JKSSB JE Syllabus 2026: Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Topics

The JKSSB JE syllabus covers only technical subjects from your engineering branch. The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) sets one objective paper for Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Mechanical) and, when advertised, Junior Engineer (Electrical), and each paper has carried 120 marks spread across fixed subject weightages.

For the 2026 cycle, Advertisement Notification No. 11 of 2026 (Civil) states that the syllabus will be notified separately on the JKSSB website. This page therefore uses the subject-wise syllabus JKSSB notified for its previous Junior Engineer recruitment, with marks per subject, the topics to cover under each, and a plan for where to start. Use it as your working checklist, and compare it with the new syllabus notice as soon as JKSSB releases it.

Question count, marks and time follow the previous JE cycle; the 2026 notifications confirm the OMR format, English medium and one-fourth negative marking but not the paper size. For marking rules and timing strategy, see the JKSSB JE exam pattern guide.

Key Points to Know Before You Start

  • No general section: Recent JKSSB JE papers have been entirely technical. There has been no separate general knowledge, reasoning or English section, so all 120 marks come from your branch.

  • Weightage is fixed by subject: JKSSB lists marks against each subject, which lets you plan study hours in proportion to marks.

  • 2026 syllabus pending: The Civil notification says the syllabus will be notified separately. Watch for a syllabus notice on the official website before your final revision phase.

  • Diploma-level depth: The posts are open to diploma holders, so most questions test core concepts, standard formulas and code provisions rather than advanced theory.

  • Beware of wrong syllabus files: Junior Engineer syllabi from other state boards circulate online under similar titles and include sections such as state history or a regional language. They do not apply to JKSSB.

How Civil Marks Are Distributed

Four subjects carry 15 marks each: mechanics and structural analysis, RCC, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, and construction planning and management. Together they make up half the paper. The other six subjects carry 10 marks each and are shorter, so they suit quick revision blocks once the core is in place.

JKSSB JE Mechanical Syllabus

The Mechanical paper applies to the 127 Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts in the Public Works (R&B) Department advertised under Notification No. 10 of 2026. The weightage below is from the earlier JKSSB Mechanical syllabus and should be confirmed against the 2026 syllabus notice.

How Mechanical Marks Are Distributed

Three 20-mark subjects (thermal engineering and RAC, material science and production, and industrial management and CAD/CAM) carry exactly half the paper. Industrial management is often neglected by diploma students, yet it is largely theory and can be covered quickly with good notes.

JKSSB JE Electrical Syllabus

No Electrical post is advertised in the 2026 cycle so far. The syllabus below is the one JKSSB notified in March 2025 for Junior Engineer (Electrical) posts in the Power Development Department under Advertisement No. 02 of 2025. It is the best guide if a fresh Electrical notification follows.

High-Weight Subjects and Where to Start

Discipline

Start With

Cover Next

Use for Quick Revision

Civil

RCC, mechanics and structural analysis

Fluid mechanics, construction planning and management

Surveying, highway, railway, irrigation, environmental subjects

Mechanical

Thermal engineering and RAC, production engineering

Industrial management and CAD/CAM, strength of materials

Metrology and automobile, theory of machines

Electrical

Electrical machines, power systems

Circuits, measurements

Control systems, digital electronics, power electronics

Starting with the heavier subjects builds the concepts that lighter subjects reuse. For example, strength of materials supports RCC and soil questions in Civil, and thermodynamics supports refrigeration and IC engine questions in Mechanical.

Overlap Between Subjects

Several subjects in the JKSSB JE syllabus share the same concepts. Studying them together saves time and helps you answer mixed questions faster.

Shared Area

Where It Appears

How to Plan

Stress, strain and bending

Civil: mechanics and structural analysis, RCC. Mechanical: strength of materials, machine design

Master shear force and bending moment diagrams first; design questions reuse them

Fluid properties and flow equations

Civil: fluid mechanics, irrigation, water supply. Mechanical: fluid mechanics and machinery

Learn continuity, Bernoulli and pipe-flow losses once, then apply them to canals, pumps and turbines

Soil and foundations

Civil: soil mechanics, RCC footings, highway subgrade

Link bearing capacity and CBR while revising foundations and pavements

Planning and estimation

Civil: construction planning and management. Mechanical: industrial management

Network methods such as CPM and PERT appear in both; revise them as one topic

Thermodynamics

Mechanical: thermal engineering, RAC, IC engines

Revise cycles and property tables together before moving to refrigeration

Machines and power

Electrical: machines, power systems, power electronics and drives

Study motor characteristics before speed control and protection

When you create your study timetable, group overlapping topics in the same week. You will revise the base concept once and see it from two angles, which improves recall in the exam hall.

How to Cover the JKSSB JE Syllabus

A four-phase plan works for most candidates who have three to five months before the exam.

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, core subjects: Study the 15 to 25-mark subjects from your diploma or degree notes. Write a one-page formula and code-value sheet for each.

  2. Weeks 7 to 10, remaining subjects: Cover the 10-mark subjects. From this phase, take a 20 to 30-question topic test after finishing each subject.

  3. Weeks 11 to 14, mixed practice: Solve previous year papers and sectional tests that mix subjects, the way the real paper does. Note every question you got wrong in an error log.

  4. Final four weeks, full-length tests: Take two full 120-question tests a week in a strict two-hour window, analyse them the same day, and revise from your error log and formula sheets.

Reference Material Worth Using

  • Your diploma or degree textbooks: The syllabus maps closely to standard three-year diploma courses, so your own course books remain the most reliable base.

  • Indian Standard codes (Civil): Learn key values from IS 456 for RCC and the IRC guidelines used in highway design, since code-based questions are short and scoring.

  • Steam tables and refrigerant charts (Mechanical): Practise reading them quickly, as thermal numericals depend on it.

  • Previous year question papers: They show which topics repeat and how deep JKSSB goes within each subject.

  • The official syllabus notice: Download the 2026 syllabus from the official website as soon as it is notified and mark any topic that differs from this page.
