JSSC CGL Eligibility: Qualification, Age Limit and Relaxation
JSSC CGL eligibility is simple at its core: you need a graduate degree and must fall inside the notified age range. The details that trip candidates up are the age reference date, category-wise age relaxation and Jharkhand domicile conditions. This page explains each one using the last completed cycle (JGGLCCE-2023) as the reference.
Eligibility is fixed by the notification of each cycle, and we could not verify every point from an official document. Where sources disagree, we say so.
Table of Contents
Eligibility at a Glance
Particular | Details (last cycle, as reported) |
|---|---|
Qualification | Graduate degree or equivalent from a recognised university, in any discipline |
Minimum age | 21 years |
Maximum age | 35 years for unreserved male candidates, with higher limits for other categories |
Age reference date | 1 August 2023 |
Nationality | Indian citizen |
Domicile | Not compulsory for applying, but it affects reservation benefits |
Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. There is no restriction on the discipline for the general graduate-level posts. Arts, science, commerce, engineering and other graduates can all apply.
Degree must be complete: the notification usually states the date by which the result must be available. Candidates awaiting results are generally not eligible, so check the deadline.
Recognition matters: a degree from a body not recognised by the relevant authority can lead to rejection at document verification.
Language knowledge: the written exam includes Hindi, English and a regional or tribal language, so you should be comfortable in these.
Age Limit and Relaxation
Reports for the last cycle give an age range of 21 to 35 years as on 1 August 2023. The upper age was reported to be relaxed for reserved categories and women, as below. Different sources show slightly different splits, so treat the table as indicative and confirm it in the notification.
Category | Upper age limit (as reported) |
|---|---|
Unreserved, male | 35 years |
BC and OBC, male | 37 years |
Unreserved and BC/OBC, female | 38 years |
SC and ST | 40 years |
Additional relaxation for persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen or existing government employees follows state rules and the notification. Use the age reference date of the cycle you are applying for, because the same birth date can be inside the limit in one cycle and outside it in another.
Domicile and Reservation
Reservation benefits and fee concessions in Jharkhand recruitments normally apply to candidates with valid Jharkhand domicile, as in other JSSC advertisements. Candidates from outside the state may be treated as unreserved. Keep your domicile and category certificates ready, because they are checked during document verification.
Who May Not Be Eligible
Below the minimum age or above the maximum age on the reference date.
Degree not complete by the stated deadline.
Category claim without a valid certificate in the required format.
Wrong information in the application form, which can lead to cancellation at any stage.
What to Check Before You Apply
Read the age reference date and compute your age on that date.
Confirm the last date by which your degree result must be available.
Check how your category and domicile are defined in the notification.
