JSSC CGL Syllabus: Paper-Wise Topics

The JSSC CGL syllabus covers three papers: Hindi and English, a regional or tribal language, and a broad General Knowledge paper that includes Jharkhand-specific topics and computer knowledge. This guide breaks each paper into topics you can tick off, based on the structure used in the last completed cycle (JGGLCCE-2023, exam held in September 2024).

The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission names the papers and subject areas in its notification, but we could not confirm a detailed topic-wise syllabus from an official document. The topic lists below are therefore working checklists built from the notified subjects and from the kind of questions seen in the exam. Use them as a guide, and confirm against the official JSSC website.

Paper 1: Hindi and English

This paper tests language skills and works as a qualifying paper. It is one of the easier places to score, so do not leave it to the last week.

Hindi

  • Grammar: sandhi, samas, karak, vachan, ling, kaal and sentence structure.

  • Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and proverbs.

  • Correct usage: spotting errors and choosing the right word or form.

English

  • Error spotting and sentence improvement: subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles, prepositions.

  • Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution.

  • Transformation: active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech.

  • Reading: comprehension, fill in the blanks, sentence completion and rearrangement.

Paper 2: Regional and Tribal Language

Candidates choose one language. The options reported for the last cycle include Santhali, Mundari, Ho, Khadia, Kurukh, Kurmali, Khortha, Nagpuri, Panchpargania, Urdu, Odia and Bangla. Confirm the current list in the notification.

  • Grammar and usage: parts of speech, sentence formation and common errors in your chosen language.

  • Vocabulary: word meanings, opposites and commonly used expressions.

  • Comprehension: reading passages and answering questions on meaning.

With 100 questions and 300 marks, this paper has real weight. Pick the language you read and write most comfortably, not the one that sounds easiest.
