.

  • Provisional entry: Applications are accepted provisionally because eligibility is not scrutinised at the time of the exam. Ineligibility found at any stage cancels the candidature.

  • Correct information: Wrong information in the application can cancel the candidature at any stage, and category cannot be changed after the fee is paid.

Who is not eligible

  • GNM holders without the experience: Less than two years of post-qualification experience in a hospital of at least 50 beds does not meet route two.

  • Experience gained too early: Experience counted before the result and registration does not count.

  • Unregistered candidates: Nurse and Midwife registration is an essential requirement on both routes.

  • Over the age limit: Age is counted on the closing date, and a candidate over the limit after relaxation is not eligible.

  • Missing NOC or category certificate: The candidature is cancelled if the employer NOC or a valid category certificate cannot be produced when asked.

Fee and documents

The NORCET-9 fee was Rs. 3,000 for General and OBC candidates and Rs. 2,400 for SC, ST and EWS candidates, with persons with disabilities exempted. Keep these ready for document verification: registration slip, admit card, proof of date of birth, category or income and assets certificate, disability certificate if applicable, qualification certificates, nursing council registration, experience certificate and NOC if employed. Official notices are on the JIPMER announcement page.
