KVS PGT Cut-Off 2026: Competition and Target Score

The KVS PGT cut-off works at three points in the current cycle under Recruitment Notification 01/2025. Tier 1 shortlists candidates for Tier 2 in the ratio of 1:10 to vacancies, Tier 2 shortlists candidates for the interview in the ratio of 1:3, and the final merit list combines Tier 2 and interview marks in an 85:15 ratio. Each cut-off is set separately for every subject and category.

As of 20 October 2026, CBSE has not published category-wise cut-off marks for any stage of this cycle. It has said that marksheets for posts with an interview will be released within 15 days of the final result. What it has published is how many candidates registered, appeared and were shortlisted for each post, which is the most reliable official guide to competition right now. Cut-offs change every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants, so treat any figure as a benchmark only.

Candidate counts are the totals of the EWS, OBC, SC, ST and UR columns in CBSE's lists dated 24 March 2026; PwBD and ex-servicemen columns are left out because they overlap with these categories. Vacancies are the tentative KVS figures as revised on 10 December 2025 plus the NVS figures. The last column is Testkart's own calculation, not an official figure. In every subject, the Tier 2 shortlist is close to 10 times the vacancies, which matches the 1:10 rule.

What affects the KVS PGT cut-off

  • Vacancies in your subject: More posts mean a longer shortlist and usually a lower cut-off.

  • Number of candidates: Among subjects with more than 100 posts, Commerce, Mathematics and Biology drew the most candidates per vacancy in this cycle.

  • Paper difficulty: A harder Tier 2 paper pulls scores and cut-offs down for everyone.

  • Category: Shortlisting is category-wise, so cut-offs differ between UR, EWS, OBC, SC and ST.

  • Negative marking: Deductions in both tiers keep cut-offs lower than raw attempt counts suggest.

How to set your target

  • Tier 1: Aim to land comfortably inside the 1:10 shortlist for your subject and category, not at the edge. In subjects with more than 100 posts, the shortlist in this cycle ranged from about 7% of those who appeared (Commerce) to about 43% (Computer Science), by Testkart's calculation from CBSE's counts.

  • Tier 2: This score carries 85% of your final merit, so aim as high as you can, especially in the descriptive part worth 40 marks.

  • Mock benchmarks: Track your accuracy, attempts and time per section across mocks, and aim to raise your average steadily rather than chase one high score. Accurate attempts matter more than attempting every question.
